Description
From Storm in Heaven: Soko starts feeling sick soon after moving to a new city, apparently for no reason. As beautiful as she is, a lot of guys start to bother her, especially Kashi. While trying to rape her, Kashi disappears and after a few days another guy shows up pretending to be Kashi. And everyone but Soko believes him!
He tells her he is Akira the Byakko, from the family of the West. Because she is the reincarnation of Souryo, the queen of the Oni from the family of the East, a monster that eats humans to stay alive, he must destroy her and erase her genes from Earth. He is the only one who can kill her and the one that must do so. Soko is desperate. Is she really a monster? Why does she have human memories? Why does she have to die? Will she be able to change her destiny and stay alive?
decided to read it coz she wrote/drew one of my fave mangas of all time (Red River)!!, but i just wasnt excited about this one as much as red river and i should i reread at least 10x now!!
I liked the story it's unusual and I think the concept is original. The story is entertaining until the end. The manga has the potential to be better than Red River if it had more volumes. Overall a good read manga with a lot of twists.
The basic story isn't bad, and even the art, as old as it is, I find it quite beautiful. But damn, everything is so damn sad and angsty, nothing goes right, some scenes are really disturbing, and at the same time it's boring like the drama will never end. I'm commenting while I'm really, but I want it to end already. As I already said It's good, but for me it also feels flat, and although the pacing is good nothing ever changes.
Edit: I finally finished it, yay. Although it had a happy ending, it felt kinda forced and I didn't really liked it. It could have gone in so many other directions and this one wasn't the best. Well maybe I'm a little too demanding, since I can't help comparing it with Anatolia Story which is a gem.
I really love this story but would have liked it better if Soko had stuck with her original plan to *spoiler* sleep with the oni. It just seems more realistic instead of the whole "everyone gets a happy ending." It would also make me respect her more since she's sticking to her words and taking responsibility. It just doesn't seem fair that after she tells everyone else to go to sleep that she gets to escape that fate. Also, Mamiko, the little kid oni, is waiting for her too. I also really liked Takao towards the end. I wonder if he'll end up marrying Hiko since he loves her and that's how they "keep the blood pure," which is a tradition since long ago. I feel sorry for Takao though. After all his hard work, Soko doesn't recover her memories like Hiko and he doesn't get the woman he loved back.
I'm not sure what to think of this story.The art is stunningly beautiful,and the plot is really great.But even though I'm satisfied with the end,I didn't like some aspects of this manga.It's a real shoujou,but not that great.
soko is so stupid i mean at first u can forgive her 4 not understanding everything. i read the firsst 4 volume n stop reading it cuz that main girl character is just whiny and annoying very annoying she always blaming others. this manga is not worth my time.
original and interesting storyline (which is like so hard to find nowadays with shojo). only pet peeve is the main female character who tends to be whiny and over-obssessive, but otherwise great read
I'm not a fan of Chie Shinohara, but I must admit that this one is pretty good! Clever and lovely artstyle, and a very gripping, breath-taking yet sexy plot. The main chars are likable.
Shinohara is extremely skillful when it comes to supernatural power and horror theme. (And romance still finds a way XD)
Well, I intened to put a warning in the Description but on second thought, I put it here. For those who're chicken-hearted like me please be carefull when reading this manga (and any other mangas of Shinohara-sensei, since she's famous for her horror mangas. Well, Anatolia Story is an exception). There're blood and cannibalistic scenes all over the manga. I was really shocked when seeing those scenes. I mean, not the vitality absorb eating-style like Soko but the man-eating style of the oni, they really eat human's meat (blw). When Soko was forced to eat human and make oni, then after 3 months, she created a bunch of human-eating oni, I did really want to throw up. If there're no "horror" scenes like I said, I would rate this manga 9, but...
