I will try to keep this as light in spoilers and avoid anything major but I do believe in providing light spoilers to help people decide if this is a story they want to read.

So lets start it off by stating the obvious given many of the other comments. This story is racist to many races especially races near China, this story is sexist as hell to where most women are either capable or a s*x slave with few inbetweens, and the story is cruel as hell. And not in the fun way, like there are two parts where a woman is faced to sleep with a dog in this story for no reason. And yet after saying all that, the story is one of the better guilty pleasures I have saved.

The story can be said to be 3 major arcs in the very end which I will call Round 1, prelude, and round 2. The reason this story is one of the best guilty pleasures is because especially in Round 1 you have so many themes that if this story stayed with it could have been so much more. You have new world abilities vs old world technology, you have realistic fights against zombies, you have politics, you have world building, you have army building, you have genuine tactics at some points, and many many more interesting and cool themes. Yes the sexism and racism in Round 1 is arguably the greatest, but at the same time the potential of this story is also at its greatest. You can have people with these new RPG abilities fight against video game style zombies and monsters and have to combine using real world technology which wont evolve them and then using their new abilities to level. You can have world politics with full on invasions and wars. You have ability evolutions and even enemy creature and zombie evolutions which keep the story going. But sadly the story couldnt keep going this way.
The Prelude still has some army building but it... starts to decline. Its at this point where anyone besides the main character is just trash and the army fights and interesting technology take a side line as the MC becomes a typical Wuxia.
Finally Round 2 commits the grave sin of sacrificing all the story build up to make cool moments and honestly after reading this story 3 times I could never finish it myself and had to google the ending because it just gets way to bad.

TLDR; Every major arc after Round 1 essentially has major plot holes or even ruins the story itself which doesn't help the stories case. If you can manage to read past the insane levels of racism and sexism in this story it can actually be a pretty decent read for at least Round 1, however I will not blame anyone who cant because some of this stuff is just insane.

I was put off by the some of the comments flaming this novel. But turns out they are nothing but trolls. The latest one by steaiii for example is not even referring to this title. It's obvious they have not read this novel at all.

One of the things that's great about this novel is how realistic it is. The people in it are SMART. They act as real humans would in an apocalypse.

Ever gotten sick of people in zombie movies somehow getting killed even though the zombies are dumb, slow and stupid? Well this novel has none of that. It shows EFFECTIVE use of modern firepower can blow any zombie horde out of the water any day of the week. The author has to buff the zombies to outrageous levels not seen in any other titles for them to even cope.

And man oh man the battles in this novel are epic. Fast moving action, sound tactics, excellent and realistic use of forces. The betrayals, the politics, the twists. It's down and dirty just like what the real world would be, if everything ended like hell in a hand-basket.

I was particularly impressed with the MC as well. The guy is a tank. He just keeps going and going and going. He's a man of action, I haven't read anybody as quick and decisive as this guy. All other MCs are passive and laid back in comparison. Even after winning a particularly exhausting battle, I would of thought he would take a break and rest. But no, he goes straight for the jugular, wisely and speedily cutting into the heart of the enemy base while they're fragmented and demoralised.

Same goes for his personal dealings. Any scum giving him attitude? Boom headshot. Bad guy dead in the first 5 seconds! In any other novel, it probably would of resulted in a whole arc where MC confronts to the bad guys, some trash talk, both sides gathering forces to fight, bad guys trying but failing to kill MC, etc. A whole lot of time goes by with all that nonsense. But here? None of that. So many such situation in this story gets nipped in the bud before any of that happens. It's almost funny in how refreshingly effective compared to standard story building tropes.

Now the novel is not perfect. There's some annoying issues with the translation. Like the names been changed all the time. There's lots of characters introduced in this novel. I made a glossary to keep track. But the translators just ups and changes them for no reason. It's very annoying I've got no idea who's who. At least keep them consistent and standardise them. Same applies to weapons, skill names, and places. (Like where the hell is "Long Teng", and wtf is the "Chinese Sky Association"??) Also I don't know what's going on with translators calling Vietnamese who hate Chinese "racists", when obviously they're same "race". That's just stupid. There's not even a word in Chinese for "race". So taking incorrect personal liberties with the terms distracts from the story. Standard hate monger/xenophobic/extremist would of been more accurate. Also don't me started on how many "cannons" there are and stuffing up the names for guns. (The initial translator gun names were accurate, why change it?)

Buuut, anyway translation issues aside, the story is entertaining. The MC is awesome and like many Chinese novels, makes you want to read just "one more chapter" all the time. It's a solid novel for those wanting to take a break from wuxia/xanxia themed titles and try out some zombie apocalypse!

The selfishness and sexism always annoyed me in this series but it was barely tolerable for how far i got

I really have to say no to this novel for all these reason:
1st: the author think too lightly of women.Women is biologically weaker than men but the author show that they are like trophy or extra baggage in this novel just like the old Eastern Feudalism.It is wrong, so wrong that any normal sane people in this world will admit that.
2nd: while it is somewhat showing the human true colour, it is just too twisted.While it is true that some people will fall in depravity if the order and law are removed, it isnt like that people are bad in nature like the author show us.If he show that people becoming insane because of seeing their beloved turn into zombie or broken because they throw away their friend to save themself, i will still believe it.But what he show us is corruption and greed which is much more normal in era of peace, rather than era of war like this.The government isnt that stupid to the point of sending good for nothing general that possess less skill in management than a normal student.Not to mention if you corner people too far, especially if it is hunger, people will not care who you are and come to kill you for sure since they will die either way.
3th: the author mix in his own hatred in his work.He set up that foreigner receive privilege and abuse those to rape woman but if you think logically about it, foreigner is in the worst situation since all people around them will treat them less friendly compared to their own country man and if their own country man is treated as trash , do you think they will care about something like international law and relationship? Foreinger is considered lucky if they arent used as the tools to relieve stress and frustration of the native people.
I really feel tired of lots of Chinese novel nowaday.It isnt that they writing skill is bad or that their plot is weak,they are just too twisted and the only thing they show is the ugly scene of their country which make me really disappointed.When i read Magi, i really like Kou empire philosophy and think that the country that it is based on is really cool but while the people from another country (and even the country that they hate and slander the most) show me that that country is cool and great, what that country own people show me is twisted and greedy people,rotten government ,discrimination and cruelty.

