this is the first longest manga series I read, I enjoy it other than it had lots of flitters. I'm a big fan of the twins, wish they were the main. They changed the biggest out of the whole series and wished that the after story showed more about them. I wish that Haruhi had some emotions, or being clumsy or at least strong or at least funny. She boring and her backstory is plain, she just there. Tama is a idoit and his story sad but he still annoying. Honey and Morri are the second greatest pair, who cute together.
Those who read this should read these: BxB Brothers, Full House Kiss, Gokuraku Seishun Hockey Club, Hana Yori Dango, Perfect Girl Evolution, Skip Beat
This is a good series, but not because it is particularly clever or creative. What makes it good is the characterization, All of the characters are unique enough that it makes it interesting to read, however the real show stealer is Haruhi herself. It's like a peculiar case of contrast that the main protagonist is the least animated character whereas the secondary characters are all over the top, but it just seems to work. Honestly i could see the characters working in almost any setting, as all you need is to have one very uninspired and snarky, but loveable lead being forced to activity by her slightly insane cohabitants. And it would probably be just as enjoyable. The only thing that keeps it from really being a perfectly enjoyable read is the ending felt like it could have continued, but doesn't. Its a perfectly acceptable ending, but i guess leaving them wanting more is better than letting them feel tired and worn out with a story.
The very first manga I had ever read and this is the manga that gave me a deep rooted megane and reverse harem obsessions (oh Kyouya.......) of course i have read different mangas and i found this isn't the BEST read but its a good beginners manga. when the drawing started to change near the end it wasn't much too my liking but whatever! Personally I thought Tamaki was a complete idiot and sometimes i just wanted to turn myself into a character and straight up shoot him in the brain. Still ended up liking him because he was so kind. Since I didn't know much about manga i kept thinking Kyouya's and Tamaki's names were senpai....... I also didn't know about what the twins were selling but then i looked it up....... yeah had that to get used to.
But altogether good read (note* didnt say great), i would spend time on it. these had bishies EVERYWHERE and every single one of the i would sell my soul to have (of course Kyouya i would do more then just sell my soul for......) I ABSOLUTELY ADORED THE ANIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so i would reccomend to watch that also
The most interesting parts, for me, where the one developing the characters, their own stories, their family background . And also the art is amazing: the clothes, the characters themselves, the surroundings, everything was so well done. Sometimes while seeing Tamaki´s face it seemed so real to me, so handsome and so charming.
Getting to know the mangaka´s point of view, about the human nature, the way they face problems, it is a great experience.
i used to really love this series and even bought the first 12 volumes of the manga. then, i dunno, the shoujo romance started to blossom everywhere complete with all the bells and whistles of other typical shoujos and i just got bored with it. the other themes in the manga were handled brilliantly and to see the romance handled so...blah....i just dropped it to save myself some grief.
still love the characters to death and love the humor! i'll still remember this series fondly as a rom-com with great potential.
I agree, I didn't "read" the entire manga. I read the first few chapters and got familiar with the characters. Then I skimmed some of the "filler" chapters. I read the ones that introduced a good problem, drama(which I didn't think there was much of until later in the manga), or romantic development (which there also wasn't a lot of until toward the end).
Anywho, no need to know how I read this book, when I finished it I read the chapters I missed so it's all good. It was great for a first read, really enjoyed the plot and characters Very happy ending. I don't think I can read the whole manga again. Usually when I start missing Haruhi and the gang I read the first chapters up until they realize she's a girl, skip a few chapters to when Tamaki starts realizing he might have deeper feelings for Haruhi (and I mean really realizing, not just his strange fatherly love) and then to the last few chapters when they become a couple and confess.
But don't get me wrong, the other chapters are good but the manga is pretty long and I don't have enough time or attention-span to read all of them. However, when I have enough time i do like to go back and read some of my favorite adventures with them:]
On another note, for those that might become annoyed at her character, Haruhi is both cute and boyish, gentle and strong, naive and intelligent. She's a perfect heroine and Tamaki compliments her calm demeanor well. (Sorry to the Hikaru and Kouru fans, i love them but they didn't stand a chance against the King)
Good manga, give it a try. It's definitely one of those really popular mangas everyone should try once. You won't be disappointed!
Ouran High School Host Club is amazing. Okay, so I do admit that I got a bit bored by the time I reached volume 16 and didn't actually "read read" the rest of the manga but rather just skimmed it. However, this manga is amazing for a variety of reasons. First off, the characters have a lot more depth than the typical romantic comedy manga. Second, the manga was great not because of the romance, but rather because of the friendship between the host club members (yes I know it sounds cliche). I liked Tamaki and Haruhi together, but Haruhi kind of irked me towards the end of the manga. I actually found that out of all of the characters, Haruhi probably had the least depth in terms of development. She was the most uninteresting character and had the most bland back story. Rather than seeing her as down-to-earth, frank, and so-called wise, I just found her very bleh. She had no character, and she had no emotion. Well she does have emotion, but there was just something about her that felt so empty. I will commend the mangaka on not making Haruhi a stupid, whiny, weepy, clingy, obsessed with finding love in high school girl. The ending was good, but I'm sorry, I'm a huge HaruhiXHikaru fan, so seeing Hikaru being rejected made me really depressed. There was no doubt that she was going to end up with Tamaki from the beginning, but still, it's hard not to fall in love with Hikaru. Read this manga. It's worth it.
After watching the anime and picking up the manga fort the remainder of the chapters, I have to say I had the feeling the anime covered the fun volumes, and the remaining ones were much more dull. Therefore I recommend watching the anime or reading the first 9 volumes, the rest I recommend not so much if not for some closure.
This is one shoujo manga that I actually enjoyed. Most of the time, I don't like drawn out love stories (and I almost NEVER enjoy romantic comedies). Even though I'm more drawn toward shounen, this story was not boring at all. The gender bending quality of the story also drew me in because I love the gender bend genre. ^_^
Anyways, I recommend this to anyone that is not entirely opposed to shoujo.
