if you like love stage, you're gonna love this

this review is written as of vol.3!! i have NOT read vol.4 yet
i'm also reading renta's licensed translation of the series, which i highly recommend ;3;

triggers/warnings (from most to least relevant)
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
general warnings:
-depictions of sex (though the scenes are short for my tastes /)>_>)
-mentions/brief depictions of S/M play
-outdoor sex (attempted and graphic depictions)
-humorous violence (in like, it's just really exaggerated how yoshifumi bullies ichito lol)

volume specific warnings:
-vol 1: depictions of bullying (not by yoshifumi), super mild violence
-vol 2: attempted sexual assault
-vol 3: implied violence, mild depictions of injuries, neglect/unhealthy family dynamics

and with that outta the way, a review~! \o/

like the tin says: if you like love stage, you're gonna love this—i certainly do!! some of the parallels are super obvious bc someone in the celebrity world is a manga artist. however, i also find that the art style is kinda similar to zaou taishi's (artist of love stage). the chibis are especially similar in style and the way they're used throughout the series.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
honestly, i venture to say i may like this better than love stage bc there's always consent between yoshifumi and ichito. yoshifumi never does anything he doesn't want, and ichito never forces him to even if he complains about it. they talk about their limits and desires in their sexual activities, and both of them educate themselves towards pleasing their partner. the attempted assault in vol.2 is not bc of something ichito does—another character attempts it, and yoshifumi tries to stop it from going further. even ozaki and akane (the secondary couple) are completely consensual in their sex life. like f'real, even if a lot of the story is shits and giggles, it is so goddamn refreshing how everything is consensual between the couple(s) of this series, and i respect tf outta sensei for doing that.

the pacing and humour are what you expect of a yaoi manga, but i find it quite enjoyable. especially in the first two volumes, each chapter is pretty contained—it isn't until vol.3 that there's an overarching plot in throughout the whole volume (vol.2 does have a plot, but it doesn't dominate the entire volume like vol.3 does). it's pretty easy to follow compositionally, even if the pages seem a little full with panels sometimes. the art style is pretty clean and isn't super exaggerated, and it actually kinda reminds me of modern shoujo~! also, i absolutely adore nekono-sensei's chibis oh my goodness /)w(\

if you're looking for something with a lot of depth or plot, i wouldn't recommend this (as of vol.3 at least). but!! if you want something funny to follow, this is a pretty awesome read (-u-)b
