I felt like the quality of the manga dropped as the chapters progressed. Also, I kind of felt like the main characters lacked something, but I can't really specify what that "something" was.

I'll update this review if I can figure out a more detailed explanation of what I meant. Overall, though, it is a great manga.

The Hating Girl is about a boy who meets a girl with an arrow stuck in her head. How did it get there? We don't know, and the boy doesn't either, so he really wants to know why there's an arrow in her head, and starts to become friends with her.

That's basically all the storyline information you need. View The Hating Girl as a 'monster-of-the-week' kind of manga, it has silly little plots in each chapters, and it rarely gets carried over to the next one. Though it does one thing that most 'episodic' manga don't do, and that is to carry the feelings over from one chapter to the other. Progress between the girl and boy is slow, but sort of realistic. They grow on one another, and eventually fall in love.

In return for lacking any real plotline, The Hating Girl has got heart and charm. It's a breeze to read through, nothing getting quite serious, and if there is any drama at all, it'll be solved in the next chapter. That's what makes this manga so fun though, it's a nice read and you can just sit there and read it at ease. Of course, you got to have this kind of taste, otherwise you'll probably get bored and stop reading after a few chapters. Just like the manga Love Roma, this manga is slow but cute and funny.

I actually liked the art, it takes a bit getting used to because of its unique style, but it adds to the charm of the story. I'll take this artstyle over any generic shoujo style any day. Then there's also the ecchi factor to take into consideration. Like Love Roma, this manga can get pretty damn perverted, but it's still all innocent and fun, though those chapters do stand out like a sore thumb.

Anyways, The Hating Girl is nothing special, there's no real plot (aside from the question how the hell did she get an arrow in her head), but it's charming and cute, for that I give it a 7.5. Give it a read, you might find you like it.

To be completely honest, I decided not to read the entire story, but skip to the end after I had gotten about halfway through. Personally I thought the story was great, it is very unique and heart-felt dealing with some pretty serious and very realistic issues (well to a certain extent that is) that can trouble people. The slow but steady love between the characters was somewhat believable. It had the potential and the passion that a romance story needs, but in my opinion there were three major flaws that really prevented me from truly loving the story. First would be the artwork, it's not that it is bad, but that all the characters other then the two main are drawn so poorly that it makes me want to barf. I know it is meant to enforce you to grow attached to the main characters but it just doesn't add enough depth to the story. Second was that the story was too long and the chapters too short. Really prevented you from getting into the story, and having each chapter be a different subject made it seem like it just dragged on forever, without any real flow happening. Finally and by far my biggest complaint, would be the misunderstandings. They happen extremely frequently throughout the story and act as the greatest antagonist of the entire story. It essentially prevented the love between the main characters, as well as supposedly adding some comedy to the mix (But I never really saw it as very funny). The character love could have seemed a bit more realistic if it wasn't for all the misunderstandings and, if it was shortened, this has the potential to be a good story. Though I skipped most of the middle of the story, I don't feel that I missed much. So I would recommend this as a free-time read, maybe to relax you a bit, but its not meant for the serious romance types. I may finish this story someday, but can't see myself doing it in the near future, seemed like I really had to force myself to read each chapters and only truely appreciated it after I had read the ending. I would say that after about chapter 20 things just get dull, at least until the final 5-10 chapters that is where the love actually starts happening. Many manga nowadays have very elaborate plots and are presented in a way that although unrealistic is argueably believable, many manga contain ideas that can change your view of the world or make your jaw drop in awe. Usually this is to avoid cliches, but it's used so much it may as well be a cliche This... well to be blunt, this doesn't come ANYWHERE close. And guess what, that's what makes this such a great story.

This manga both avoids cliches while staying plainly ordinary and realistic. Pretty much everything in this manga is normal except the heroine, and aside from the arrow in her head she too is pretty ordinary. It's very lighthearted much like a normal highschool and the few moments of drama are hard to take very seriously. You just don't get manga that's this plain. It has comedy, ecchi, romance, and a splash of drama all taken lightly.

The art is ordinary, which is actually pretty rare, just like the story. It is tolerable and homely. It's not overly flashy, too realistic or too unrealistic and fits well with the mood of the story.

A great manga to read when your bored. It's not something that you can't put down, so it's easy to stop at the end of a chapter and continue your normal life. It's not for everyone and many would find it boring or weird, but if your tried of over the top manga and cliches this is a very nice story to read.

This is not really completely scanlated, since extras 9&10 cannot be found nowhere (I wanna know what happens with Louis XIV!!!!).
Nice story, regular art, one of the best endings I ever read... What more could I say?

The art is okay and not much happens plot wise, but the characters are endearing and cute. It also helps that it is complete and so you can read through it without any delays. Pretty soon, you'll mostly forget about the arrow and care about how the relationship develops, which is also what happens to the characters. If you focus on the progress of the relationship, then the uneventful ending is fitting.

Truth be told, this was one of the first mangas I started reading. Years later, I finally finished it, and all I can say is "meh". It's not really funny, the art isn't good, but it's definately unique.

This is not a ground-breaking series. This isn't going to change your world-view or make your jaw drop. If I look at it objectively there's nothing extraordinary about it. But when I read it, I couldn't stop smiling. I even laughed a few times. It has a certain innocent charm to it (even when it takes its occasional dip into perversion) and I still remember it fondly, even if I doubt I'll ever reread it.

You could do a lot worse. You'll enjoy it as long as you don't set impossible standards for it.

Surprising about of people are saying it is. The art work isn't great but it stops mattering after you find yourself enjoying it.

It's both funny and poignant. It's comedy is quirky. The heroine likeable. There is one ecchi/naughty thing that happens that really surprised me. But aside from that, their kids that start off as friends. It really doesn't seem like a romance at first. which the author states. It makes the evolution into a relationship pretty believable.

As some have stated here, this manga is nothing impressive. The art is sub-par, and there is nothing that struck me as memorable. However, that's all beside the point. Some stories are meant to be just that: touching, heartwarming but unspectacular.

A Hating Girl is light in all aspects: its humor, its story, its romance, and even its ecchi moments will all give you a warm cuddly feeling inside. I enjoyed reading through it very much. After all, it is the experience that counts, and this is one manga that will definitely leave a smile on your face afterwards. As for me, it had me smiling right from the get-go, and the whole way right up until the end.

A Hating Girl is a great read that'll lift your spirits.