The story starts very well, it can be said that it is a little low pace. sometimes there are some discrepancies but it doesn't affect the flow of the story. the MC is a antihero, to explain better everything he does is to achieve his goals of saving his life and of his close ones, he is not the nice guy who forgives everyone, but he is not evil either.
I'm at the 180 th chapter and started reading it 2 days ago, so for me is a good choice to read.
The novel is very dark, i believe that it shows very well the human nature, strictly speaking the dark one. how power eats people and make them believe they can do whatever they want.
I don't want to say much, to not to spoil your readings.

Last thing, i will like you to think for a moment about somethings mention in the story about discrimination and machismo or male chauvinism.

The main character is, without a doubt, the Governor (Walking Dead) or some similar type of iron-fist ruler. There are not much, if any, truly meaningful character development and most female characters, if not all, are "weak" and don't have any means to protect themselves in this novel. The plot lacks depth, especially in how Zombies are created in the beginning of the novel. However, I do find it interesting to read because the main character, in my opinion, has some semblance to Weed (Moonlight Sculptor, it will take too much work to explain why). I also anticipate for the MC: to become more ambitious, to attempt to gain power, to create an empire, to lose that empire, and to die a villain's death (such as Light Yagami, though the MC in this case was not righteous as he was before the apocalapse). There is still very much to happen and much to explain so it sets itself up for a more grandiose plot/world-building. Reading it up to the present chapter (192) has been entertaining in my opinion, if those issues above can be taken with a grain of salt. The cover art does not represent the story very well in my opinion, which is the last thing I wish to say. Thanks for reading.

The story started off quite decently. The MC has his world turned upside down as some sort of "God" decides to unleash an RPG based zombie apocalypse upon the world. The MC spends almost no time lamenting the loss of his previous life but this is acceptable considering the sudden danger he is in. As he escapes and gathers his single friend he continues to level up and learn what is necessary in this new world.

Pros:
- The leveling system is interesting and brings a new dynamic to the normal zombie apocalypse stratagem.
- The character is ruthless straight from the beginning and does not make many stupid decisions

Cons
- Author becomes extremely racist after about 150 chapters. No, it is not a racism observed in the world that the MC fights in but racism by the author against non-Chinese people. Would racism theoretically exist? Yes. Does every Japanese need to be referred to as a dog? No.
-MC becomes bad guy without author recognizing it. MC begins to rape, kill, etc just like the people he called "trash" in the beginning. However, instead of the MC recognizing this change in himself he still pretends to be good and "saves" citizens from other "trash" rulers. Even though they are better people than him.
-Game elements dropped partway through. Self explanatory.
-Sexism. Only two independent girls in the world? Really? The rest want to be sex slaves? I highly doubt that would happen.
- Poor writing. Many times author forgets what his character was doing. People will open car doors with a hand that was shooting a gun, or perhaps climb a ladder that has already fallen over.

Conclusion: While starting off very promising the story quickly falls down hill as the authors own personal feelings replace the paradigm character he originally aimed to create. This would be mildly acceptable if the story kept its theme but instead transforms into a horror/hentai.

The clues and hints are there
Its not your average zombie thing in my opinion its more like of an alien invasion



Terror Infinity ,If you had read this you can see some similar aspects
For example One of the reason for this game to be created was to discover unique humans for future evolution (I think..)
I believe the so called GOD was an alien overlord powerful enough to convert the system of earth as his play thing..
The concept of the game is the same to your average MMRPOG

What I like about this novel is the not your very average Main Character

The other thing is the Stupidity of the Human is greatly shown in this novel
The abuse of power , The Struggle to survive, The girls is willing to sell there body for some few foods
The Sexual Maniac males, and so on.. ( I wanna add the part where people keep on saying MC's racism sadly this people can't even understand and accept the concept of another world. they keep on insulting the author and accusing him of racism seriously if they are so amazing then they write there own novel. I think it can't be called racism when the world is filled with zombies and many humans are dying everyday as food. I rather call it the will to live than racism. this people to read a FICTION story and still compare it in real life is so funny. I mean your reading a FICTION story so why must insist and connect it to REAL LIFE!)

There are some points where I could not agree with the MC
For example his obsession towards Guns (Technically speaking they are useless to me)


And the thing is this novel lack the most important thing when we are talking about zombie


Finally all I can say its a good novel (Its been awhile that I read such interesting novel)

These people keep on referring to Highschool of the Dead, I just don't find the similarities other than there's a loose harem and there are " zombies".

First off, HotD is just a friggin zombies and boobs apocalyptic manga, to put it bluntly. This novel is clearly orienting around game mechanics and zombies with harem. Sorry but you don't get skill books, gear or money from zombies in HotD. There are even newbie villages within this world own by this god. And it gives you classes and item upgrade and gear. There's also a lot more "cruel" but atypical post apocalyptic scenarios like girls are only useful as play toys or become prostitutes for a bag of instant noodles. These are one of the things I really disliked about this novel. Anyways, later on, it goes toward reclaiming towns, cities and even provinces.

At the end of the day, this IS NOT a real post apocalyptic survival story. It's more like a post apocalyptic survival game.
