Let down

As a fan of Kaishaku's previous work, Steel Angel Kurumi, I was excited to give another one of their works a read, and sadly, Kannazuki no Miko comes nowhere near as close to capturing the same magic as their previous work. The art is well done, but aside from that, it doesn't do too much else. Throwing romance, yuri, mech battles, mythology and fanservice at the wall and seeing what comes of it is the impression I got from this series. The love interest had potential, but just felt random and forced as the story progressed. The plot moves all over the place and doesn't give you any time to enjoy the characters or learn more about them. Hopefully the next manga I pick up from them doesn't let me down. I wouldn't recommend this series, it tries too many things at once and doesn't deliver on anything except the artwork.

manga was heaps more disappointing than the anime version

For series that have completed in both the manga and anime versions, I would usually go for the anime version before going through the manga, (because I always feel that the original work in the manga is better, and it's always nice to leave the best for the last). But this time, somehow I decided to go for the manga first, and I'm glad I did. Because the plot in the manga was pretty scattered towards the end, (the anime boasted a more solid plot and character builds), so if I started on the anime not expecting much of it, and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't as bad as the manga. If I had done it the other way round, I would be so much more disappointed with the manga.

Then again, you know what? Maybe I'm just sulking like a kid because it's only two volumes' length... NOT ENOUGHHHH!!!

This manga rocks,
but the Ending is kind of sad,
Poor Chikane-chan...the art 20 and story 20 and charaters 20,
Mecha is good and Yuri is awsome =3 i enjoy Kannazuki no Miko

Best Yuri Ever!

Ok I’ll give it to you this manga is a bit everywhere but it’s the best yuri I have read. Everything I have read you can see the ending from a mile away and all your hoping for is that they make the store interesting along the way. But in this one every time I though I had it figured out they pulled a plot twist I never saw coming. The whole time I was sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happen next Now I will admit I saw the anime before the I read the manga so I kinda knew what was going on without a lot of explanation. And I have read here that others got a little lost when the just read the manga but I never did. So I think watching the anime may fill in the gaps. But the anime and manga does differ so if you read the manga 1st it won’t spoil the anime and vise versa. smile

Not Really.

I had a hell of a hard time following what the hell was going on here. It was very confusing. It seemed to expect you to know things before hand. It just pulls Mecha out of nowhere, as well as a much of random Supernatural mythology stuff, and finally ends with Yuri/Shoujo Ai...
I was just asking myself what was going on throughout most of it. The Mechas seemed pretty completely random and arbitrary. The back story behind the entire plot itself seemed to exist yet is never explained in great enough detail.
It was not worth my time anyways. I'd like to say the artwork was pretty good though, and the main girls were smokin'. That is all.

Not perfect, but good enough

This manga has one serious flaw, and that is how much stuff is crammed in so little space. The author really should have taken things more slowly and spread the content in about two times as many pages, or perhaps just cut off some things altogether. If it's about cutting stuff, I'd have taken out the mechas, since:

a) they add nothing to the plot (could have done the same thing using just the orochi enemies)
b) their designs aren't really good, so why bother?
c) their fight scenes are real messy and sometimes just impossible to understand

I'd also cut down the number of enemies, since most of them do nothing of importance anyways.

Having said that, the twists of the plot were great. They alone make it worth reading this manga. Without spoiling it for you, let me just say there are several minor twists and a couple of major ones. The first of these ones was a complete shocker, but once you get there, I just don't see how to stop yourself from wanting to get to the end. And all I'll say about the ending is that I just love stories that go all out like this without relying on the same tired old cliches. It was completely unpredictable and just great, one of those endings that I won't be forgetting any time soon, and for all the good reasons.

Very heartwarming, one of my favourite shoujo-ai manga's. It's a must read for shoujo-ai fans. ~^_^~ I have to admit, i hate most of the mecha. *smiles* buuut it's all worth it for the precious love at the end.

The mechas look like boring and uncreative. The fight scenes between them you can't even tell what the hell's going on because it's just like a pile of scrap. The plot is stupid, the love connection makes no sense, and the building of it is nonexistant. It's really lame.

Better than the anime I think

I read the manga before watching the anime and I like it much more (I don't go out of my way to say that most of the time). They are quite different and I MUCH prefer the manga. The ending is like totally different (and better)...as are other parts. The artwork is great and was the initial thing that attracted me to it. Giant robots and hot yuri is always a plus.
