Very pretty art

The art is one of the positive factors of this series, other then that nothing can be said that leaves a lasting impression on me.

I'm really surprised how high the ratings are for this considering how bland and slow the series is, I've read up to where the scanlators had stopped off and didn't bother to go back because of how unimpressive the storyline is.

I can appreciate slow story lines, but there is a point where I need to stop especially since the two leads are the least interesting characters I have read.

Amazingly enough the author has produced enough materials for eight volumes?? And continuing?? Not even the pretty art can make me stay for it.

As previously written by everyone or prewritten for those yet to come.. its pretty. Very pretty. The characters are pretty in their archetype too. The story revolves around two people falling in love and trying to make it work. As of vol 6, ch 43...its still a feeling as if you're reading a dream that's full of fluff and romanticism. It is not a read for those who can't stand romantics. Underneath the fluff though, emotions are conveyed very well and the commonality is love. Love between best friends, lovers, and family. Of course, I don't mean friends that become lovers or incest, I just mean people care and it shows.

Soft and slow paced, but not in a boring way. The protagonists are adorable and worth watching. This gentle shoujo series simply leaves you feeling happy. And the art is excellent. I have to wonder at anyone who fails to be moved by this manga.

Character/Manga bash

Is this so special only because of the art and sparkle? Most likely yes.

The female lead.
No, she's not complex.

She's dependant.

She doesn't meet her friends at the same esteem they hold for her. They have no reason to be attached, and neither does the male lead. Uh would you really devote your help to someone so self absorbed?
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
then there's a random angsty scene (with sparkles, even, as if it was such a touching scene) where her friend cries for accidentally ruining the class bowling ball thing. The main character's like "don't cry," coupled with the "I want to see her smile," line. ...Those lines don't work in your situation, especially if it was dismissed and exaggerated with such disregard after the female lead decides to say something because wow she means everything to the manga. (I'd rather they have scrapped her and tried a different premise). It's a failed attempt to prove something that's never existed, and it's plainly obvious that the objective was to add to the female lead's nonexistent character depth. The manga presents her as such a delicate character that it's sickening. Apparently just asking a simple "Are you okay?" makes her a saint (in a panel that filled 3/4 of a page coupled with sparkles). I gagged. If that was such a groundbreaking line (because she rarely speaks and that's really special that she did *sarcasm*), then how much did she value their friendship before?

And the way she treats her "love rival" is horrid. It appalls me that she thinks she has the right to view another girl's earnest efforts as annoying, "omg her love is so impure compared to mine," when in actuality her actions would be seen as borderline obsessive if not for the convenient veil of intervention that are otherwise known as her "friends". The other girl actually tries to get closer to the male lead, and approaches him on a non-superficial pretense while the female lead is just shown leeching from her friends' efforts. And how she's all angsty about how she's "a flower atop a mountain," or smth. Are you serious? You placed yourself there in the first place... not literally, but yur

And the male lead.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
His friend's all about wishing for the male lead's happiness, and I can find no reason for him to remain with him as he is other than the fact that they were simply acquainted since young. You become friends with someone who insults you at first meeting? He's not hitting on you and it's not because he's awkward or a tsundere or whatever. Look somewhere else for the dere. Even in the present the male lead is semi-abusive towards him. There's really nothing else to say about the male lead except that he's quiet. Oh, and he has glasses.

You'll probably know it's bad if the male lead can only be characterized by a supporting character who isn't even significant the majority of the time because, you know, it's all about the female and male leads. You may say that "it's because they're the leads," but the supporting characters in this manga are only made significant to fuel the interactions between the two leads because they're just that awkward. They're really just used and then thrown away, waiting in a corner until the mangaka finds some use for them again

The two leads are awkward af with each other, to the point of dysfunction. Basically all the "romance," there is are the generic lines, and simple thoughts that need not be emphasized with painfully long gaps of silence that we can really do without. There's like literally a whole chapter dedicated to them just walking home together.

To be fair, I did put up with it 'till ch. 25 or so. Worst mistake ever btw.

TL;DR
Shallow, bland and very sparkly. Read only if you care for nothing else but the art (or maybe if you have a either a tolerance of steel).

