Not much going on, but a pretty fun read. It's a bit of a pity that it gets stretched so badly, but the recent 100% slice of life chapters are actually also pretty fun. It's just disappointing for those expecting some good development every now and then.

SLOOOWWWWWWWW ROMANCE

one of the slowest romance mangas I've ever read, skip beat is the slowest but it doesn't focus on romance the whole time like pastel does. To top it off the manga gets updated every couple of months which sucks. Even when they start dating the relationship progresses at the speed of a snail,1 kiss every 30 chapters or so,hold hands occasionally. I honestly think a slice of life ecchi manga is a better description not a slice of life romance. Even after all my complaining all admit i still do like this manga, particularly the art. but I'm slowly losing interest over time. If you like a slow shounen romance story, and are tired of the cliched shoujo romance stories read this.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
28 vols and ongoing?!
Really?!
I just came to this manga again to find it's not over yet...it's really frustrating.
So i adjusted my rating. To think i gave this a 6.5, man what was i thinking?
At first glance and after reading the first chapters this manga is cute, the art looks nice, it looks like plenty of other manga out there. Boy was i fooled.
It takes forever for Mugi to grow a pair. That usually happens in manga like this, but it's just not...man i can't believe it. It's absolutely ridiculous how the main characters behave. It may be funny at first but i just had to skip a bunch of chapters to see him end the chase and then what happens? Nothing.
Nothing happens at all despite every single character pushing them to be more assertive about their feelings. No man would live so long with his girlfriend without nothing happening, no matter how innocent or inexperienced he may be. So yeah Mugi keeps on being a wuss, a wimp, a coward. Make no mistake that's what he is.
The story has no flow whatsoever, just a bunch of moments thrown in hoping that somehow they connect. Some of the characters are extremely annoying and there is no way, no way in hell, a weakling like Mugi would attract so many suitors. I think at some point a line has to be made, it's nowhere near realistic, not even by manga status.
It just seems the mangaka wants to keep making money and forgeting the meaning of standards. Let's take a good look at how a volume develops for example. The main chars are living their lives, and suddenly bam! a new character pops out of nowhere to talk to Mugi for example. This new char is obviously a girl and if she's not into Mugi she wants Yuu and Mugi together so she just makes a bunch of tricks to see them together or doing ecchi stuff. But Mugi and Yuu are made of stone and even if they get into those situations nothing happens. Afterwards that character leaves and it's like nothing ever happened, they just smile say goodbye to the char and go on with their lives.
How can that still happen at this point in the story?
Just what is the purpose of this?
Seriously?
It's not romance, it's not slice of life, it's not comedy.
And let's not forget all the fanservice going on. To be sick of seeing fanservice and being male...i didn't think it would be possible. It feels like Mugi is content with dreaming of stuff. I don't think people want to see imaginary panty shots in manga.
If the characters were broken or had been through troublesome childhoods or experiences and didn't know how to connect or had trouble with their feelings i would understand, taking it slow would be the way to go but that's just not the case here.
All in all it's just not good enough, it gets barely mediocre.
If you want to get this frustrated with a manga and rant angrily about something that should be enjoyable but is terrible then go on ahead and read it, but i won't recommend it, except if you pay me to do so or if i'm in a saddistic mood.

I couldn't wait for more Pastel, it was great... then somewhere around volume 16 or so... I started to really grow weary of how little progress was being made. Eventually I got to the point where I just skimmed chapters looking for the little to no progress in them, and ultimately... I have just stopped caring. The art was once charming... but now it's just annoying, and the characters were... well... in retrospect, the characters aren't all that great to begin with.
If you want a really good romance... go read I''s or something. This one will only disappoint you.

Hidden under the great art is a complete lack of story progression and ultimately, disappointment

This series seems like it will never end...and that isn't a good thing. So little happens in each volume, which I would be understanding if it wasn't the same little progress in each volume. Slice of life doesn't mean you repeat the same storyline over and over and over again. Slow romance pops up for this, but it doesn't really feel like anything happens. I will wait until this is over and read the final volume. Considering I stopped after 20th volume, I feel like I could skip between the 1st and last volume without missing anything really significant...

I gave this manga a 7 because while the manga started off pretty good, it started getting really boring and i mean REALLY BORING. I wont spoil to much but nothing happens after some major romantic developments, I gave it a decent review because the beginning was a decent read. Also the art manages to get worse...much worse I find it hard to look at the characters now and it's not even that the artist got lazy or something, the damn drawing style just became incredibly stupid. W.e though 7 for decent start.

The manga, so far, has been one of my favorite of romance shounen due to its honest and calm atmosphere of the story. The characters are well built and the drawings are quite something, but agreeing with some people here, I think the story lacks pace while keeping the conclusion. If it's like this, the readers seem kind of forced to follow through the story without considering their real-time track, making them in waiting for the progress that is near forever to be seen. I don't compel the story to be through irresponsibly, but adding more characters at this point is, harshly speaking, pointless. What is the point of adding a foreigner into the circle when it's clearly the time for Yuu and Mugi alone, except that there's some kind of intention of pulling out some fanservice? Are we going to see Yuu and Mugi get married? To me, Yuu seems to be the real antagonist here. It is not an innocence of lovers anymore, it is already an ignorance, irresponsible manner to the relationship. Some might see this as obstruction to get through; some, just like me, are getting impatient.

Pastel was good when it began. However, due to the slow releases and lack of drama, I'm getting really bored. Maybe others will enjoy the atmosphere of Pastel, and how lighthearted it is, and the insightful moments, but it is really dragging on, and it is weak. This series is more suitable to read right before going to bed.

seriously, this series is just dragging along. I remember when it was good, but now, dealing with these slow releases and lack of any action in the chapters, i'm starting to get bored. but i can't just drop a series, unless it really pisses me off.
