Sakura Gari is a Taishou Era romantic story, ten years in the making. It centers around the 16 year old Tagami Masataka as he is aiming to find his place in life. While attempting to start prep school as a rounin he encounters Saiki Souma, the son of a distinguished noble of the Saiki Koushyaku family and becomes part of the Saiki household.

It seems as though this will be the story of Tagami's life, taking us through both him growing up physically and emotionally.

Oh...the latest chapter make me cry for joys! >< OMG Really, what it take so long for 1 chapter release? The climax when Souma sama suicide and said " is that enough?" Totally, yuu sensei make SG more and more attractive ! I hope their love will develop after this! I really fell bad for Souma when he said he's not a doll and he want the love from Tagami, actually, Souma is so pitiful! Everyone looked at him with a lusty look and didn't asked for his heart, gradually he became a "western doll" with no feeling ,no heart,no meaning of living. Except Tagami,he gave Souma "warm korrokke" shared his sadness, his happiness, his smiles... and of course, when Tagami denied Souma, his heart just teared into pieces.I know it's a tragedy story but i can't stop hoping the ending of this is a happiness for everyone! ( And i hope next chapter will release a little faster ^^'..uhm, after 2 or 3 months a chap is reaaaaaaaaaaaaally slow as snail sad( . Hic..vol2 chap 2 will comes out on 10th JANUARY )

WATASE Yuu, and Yaoi :o ...shocker...

I've read up to chapter 4 and I have to say, WATASE Yuu has left me speechless.

I've read most of all of her manga works and found the repetitiveness of them to be veeery bland. It was a huge shocker that this SHOUJO mangaka actually made a YAOI manga. The art work is beautiful and the dark and riveting plot leaves you captivated and wanting more. I personally don't like dark, tragic manga but the way Yuu incorporates it into her deep plotline seriously leaves me speechless.

It's a sad thing that she releases each chapter SEASONALLY, meaning only four chapters a YEAR. *sigh* At least the scanlators get the chapters days after their initial release in Japan and pop out the chapter faster than normal...This is a HIGHLY recommended read for any die hard YAOI fans who want a more serious malexmale relationship prepared for pretty boys and lots and lots of angst...

Normally, I tend to avoid anything by WATASE Yuu since most of her shoujo tend to follow the same formula. But wow... just wow... Sakura Gari is completely different; a much darker and richer story with interesting characters. This is definitely my favourite out of all her work, and definitely worth the read. biggrin

Watase Yuu? Yaoi? This still feels weird.

Wow, when Watase Yuu does yaoi, she really goes for broke: her (prolooonged) sex scenes impressed the hell out of me. The couple involved are a bit hit-and-miss, but that's down to personal kink rather than any flaw in the characterisation - the uke's very young, in more ways than in years, and I can't help but feel a little dissociated from him. Heís drawn consistently well though, as is pretty much everything in this manga. I donít know what it is about it, but this period is being portrayed in a way that thereís a real sense of place and time thatís very nice to see.

Sakura Gari seems more than anything to be a call-back to the angsty BL epics you donít see too much of any more, heaped with mystery, melodrama and tragedy. You can't help but be swept along by that kind of thing. I'll never call Watase Yuu half-hearted again: when she throws herself into somethingÖ

When I first found out that Watase Yuu was the author, honestly, I got turned off. D: (What attracted me was that it was a yaoi manga <3) However, I eventually got over it and began to read Sakura Gari, To my surprise, Sakura Gari is so....great. It actually has a plot, contrary to most of the yaoi I read, and ties in mystery, romance, betrayal, history, and secrets. Also, the art is gorgeous, as expected from Watase Yuu. I'd recommend this to any open-minded reader who likes a good story.

Lastly, if you don't like yaoi, don't bother picking up this story, honestly. Sure, it's Watase Yuu, but at least check the genre before reading and discrediting this great piece of work.

chapter 4?

i have read all 3 chapters so far. and i think watase sensei undoubtly has been producing a magneficient storyline of BL manga. unlike some other manga, which sometimes go all through the way bluntly with guys make up something. this manga really shocked my nerves with its systemathically plot and beautiful artwork. i like its realistic way of souma falling in love and why he has to do 'that' to masataka and somehow i think its very romantic! i hope that this series will last longer. does anyone know where i can read chapter 4?

Well, who would've thought that Watase-sensei's actually made a yaoi! To be honest my eyes sort of blinked twice to make sure when I saw the manga's genre... I'm a bit surprised there... But anyway, at the moment for me the story is really dark, sad, but it's also beautiful at the same time, quite different from the usual work she has made so far!

About the unattractive uke and amazingly beautiful seme sort of reminds me of beauty and the beast, which is to me probably one of the reason why I think this manga is beautiful.

It's really good to read something like this once in awhile, not the usual happy lovey-dovey thing with sad ending, or maybe the main female character who sadly needed to be saved by her knight almost the whole story... I'm expecting the next volume! Hope it'll turn out good just as the start of the story!

Yes, it has drama and "creepy" things, which usually i don't like. But this is completely interesting...I like that the main character is pure but not naive. There are some mangakas that mix the meaning of naivety and purity, and then what you get is an stupid character.
I won't rate it yet because this is one of that rares opportunities when i don't truly know how the manga will end.
And i neither will say anymore because i didn't have any idea what it was about when i first read it and that was better.

Well, what can I say? That's the first Yuu Watase manga I actually liked. Her shoujo stuff was so cliched, I got the chills from reading them. However, let's see what she's able to come up with, within 1 volume.

So far, the characterisation, plot, historic setting, etc. seem to be top notch. However, it remains to be seen if the story will maintain coherence till the end or if it will turn into a dud: as in an over-dramatic/melodramatic ending where half the cast ends up dying or killing one another since a lot of "tragedy-themed" stories tend to take that path, after a rather promising start. After all, an extremely drastic ending is the shortcut which a lot of manga take 'cos it requires plenty of skill to work out a conclusive ending, after setting up lots of plot and character complications and complexities.