What's wrong about shy couple? I love them! Story, art, character, I love everything about this manga xD
Actually, suiren is a very strong willing girl. If you have the same complex as her, it'll be very bold of her to ask the boy she likes to watch fireworks together, to keep attacking with her own way, and it's lovable to see how she always trying hard to show her feeling to kawasumi (while kawasumi confused, stiff, and all, lol).
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
It's hillarious to see suiren ask kawasumi if she could send him home, and she did it while trembling and tearing, only to be able to spend more time with him, LOL

I love slow romance, but still I hope they'll act a biiit mooorreee lovey-dovey, haha.

Warm...

What I'll say about this manga is that this manga is warm. A very unique type of manga, not hot or cold like most other mangas. Doesn't have many or very high climaxes or events, but yet it's still interesting enough for me to keep reading. A manga that kind of give a warm sensation to heart; this type of mangas are not common, but I like them. And it is comfortable enough for anyone to read; no hard subjects, just a story of two shy boy and a girl.

"If 'Bleach' or 'Naruto' are time bombs with unpredictable plots and 'Vampire Knight' a rose with deep fragrance, this manga would be a comfortable pillow, always on your bed, never getting out of your hand."

Even hentai has more storyline than this series... And that's saying something.

Started off cute and now they're all just annoying me. It's come to a point where I don't even want to continue the series because ~*~*I'm interested in the outcome*~*~ because to be honest, I don't think this is really gonna get anywhere.

It's just mute, repetitive fluffiness. Same old shit different chapter.
Kudos for toning and art, I guess.

Personally, I'm the kind of person who really likes light hearted manga without too much (or none at all) drama. I like that they're shy and that this is their first time falling in love. It IS very slow and has a feeling of softness... So if you aren't really into these kinds of manga you definitely won't like this.

But one thing I've noticed, the main reason why I watch out for new releases like a hawk is because the endings always make me squeal at the last page of the chapter. Always. Whatever the content of the chapter, the last few pages always makes me want to continue reading.

So basically,
The characters are cute, nothing too out there (which is the main reason why I like it), and even though it's slow, it still manages to make me want to continue reading.

I don't mean to be extremely critical, but while I liked this manga at first, it very soon died out for me. The two characters are very interesting (although I have to disagree that Suiren is a strong character at all) and I enjoy their quiet nature. However, like how a previous poster has said, their quietness ultimately takes over the story and thus stagnates progress. I honestly cannot fathom their kiss scene because I don't even think they will get there at the pace they are going.

The drawings are amazing, however, and I got caught up with that most of the time. I also like pretty much all the characters except for the assumed "rival," since she pretty much has no foundation or substance to her character or her love. I mean, I don't mind a little crazy in my shoujos, but the one thing I would like to keep realistic is the character's goals, intentions, aspirations, and reasons. For the rival, however, her goals and intentions have little basis and thus makes her a pretty crappy rival, not even mentioning how stupid she can act and how she barely shows up anymore. Basically what I'm saying is that she's a very useless character and it may have been a waste of time to create her at all.

For Suiren and Kawasumi, I am more lenient to this manga mostly because of Kawasumi's character rather than Suiren's. I can see Suiren going down the path of an obsessive chick and as for Kawasumi, his only flaw is that he can be such a ditz sometimes. I mean,

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
who walks out on a freaking confession from the person you like?!

However, everything else about his character is pretty much perfect and HNNG I love megane guys so go figure. I've seriously never seen a hotter glasses guy. The one thing I agree with aetherwyn on is his character and how he realistically sees the situation. He wants to assume that Suiren likes him, but is afraid he's getting too cocky. He notices that she only talks to him, that from her standpoint she could see him perfectly in the courtyard at lunch. Still, it gets annoying

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
how many times he runs away from her and avoids her. Seriously. And Suiren even is guiding the relationship. That's totally "trying your hardest," Kawasumi!

Anyhow, this manga started out good with an interesting storyline; however, it went downhill from there. I do like Kawasumi's embarrassment and I don't know, Suiren's kind of neutral for me (we have yet to learn anything about her personality other than that she likes Kawasumi for whatever reason, and...I don't know, her hair can change lengths at her own will? Well at least her expressionless, nonchalant nature is kind of cool...but seriously, Morishita-sensei), but I think the thing that set him apart from other guys was how he didn't pay attention to her at the beginning and basically was uninterested. Then for whatever reason, he started to like her. I think the basis for this manga was weak but the good drawings cover it up. It's truly, truly a lighthearted love story as it advertises itself to be (so therefore we can't predict or expect anything like a traumatizing past or something or anything dramatic--it's safe to expect the manga to keep going at its slow, boresome pace as it is), but it seriously hits the extreme. It's a lighthearted story at its best and at its worst.
