From Psycho Pandas:

"I have something I don't want to loseó
So much so that these terrible feelings have grown."

A pianist who attempted suicide 3 times, Juri, is taken to help her aunt at a prison where murderers who killed indiscriminately are sentenced to death. There, she meets a man named Yuu who took the lives of 3 people. A mother's antagonism--a brother's death... Together they embrace the violent rebellion in their hearts caused by the large, deep scars they carry. However, before long, they both embrace an earnest hope in their hearts. "I want to live..."

An adaptation of a novel by South Korea's most popular female novelist, Gong Ji-Young.

Couldn't Hold Back the Tears!

I came across this manga without reading any of the reviews first, so I didn't know the ending. I honestly thought it would be typical romance where it's all "happily ever after" in the end, but I was completely wrong. I have never cried so much at a manga in my life. It was absolutely heart wretching, but an absolute fantastic read. The mangaka managed to portray the prisoner character perfectly so you detested, loved and then cried over him along with the main female lead. After reading it the first time and knowing his story, I instantly re-read the manga again. Just because you know the ending, doesn't mean you won't cry again. A manga that I will always remember. I would definitely recommend 10/10, but get your tissues ready!

at first i was very skeptic because i didnt know what y'all are talking about.. some tear jerker? i couldnt see it really in the first chapter. the characters didnt seem lovable or pitiful to me but come the third chapters and so on. oh god. i started having this grabby hands feeling like i dont want to turn the page. im feeling the uncertainty as well. i know that this one doesnt have a happy ending, well, i know what ive signed up for but i didnt know that it's gonna be this good! i need to get a hold of myself because im sobbing in front of my laptop. this is is so deep and beautiful and it could still be golden even without the romance, just from the philosophy stuff, it's already awesome.

It's hard to sympathize with any criminal that has done harm to others without a second thought... But it goes to show we don't know everything that we judge about on the surface.. Very realistically tragic story.. Yet very beautiful. The artistry was very ugly/beautiful. It reminds me of Soul Eater. Which I love !
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
it starts with a woman that tries to kill herself.. With no sympathy from her cold hearted mother she gets out of the hospital.. Her nun auntie is a big part of her life and convinces her to go with her to talk to one of the inmates at a jail... On the flip side there is an inmate hhst has killed a woman and child as well as a man all in one go.. He is jailed on death row.. It shows the story of him prostituting himself to old ladies to get money for him and his brother. In their meeting it didn't go so well.. But she peaks his interest when he realized that she was he famous pianist girl that he watched play the piano before.. She was also convinced by her aunt to go again to see him.. By this time she almost killed her mother over an once deny that happened when she was younger hhst she never forgave her for.. Her piano tutor raped and beat her!! She ends up at the jail and talks to him about it.. Slowly they needed up getting along very well.. Every Thursday they would talk all the time.. And then he started to write to her as well. He then finally tells her the true story.. That the man he killed was paying money to street people to murder and harm other people and he orphan boy he took in ended up being killed in one of those ways... In his dispare he sees he man and knew it was his flight that killed the boy and in a rage he took the umbrella from the woman next to him and stabbed the guy in the head with it.. What he didn't know is that when he did that he accidentally pushed the woman holding the child and hey fell onto the train track.. And by the time he looked it was too late they were ran over by the train. So that was the true story but he was still willing to die for whatever turn the public thought. It wasn't as though anyone would believe him anyway.. From then on she started to change aswell for the better... They end up falling deeply for eavhother but it was obviously bitter sweet. A week before his birthday he was to be out to death.. His birthday wish was for her to play the piano one more time for him because she stopped after that incident... So while he was walking to his death.. The kind hearted man that guarded him invited her to play with him one more time... With that they parted ways.

I don't like tragedies.I don't like how pitiful the story makes their characters to be. But this one is different. The characters feel alive. Despite the tragedy, we see this understanding of grace and the bond that ties the characters together.
The story is simple but unforgettable.

Unique art and brilliant story. I can't believe that I only found this recently. I expected it to be tragic but I can't believe I cried(kind of). It was a first. And the subtle romance was unlike any other. I greatly recommend it. 10/10

At first, I just read this because someone said it's heart wrenching like the other one shot made by the same artist, so I tried reading this not expecting anything about the story. But first chapter.. up until the last, they were all bittersweet and heartbreaking. The realistic taste involved had become unbearable, but professionally done.

I CRIED. Couldn't hold the tears any longer, I was at least expecting they can escape their fates.. two broken people met, and their lives and beliefs were changed. I can give the story and art 10/10. Especially the story, because it was a masterpiece and a hidden jewel.

Stories like that wasn't really my cup of tea, but it was just brilliant. Even if the romance is subtle I can feel their emotions, their pain and needs. Their love is purely platonic. And the ending.. was just tragically beautiful. Argh I love it D:

A unique but simple story that will break your heart from the first chapter through out the last one. I usually don't give out 10/10 ratings, but this one definitely deserves it. This manga will always be somewhere in my heart. It's worth a try, just read it.

Juri and Yuu are both interesting and relatable as protagonists in the story.
You really feel the pain and hurt of them both and really are rooting for them.
The romance in the story is subtle and nice built up, which works to the mangas advantage.
The artwork is unique which only, again, adds to the manga.
I cried like a baby at the end, though I wouldn't say that it will make absolutely everyone cry, but for the most part, it will remain with you for some time.
Really awesome manga that is effective, memorable, heartbreaking and interesting.
