Every 100 years, 100 demon children are sent to Earth to compete in a battle to become king of the Demon World. Each demon is paired with a human partner who is given a spell book of a specific color. The human can cast the demon's spells through their book. If a demon's book is burned, they disappear and return to the Demon World. The last demon remaining becomes the king. The show is oriented around Gash Bell and his human partner, Takamine Kiyomaro.
Won the 48th Shogakukan Manga Award in the Shounen category.

Great Great Great!
Best combination of comedy and action ever. The story is unique, the characters are memorable, the battling is just superb. It is so well balanced and interesting that I could not put it down. I love that unlike most stories this one focuses on the dynamics of relationships between two people. Well people and their mamodo anyways. It really is about friendship in the most basic level and not the cheesy kind like some other mangas that I won't mention.
7 years later...
So, Voltron again comes on tv and it reminds of this manga (because of that toy Takamine makes for Gash xD [though the toy is called Vulcan >.>]) and I just start laughing to myself. This series was freaking hilarious AND had great action/plot. The more observant amongst you may realise that the series wasn't complete back in '06. Truth is, during the 9 month gap between scanlations in '06 and '07 I'd forgotten about this series (or maybe it was the next gap). When it finished a few years later I planned to re-read it from the start but that didn't happen for some reason. From the 15 or 23 or so volumes that I DID read (and what I know of the end) I think I'm perfectly within my rights to spread word of this series' greatness. It was so fun. So hilarious. The action scenes had absolutely no ass-pulls (except maybe the second last fight in the series, it seems). Even the little romance, I remember, was hilarious like in 'Nyan Koi!': "They share a secret only the two of them know about!?" xD
I find that even though the art is not exactly beautiful, it actually helps to deliver a hilarious feel (especially when purposely drawn hideously xD) I found myself cracking up because of how weird the art was intentionally drawn (crazy bulging eyes).
Honestly, I have no idea if I'm just emotional this week, but I found myself mentally sobbing at some scenes (and actually tearing up during the entire Faudo arc) and then just going crazy with laughter at others. It's a really great series that I heard of when I was very little but never actually got into until recently.

New Update, Gaiden: Freind
Zatch Bell was updated...not really. It was a One shot of Zatch Being King in the Mamodo world. it was nice to see new content of Zatch, and to see that he hadn't changed. I just found out about it...wish someone had told me sooner for I could've actually joined in the forum discussions about Zatch Bell ><
Overall this managa was a great read enjoyable with awsomely drawn effects and so on. I felt that the manga should have ending with the fido arc however. Everything would have fit into a perfect little circle leaving no questions unanswered and bringing all plots to a close. But no....there is the introduction of a demon called clear who for all purposes felt like something stuck on with stickytape to keep the manga going.
These is still 1 more volume left to read so i cant give my final verdict but it felt as if it shoulda ended a while ago. Its like eating something till your hearts content...but you have a few more mouthfuls just cause it tastes good. But it ends up making you feel sick. Shoulda quit while you were ahead lol.
Don't Burn the Books
I was so hooked on this manga that i practically read volumes 1-32 in 2 days. (I originally stopped at volume 21, but i let the scanlators catch up. This manga is so good that i had to start it over again). I was just so engrossed and it pains me whenever a book is burned, but it had to happen since someone has to become the King of the demon world. But I didn't think that it would had hit me that hard whenever a book was burned. You end up falling in love with these crazy demon kids.

i love this series! the characters are awsome, a good story line, great action, i am pretty much satisfied, and lets not forget it has great humor as well, i say it deserves to have the same ratings as Bleach or Naruto
I really like this manga. I've heard some people don't like it because of the art. I can't really find any complaints with the story besides the fact that it's a somewhat typical shonen. But what really does it for me is the comedy, most importantly, the facial expressions on the characters. They make me laugh just thinking about them. It's pretty much been said in other comments, but this manga is great. OoO
An amazing read.
From the moment you pick it up it just hooks you. Time flies by incredibly fast due to the quick and hilariously told plot. Characters are great and the battles never lose your interest. I've read this over twice (though not to the end) just because it's that good. To date I've only read only 2-3 mangas twice.
Had a tiring day, please excuse me if I sound disjointed!
I'm at volume 22, and it has been a very enjoyable read so far! Great story, with lots of funny moments to boot. I absolutely love the mangaka's sense of humor. He never fails to bring a smile to my face
I am in love with most of the characters, especially Kiyomaro. (I have a soft spot for smartass dudes *cough*L*cough*).
Well it's not perfect, but I enjoy the story enough to overlook that. My only major complaint is the character of Megumi. She's kind of a Mary Sue :/
Otherwise Konjiki no Gash Bell is a pretty awesome manga. I would say it's as good as the more popular shounen mangas. It may not be every shounen fan's cup of tea, but people should definitely check it out nonetheless!
