It was good in the beginning, but it got old fast as the same motif got used again and again: Dragon girl gets kidnapped, Dragon boy comes rescueing while trying to defeat the last boss Zhong Ta.
Also, every time a historical figure says something, whether it's smart, insightful, or just plain text book quotes, several characters will remark something along the lines 'how smart!", "such a great man!" etc. just like how we are made to think Light and L are geniuses in Deadth Notes.
The only good things going for this manga are the fighting, as I'm a big of martial art, and beautiful drawing. But even such qualities are lost after +250 chapters, as the author attemps a reboot, called a sequel while it's still in mid story, and where such qualities decline as the fighting became ridiculous with magic-like-chi power, and the art style became simple, childish, and cartoonish.
Did the author lose it? Can't blame him, as this manga was started back in 1993, and after more than 20 years of drawing the same things, it's not surprising if he got sick of them, but is too attatched or scared or whatever to start a new manga series.
Now, just a quick look at the raw scan and i can pretty much guess what's going on, and i'm just doing that to see how he plans to end this series, at least, properly. Even a great manga can be ruined by a bad ending, though this one's been ruined mid way, as i've read +250 chapters, i'd still wanna see how it ends and see if it's as i expected or not. Though i doubt it's going to end any time soon ...

It is a really interesting and entertaining read but Masumi is like the second coming of Athena, a new Saori Kido and Shirou is the new Seiya. Anyone who has read or watched the saint seiya franchise will understand how the story goes with just my previous statement.
I cant stand it anymore I've reached chapter 91 when I wrote this edit but this is enough...
I really hate to stop a story midways but my anger at reading this is greater, if Masumi is killed let me know with a PM so I start reading from that chapter, probably I wont miss anything special.

I cant stand Athena, I mean Masumi, it is ridiculous how this character gets kidnapped every time Shirou is close to saving her or she decides to "stay", fuck this! I grew tired of the repetitiveness of this crap, I really liked this manga but Im sick of this girl being taken always at the precise moment.

So nothing really changes beside strange supernatural stuff that not really good either. If they has this kind of powers, wouldn't the story of the Three Kingdoms changes a lot? I feel it's like a waste of time reading a re-harsh with supernatural elements.
Best Manga out there IMHO

I am not going to tell so much about the whole plot, But I enjoyed the story up to about chapter 103 so far. I love the authors work so far, the romance is just enough for an action series.
The beginning of the story reminded me of Eden no Ori during the plane ride. The plane ride scene both the MC's were playing around and the love interest were talking about the MC in very similar ways.
Back on track though great read, pretty lengthy but enjoyable none the less. I recommend for all mature readers.

Ryuuroden beautifully infuses a great depth of originality into the Romance Of The Kingdoms classic. As a huge fan of the ROTK classic, Ryuuroden offers a rich content that has nothing but excellence. The originality develops without harming the Three Kingdoms background and within it lies an ingenuity of direction and focus; whilst ROTK was a story on the Three Kingdoms era, Ryuuroden is a story of a focal hero in the Three Kingdoms era with a designated enemy that brings chaos and destruction against the Three Kingdoms era itself. This theme is so deeply and perfectly crafted that the Three Kingdoms era could still exist without being harmed in itself; i.e. any changes to it is marvelously replaced by the heroism of a Shiro Amachi, i.e. when the ROTK element retracts, the story pulls us forward through the struggle of Shiro against the bringer of chaos. In fact, Shiro's journey has so far beautifully encompassed all three major kingdoms within the timeline. The author has succeeded in retelling the story through a totally new point of view without failing to put him through the major events of ROTK in a manner that is different but does not fail to include the essence of ROTK; the important characters and the tactical warfare.
I find this manga to be so beautiful that I have read this manga countless times even as the new sequel of Ryuuroden has begun to spin off. Even though some of the arcs may be boring to some (I reckon the wolf arc, the spirit body arc and the Mongolian arc), reading it patiently will eventually pay off when the reader understands where the author is trying to lead Shiro into. In fact, I have followed this manga for more than 12 years since its publication in my country and this manga remains the only manga that I constantly earnestly wait for its next tankobon release.
Those who enjoy ROTK, shounen and martial arts manga will find that Ryuuroden is one of its kind which contains the perfect symmetry of these genres.

after patiently reading all 37 volumes now I can say I waste my time....... at first I gave it a 10 for being good. It really made me hook up to it. But after vol 20+ it get's infinitely drag and until to the point.... I'm just looking and doesn't care anymore and waiting for it to end but until vol 37 it still didn't end... Great utterly disappointed.
I would probably read the sequel if it really END!!!
Spoiler (highlight to view)
the girl nasumi is just getting passed on from the prime minster to the emperor and all attempts are to nothing then this chuntai guy is the enemy till no end. It's really frustrating to no end.
I would probably read the sequel if it really END!!!
unique & fun!

this manga is incredible! the characters in this manga (which is from 3 Kingdoms) are well drawed and very charismatic.
But the storyline quite slow, but each volume will entertaining
Well, i already read 37 volumes and i wasn't disappoint at all. Usually long volumes were boresome, but this is an exceptional.

"It was too dragged. The plot is so slow, IMO. And I don't like how it seems there's always a reason to prevent Shiro and Masumi to back together again. Honestly, their scene is what I'm waiting for."
I completely agree. Also, the cast is quite large -- and without much character building. Maybe for chinese history buffs this would be a treat, but its simply tedious for the layman.
