My rating for this series would've been higher, but the second volume brought it down. Vol 2 is not bad at all by any means, but the mood and intensity of vol 1 and vol 2 was so different that it was grating. The wonderful message behind the first few chapters in vol 1 were heading in an almost slice-of-life direction and then the second volume became more of a average fluffed yaoi, which isn't bad, but I became so immersed in the first half that it felt almost as if the mangaka kind of gave up on the story in the second half. If each volume was on its own, I would've given each at least a rating of 8 because each had its own strengths, but together it just didn't fit and lovers of the first half like me would feel bereft. What I hated the most was the time skip between the first volume and second which caused me to feel removed from the story and the main couple's relationship. I also thought the inclusion of the second couple and the seme's brother was unnecessary and probably just filler. Instead of wasting a few chapters introducing a few new characters, I would've liked to know what happened to the uke's friend Terada and her dream to become a lawyer. Additionally, in the first volume I cheered on the uke, but in the second volume his stubbornness and unwillingness to compromise with the seme was beginning to get irritating. It's such a shame that my liking for his character changed so drastically between the volumes. At least I'll admit that the smex was awesome.

The second volume looks more like omake, full of H-scenes, w/o serious plot (but I haven't read it yet!!!)

i enjoyed volume 1 for it made me understood two main characters, there were many plots, and that i makes me laugh!! but i feel that there weren't much H scenes going on and i was fine with that....
however!!!! when i started to read volume 2 - WOW, i didn't expect it to have H scene right form the start. LOVE all the H scene in volume 2. even though there were more it also wasn't so much, it was just enough to satisfy my thirst to see some love going on between the couple... also, the H scenes in this manga for the main couple is something that find interesting, new, and enjoyable!!! ^^
i like how the mangaka don't rush things and slowly builds up the couple's relationship. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT I FIND IN ALL HER WORK!!! <3 <3 <3

[spoiler] what am i the only one bothered that Tamiya only goes to Tohdou because the sensei he truly has the hots for is already taken? he just sleeps with him after he finds out he is with someone else. he even masturbates after he gets kissed by the teacher. i didnt feel anything true feelings between, Tamiya and Tohdou. tamiya even in the 2nd volume still has his eyes on other guys. i found their first time so sad, because he was crying for that jerk sensei.

This is possibly a little bit superficial, but one of the things that makes this manga stand out over others is the variety of sex positions. I really loved that the characters didn't just do the usual anal sex every time - it's just not realistic for that to be one's first sexual experience and then never do anything else. There are lots of ways to have sex, really, and Yoshinaga didn't limit the characters to just one. I really liked that, and it made the whole thing just feel more real and much less like one of the male characters was simply a stand-in for a female character.

I liked the story progression and the characters themselves, too. But it was the way the sex was presented in the story that made it stand out to me.

Never..never.. never had I read such a good yaoi before! An excellent one! Yoshinaga-sensei is my favorite y-author, and her mangas are always good, but this one is just among her best. Strong plot and simply fancy lovely artstyle, interesting and nicely-developed characters... Even the sex scenes are well-depicted, both sexy and lovey-dovey.

I read this manga about... geez... it was back when I was in college... so about 5 years ago! And as the title states: I am glad it was the first yaoi I read.

I like to think of myself as an intellectual person. I am not a fan of just reading smutt. And not a fan of just reading manga with pretty drawings and that's all there is to it. Nope. I like mangas that have a seriousness to them... with strong character development... depth... substance.. blah blah blah.

So, yeah, I have to say that this was a good yaoi for me to read first. I like that it was set in law school. And I really like the drawings.. because the art had a more realistic feel to it... the characters weren't the typical bishies drawings that come in standard yaoi... and I think that helped with the seriousness of the story. I am not saying that the story is "serious"... it had comical parts in it... and it was cute... light feeling to it... but... when I say "serious"... I'm saying that I could see the two characters relationship to be real and serious... Eh. It's hard for me to write a review when I read this 5 years ago... but, wanted to let those out there know that this is probably a good yaoi to read if you haven't read any before. But, I'm different... so don't take my suggestion/advice as gold. Haha. ^ ^

Oh! And you cannot help but love the ramen-haired Toudou... who really helps pull that stick out of uptight-Tamiya's butt... teeehehehehe

i loved tohdou! he was the quintessential goofball seme. and thats always awesome. I love how Tamiya was soo consistent and how the relationship progressed. and little brother tohdou was entertaining also.

i haven't really read as in. just having first impression.

since this was publish in the 90's, i was suprised because the art is suprisingly good. the plot had a really good flow to it. and hmmn, the romance will be great. (every chapter is soooooooo long! it makes me wanna cry.)

there, im finished. i think side story are not necessary i think if the author just leave it like that it will end beautifully but the side story is ok.

its on my top 3. 90's story seems really good.

Among Yoshinaga's works, which are all high quality, this one is one of my favorite, a perfect balance of comedy, some slight drama, and interesting characters with a deep personality which evolve through the story.
The art is as gorgeous as ever, and the sex scenes are hot without being too much.
