The main story, WANTE-D, is not only extremely bland, but it makes very little sense and has no narrative flow. Basically, a girl who thinks she's some sort of crime-fighting superhero starts working together with a group of "school protectors," with the goal of preventing staff corruption. It doesn't sound that bad until you realize that most of the 4 (really short) chapters are taken up by scenes of them jumping all over the school like ninjas, interspersed with Tohri's interaction with the council president (whom she suddenly decides she's fallen for out of the blue) and random scenes between Tohri and her mother. Honestly, I'd be hard pressed to think of another story that is so badly executed. On top of that, we have the typical Mizuto Aqua-style art - big hair at the front, totally deflated at the back and really strange proportions.

The reason for the higher rating is for the two oneshots included with this volume, both of which I liked. Neither are remarkable, but they pulled together as a complete story far better than WANTE-D did in four chapters.

First Step - This one is a fairly typical shoujo story about a girl who met and began to crush on a guy whom she met 10 years ago - he helped her find her mother when she was lost and gave her a good luck charm with his name on it. Fast forward to the modern day, and the boy is now a famous celebrity who wants her to pretend-date him. The rest of the story is predictable. I think part of the reason I was happy with it was because it was such a relief to read something coherent, compared to the main story. There are still plot holes (e.g. why on earth does a special photoshoot require these celebs to get a pretend girlfriend to drive away fangirl hordes?), but they're not that offensive.

The Wish Blooming Under the Sakura Trees - Ah, this one is the one that I really liked. We have a bit of a supernatural bent here - Mutsuki is studying for her exams, hoping the charms from the sakura shrine will give her a bit of luck. She's dismayed when the deity himself pops up in chibi form and bullies her into helping him collect the 6 beads that have somehow gotten mixed into the charms that the shrine distributes. The romance is light and only implied at the end, but it's cute. Too bad this one wasn't longer!
