I Tried

I remember reading this manga all the way through back in like my freshman year of high school (so nearly five years ago now) and I remember adoring it. Reading it again now... I just can't get into it. It wasn't so bad until I read about the part where
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Asuza gets a bunch of guys together to rape the main girl. That she escaped was a relief to me, but it doesn't end there. The stupid girl doesn't report him to the police, people keep shrugging it off as "just how he his" cuz he's tortured or something like that, and she keep pitying him and trying to support him. Um, no. Report that jerk, get him in correctional facilities, and GET HIM PSYCHOLOGICAL HELP before he tries it again! He's got major damage that a little bit of sweetness from his almost-rape-victim would in no way heal in real life. It's ridiculous.
I tried to keep going from there but I kept getting bogged down. I'd read a few chapters just fine, then get annoyed with how freaking PATHETIC the main girl is. Seriously, she loves Azusa one minute, then she can't get Tachibana out of her head, and then she has major guilt and attraction for her brother... I found myself repeatedly thinking, "Make up your mind and stop letting these jerks push you around!" Seriously. This is a time-killer manga for people who can breeze over those topics without pause. For me, a lot of the plot twists were show-stoppers and not in a positive way.

I still regret reading this tasteless series when I was a young teenager and couldn't see it for the smut it was. If you're looking for a story with substance you've come to the wrong place. Though it still makes me laugh that the bizarre ending was so bad that an alternate ending light novel had to be made to save face!

I will admit that I loved this series for its plot and the chemistry between the protagonists, BUT the relationship between the two protagonists is problematic. The female lead, though kind, is too self-giving. The male lead is jealous, selfish, and demanding. He does have a slight charm - I'll give him that - BUT due to his selfish nature, he walks all over the female protagonist to the point where their relationship could be considered abusive. This feeling I got was stronger toward the end, but it ended with me saying, "Yeah, that's not a healthy relationship." And that's why I gave it a relatively low rating.

But like I said, I did enjoy reading this manga. I'd agree with the person saying that this is a good read to waste time.

The art was nice. The story however is something rather difficult to read through. There is abuse plain and simple...I don't think any young person should read this...I hope no one believes these kinds of behaviors to be acceptable and the norm.

Just finished reading this,
no genuine character development,
the story is interesting,
The art is descent,

The relationships are disturbing. (Like psychopathic only-think-of-me-and-no-one-else psychopathic). The female lead is weak willed, submissive, and cries too bloody much.

But hey, I enjoyed it. Good for wasting time.

really, some of the commenters take everything in this manga so seriously! As for me, I just found it so amusing, especially Ryoki, you gotta love the way he is bossing Hatsumi around, Hatsumi too, her remarks made me laugh outloud more than once, e.g.this one here: He's kinda down (he is not hitting me after all) LOOOOL her logic is just so…..The only downside is the ugliness of art, throughout the manga we are always told how Ryoki is handsom etc, but really, his face kept reminding me of a tortoise...

I guess I am not sure how to rate this manga.
The characters are irrational, and idiotics sometimes to the point of face-palming myself.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Why would a girl fall in love with somebody she is siper-scared about, even more after he forces her to kiss, and massage her breasts? And why does Hatsumi need to be so weak? She has no will, no courage, and just sits around and watch things happening, without understanding them because she is freaking blind to everything! (Man, I am MAD!). Then Azusa is just hoovering between being sweet and evil, which can make a charater lovable, but in this case, I think it was a fiasko. He ends up not really knowing what he wants, and not really reallising his own feelings, which makes me want to slap him. Then Shinogu is ok, the angsty character, but I guess he doesn't either have balls to really try to win Hatsu over. He started with a looser mind, so he won't ever make it. You can feel from the beginning that this won't be a sibling love-story (not that I mind in any way loves goes, as long as it's good). As for Ryoki, he is just a whacko! What a character! Haha! I just don't get the man. But somehow, he may be the most interesting one, because I guess he is the one who has the biggest character growth of the bunch (but that is still not much to say). And then, we get to finish with the side characters! The sister is a slut, but gets cutter with time going. The otaku is a looser from the beginning, and is a weakling getting bullied into a relationship. And we have no idea what's going on with the room mate of Shinogu. He seems to like both sisters, but nothing is followed up...

Wow, I had a lot to say about this manga's characters! oops!

But Somehow, even with all these flaws, I kept reading. I think what the story got right, and that made this manga alive, was the depiction of the life in a small housing like that. The mentality depicted here was perfectly village-like, where everything is looked at and amplified five times. You gotta love the house wives! Haha!! I found the feeling connected to that very well depicted, and well played on, and that's why I think I ended up reading the whole series.

Argh! So I guess this was a waste of time, but I don't feel bad about it. So somehow, the mangaka got something right? I guess I was too stubborn to stop reading, excepting an epiphany on the characters' personnalities somewhere... Maybe that some balls would grows on Hatsumi, and she would begging to give divine retribution to all the jackasses she is surrounded by!!

Aah, Hot Gimmick. This is one of the first shoujo manga I've ever read, and probably the first to have disappointed me to the point of dropping it.

The first few volumes were interesting, but the cliche-ridden melodrama just dragged my interest down. The MC was so frustrating, and I can never bring myself to think that Ryoki might change for good and be a better person and actually deserve having a girlfriend.

I suggest that if you really want to read it, prepare something that will put your mood up afterwards.

Alright so honestly I'm one of those people that has to finish things.. but honestly it was just too hard for me. The story really wasn't done well at all. The main girl was just to ugh..
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I am pretty sure she is a masochist with battered women syndrome. The author could have done something to make her better. ANYTHING would have made her better.

Its supposed to be a reverse harem with, with those guys liking her and what not, but the choices are absolutely terrible.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The first guy Azusa (her best friend from when she was little) tried to have her gang raped, while it didn't happen because his manager saved her, she still sympathizes with him and what hes going through trying to help him. Call me weird but if a guy tried to have me gang raped i wouldn't want anything to do with him.
The second guy Ryoki (guy who pushed her down a flight of stairs when she was young) mentally and physically abuses her. With her she gives on the battered women syndrome where everything is her fault.
The third guy Shinogu (her adoptive brother) While i can agree that a relationship can work if you aren't blood related the author clearly didn't want her to end up with this guy. I mean who could really be with someone they thought was there blood there whole life, that would just be a weird feeling.

She is the worst female lead ever, i have read manga's where the female character was a cry baby and stupid that weren't all that bad, but this girl takes the cake. I've seen someone say that she was just trying to be nice. That makes me laugh, there is a difference between being nice and just being idiotic.
As for the art its pretty bad, seen worse but this would be on my top 5 for worst art. The faces tend to be uneven at times and it just looks bad. It's just really awkward. I mean some scenes are nice but the art wasn't in the least bit interesting for me.
All in All i would say i wasted my time with this, even if i didn't get though all if it. I got untill chapter 34. From other reviews i have read nothing changes, and certainly doesn't get any better.
