one of my favorite works, but...

The story is amazing, i adore the art very much, i loved the characters and cannot count how many times it has got me crying from laughing, but i, as many others, have problems with the ending. I feel like it was VERY hurried, but what annoys me the most is Hana's story. We never got to see any of her backstory explained, she just remains the mysterious ex deliquent with supposedly terrifying parents till the end!!! And if only the author had more time to explain her story and make the ending longer, like, what did she do after she came back? DID ANY ROMANCE ACTUALLY HAPPEN BETWEEN THE TWO MCS and like it could've worked quite well that way (exclude the fact she 'never finished hs' please it is just weird..).

The predecessor for this kind of trope, I think

This is one of my first manga that I read and enjoyed. At that time, I have no expectation or experience reading manga. I just go with the flow. Lucky for me, I don't think anything bad with the ending. But one thing I can say, this manga still manage to leave an impact on me even after couple of years. It is an interesting read and all the cast are likable so just suck up to the ending even if it was bad.

It started so good, ended pretty bad

Fyi I have completed yamada kun before I started this series, so i wasn't expecting much knowing that this series came out earlier than yamada kun. But during the first (maybe) 30 chapters, i had so much fun reading this. To the point that it became one of my favourites. After that 30 chapters mark however i started to feel like this series has no direction at all. I started to read this not because it's interesting but because I want to know the ending. It's still entertaining to some point but not as much as it used to be. In the end, it feels like the author had many ideas and even started to execute them but they were left as loose ends.
Overall i give it 8/10 just because it's ok enough to keep me from boredom.

Entertaining and disappointing at the same time

This series would have been one of my all-time favorites. I remember reading it as it was being translated and enjoying the humor and the growth of all the characters. It evoked a lot of good feelings and I found myself rooting for everyone. But at the same time, as the series continued, it started to feel like it was being drawn out and I realized that the titular Megane-chan stagnated as a character to the point of irrelevance. Never before have I read a manga where one of the supposed main characters becomes a joke that's more of an obstacle to the rest of the story than anything else. Adachi Hana never grew from being a cheap gag and in the end it seems like she never belonged in the story at all, to the point that

she gets removed from the final chapters
, with no effort to give her a true backstory. It really cheapened the struggle of the male protagonist whose romantic subplot got tragically side-lined. It really spoils all the character growth that he displayed over the course of the series and feels like the author scrapped any romantic development that the series could have had, aside from a few side-characters who get a passing mention at the end.

If I were to recommend this series, it could be on the strengths of its male protagonist alone. Shinagawa Daichi was the real star, and you get to see him grow a lot during the course of the story, although mostly everyone else gets an honorary mention as they all are quite likeable and sympathetic.

It was a fun journey, but like many manga, the ending leaves something to be desired.

Hana disappears and then comes back right at the end

I've noticed that to be an on going theme for many manga. A great journey that leads to either a bullshit ending where nothing in the journey mattered or its complete inconclusive and vague.

The end.

If you can stomach Hana's personality and enjoy comedy / school life series, this will be a fairly enjoyable read. However...

It's one thing to decide not to reveal almost anything about one of the two main characters, but that ending. This is the first I've ever had a mind = blown experience because of a series' ending. There's a bad feeling I had about 20-30 chapters before the ending, but not only was Hana's past apart from being a deliquent left completely untouched, she disappeared and reappeared without much explanation.

In a nutshell, good series, ending should never be read by anyone. "Bad" doesn't even get close to describing it.

Yamada-kun should have ended, and this continue

At the time this ended, Yamada-kun had reached its conclusion and read as though one should be expecting the end. This manga's ending screams of being axed, as though a business decision was made to extend Yamada-kun instead. I would have given this series a 10 if the ending weren't so audaciously bad.

Liked it, but...

Looking back I think this manga was extremely interesting.
I liked the fact that this group of misfits managed to become great friends and meet even more people. It is funny, but doesn't go for the overkill, it has some serious moments but it's not melodramatic. It was a good showcase of a highschool experience and it showed the characters having fun and being serious about their futures and their lives.
It lacked a lot in the romance department and in developing one of the most important relationships in the story. In the end it felt really rushed and it seemed that the mangaka was just trying anything and everything. Why introduce one character for about three chapters or so when she had no point in being in the story in the first place?
The last chapter? I don't know what to say. Nothing solved, a return that is both weird and out of place, not the best or even decent way to end such a pleasant journey.

I thought it was okay in the beginning and took up the series again after like 6 months but to be honest? I don't think I'll ever finish it.... Adachi is just too annoying for me... I've tried and I can't go on

crashing down to the ground

I was hoping for a sad yet inspiring ending now that adachi disappeared. unfortunately, years of building up a great solid story came crashing down, crumbled in ruins, all because of that bad ending... so bad that I have to go to a psychologist to get rid of what I've just read. GOD KILL ME NOW! I'm so very disappointed to Miki Yoshikawa right now... I hope Yamada-kun to 7-nin no majo doesn't get the same treatment....
