The story of Drifters takes place during Japan's Sengoku period (roughly 15th to 17th century), a time of constant warring between the island's states, and a natural setting of choice for samurai stories. A young samurai on verge of death suddenly finds himself into another, fantastic world, alongside important military figures from history. How? Why? These questions remain unanswered.

WHO RUNS THIS MOTHER?
This is a history nerd's true heaven. Not only that, but for people, like me, who aren't as "educated" or "into" history as some, this will be enjoyable. Honestly, I enjoyed a lot of the references and jokes in here. It's seriously interesting, and I love the way the author integrated the character's past and habits in their plans/ideas. Amazing. 10/10 would recommend.
Epic Heroes Carnival
Yeah, in short this manga is the stage to show how epic of each hero based on their era. Epic, is for sure. Bloody battle in samurai style is everywhere around the mc.
In brief, enthralling epic bloody heroes stories... I'll give a ten
Edit: @silentanime... the hell?!! U maybe right?! After looking at his hands, maybe u got that right... very very very extreme character to be pulled of...

Time warp fantasy fusion type stories are always great, and Drifters is definately top class so far. The humor, action and plot are all quite excellent.
For those that may be interested in a similar yet equally interesting manga, I highly recommend "Gate".
PS: Nobunaga is a total boss in this series. Between him and the main protagonist the lulz just don't stop

The MC is just another Monkey D. Luffy in another surreal world...
And that's why I love it!! the earlier chapters (just like some people below me say) are a bit weird to begin with, but after reading few more chapters you'll understand why the plot made like that. If you are a fan of history in general, I'm sure you'll lovin' it, since in the further chapters there'll some more surprises for you. And yeah, this is not your usual samurai story in sengoku era. IT IS MORE THAN THAT.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
After reading chapter 33, it makes me want to shout like: "Hey... Isn't that means the Black King is Jesus Christ?!" Well, since he was died in angst just like the other "ends", It does make sense. But hell, only the Japanese dare to put something like this in their works that openly.

Awesome Hirano is awesome.
Like people before have posted this is such an awesome manga. I don't about the others but when I was new to this series every chapter send chills down my spine like the kind you get when riding a roller coaster. The battle scenes are good but I prefer the personality and the facial expressions that the characters make. After reaching the latest chapter you would be pissed at Hirano for making this a monthly release.
Made me want to learn stuff
This is an intersting manga thanks to that many of the characters are actual persons that have existed. By puting them in an altenativ univers was intresting and really fun, it made me want to know more about the different historical people introdused in the series.

Not for everyone
This is the kind of series where people complain about the violence. I can only reply that violence has it own demographic lol. If you can't take it then don't read it but that doesn't make the manga any inferior. Awesome series for people that love blood, fantasy and action. Brilliant! As lazy as Hirano is...he does draw good stuff
Mix of many japanese warrior
well it seems confusing in first 3 chapter but after then it starting getting interesting it like a world that many japanese warrior make a party vs warrior across from another country
nice concept and development really worth each chapter (after chapter 3 )
this is an amazing read, the first several chapters are a bit slow but later chapters are where the characters and story really get interesting. the pacing is fast, action scenes get really bloody and brutal. what i like most is the insanity, cruelty and intelligence of the characters. the fantasy setting also doesn't hurt as well. give it a chance and you won't regret it.
Amazing concept and characters
I find the whole alternate world with the historical heroes a very interesting concept. Gotta love Toyohisa, his personality is wonderful and even more so as the story progresses. Looking forward to how the story is gonna develop further.
