Description
Vampires exist. It is the duty of Hellsing, an organization sponsored by the British government, to hide that frightening fact and protect the blissfully unaware populace. Along with its own personal army, Hellsing also has a few secret weapons. Alucard, an incredibly powerful vampire, has been controlled by Hellsing for years. Although he dislikes being a servant to the Hellsing family, he certainly enjoys his job as Hellsings vampire exterminator. Seras is a fledgling vampire and a former police woman. Although reluctant to embrace her new self, she is still a valuable member of the organization. Integra Hellsing, the current leader, is usually fully capable of fulfilling her duty, but lately, vampire activity has been on the rise. Unfortunately, the cause is more alarming than anything she could have imagined. A group long thought dead has been plotting in secret since their apparent destruction over 50 years ago. Plotting to plunge England, and perhaps the entire world, into war.

What power means..

Honestly this story is a showoff of the unlimited powers of count Vlad the Dracula a.k.a. Alucard. Filled with gore this story might seem initially to another one of those mindless killing machine mangas; but pray don't stop reading it. This manga is much more than blood and gore. Each character has his/her respectable awesomeness. and then there is Alucard awesomeness hovering above all. This story has one of the most amazing villains I've seen. And also the most amazing ending I've seen.

And not station character development is also seen diligently by the author.

It is advised to read the prequel to the story as well (hellsing: the dawn) to understand the origins of the Major.

When its sheer power that's concerned, ppl talk about dbz. well funk dbz, Alucard will pwn you anywhere anytime.

I'd definitely suggest you to read this manga. go for it.

Bloody, Disturbing, Brilliant

This is probably the best manga I've ever red. While the main story doesn't kick of until volume 3, the humor, art and gory dismemberment of bodies make this a must read if you don't mind tons of blood, gore and swear words.

Alucard

The story isn't the most interesting out there, nor the most complex and the fights are somehow predictable. The dialogs can be confusing sometimes (don't know if it's because of the translation or they didn't make sense in japanese either). However, what makes this manga really entertaining is the main character, Alucard. There are so many mangas, animes, movies and books that portray vampires as something else other than the monsters they are. This manga truly captures the real nature of the vampire. Alucard is ruthless and, cruel, truly enjoys killing, torturing and humiliating his opponents. He is proud and arrogant, treats almost everybody as inferior beings, however, he is also fascinated by humans. He's a very complex character and as his story unfolds you can't help but like him.

The Best Vampires

When I tell people about this series, they are putt off by the idea of vampires, thinking of the girly shojo-type. However, the vampires in this manga are brutal, monstrous, insane, and refreshing. There is also the religious fanaticism of a Catholic Holy Army, and the political fanaticism of an army of Nazi Vampires. You just gotta love it.

One of the Best Seinen I've Ever Seen

I think the plot was very original (shame too many people can't see it) and as a seinen fan, Hellsing truly satisfies you with the action, blood, and gore. I like how Hirano rewrites the daily definition of the "vampire" into something unique and creative (despite how lazy he can be) and overall I think the manga is awesome. This is not for tards and shojo fans of course.

The story was absolute nonsense. This is a 100% action manga with zero character development or depth of any kind. It had a huge potential to be great but it seems like the author just didn't give a crap.

Maybe a bit too much violence...

I genuinely enjoyed the series though. My favorite characters are easily Integra Hellsing and Alucard (ahh... good old bram stoker references), one of my favorite things about this manga is its use of literary and historical referencing. I probably would have preferred it if they had focused more on the character development, as opposed to the gratis violence, but other than that I really loved this series. The Nazi regime attack didn't seem all that plausible to me, merely because I can't imagine people following a crazy nutcase like that without his putting more effort into convincing them to fight with him. People followed Hitler because they thought he'd save Germany from its powerlessness and its economic slump, not because he told them he loved war and violence as this villian does. The whole Nazi arch was a bit too much for me and the violence became so frequent I almost became bored by it. I liked the ending though. The art was very good, but I got kind of tired of reading five or six pages in a row with nothing but violence and sfx. Like I said though, all around good series with awesome characters.

Very shallow
Rating: 1.0 / 10.0
by nhanqt

This manga is very shallow. I mean shallow as in there is no meaning at all whatsoever. People kill and appear very cool, very powerful, very confident. Then they get killed by others who appear stronger, more confident, cooler, have some secret moves or power. Then these people get killed again by some better people and on and on and on. Groups are formed out of nowhere and fight for no reasons. Organizations fight for nonsense. Regular people are completely left out of the scene. People in this manga do not fight for money, nor power, nor their beloved, nor their will to live, nor their friends, nor their parents, nor their citizens, nor their subordinates. nor even themselves... Seriously, they only fight and die because the author felt like it. Wars are raged for no reason. There is seriously no story line at all, or if you think there is, it is a very bad way of calling it a story line. A very shallow manga for people who do not think much to read. Please the author must pay me back for all the time that I wasted reading this manga.

Mindless insipid babble throughout the "climax" (the Nazi general or whatever and his speech that took a whole volume to complete) turned me off from the already-bland story of that shallow vampire fellow and his struggle to... do whatever he was doing. Don't read this if you want a fluent, didactic, inspiring read or whatever else you look for in a manga. Or any sort of entertainment medium in general.
That said, I will admit that the part at the end where he
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
transforms or whatever into Dracula
was pretty chilling. The good chilling. Any-who, if you like senseless violence and are a comparatively impressionable youth to the undertones of Nazi-influenced ramblings of an old man-- or if you're new to the whole manga thing and don't have the proper standards for a good piece of work-- then I believe you might like this. Otherwise, for the rest of us, just save yourself the trouble and move on down the list for another series.

lol to the jerk above me: its possible for more then one manga to show what it truly means to be a monster.

if violence, action, gore, war, monsters, and hardcore characters are things you like, you will automatically fall in love with this series. behind all the insane mind numbing violence, alucard has alot of depth, and your always learning something new about him, and what it truly means to be a "monster" in every sense of the word. the story has great pacing, with something interesting always happening, and progressing the story (i cant think of one thing in the series that i would change or take out). theres not much i can say without writing spoilers, ill just say that its one of the best mangas of its genre, and i cant think of anyway it could of been better.
