Description
From Simple Scans:

In the Spring she was 16, Takamiya Naho receives a strange, but detailed letter from herself, ten years in the future. At first she thinks the letter is a prank, but then the things written in the letter actually happen, including the new transfer student that sits next to her in class, Naruse Kakeru.
The letter reads just like her diary entries, down to the same characters. It is not till two weeks later, when Kakeru shows back up at school, that Naho finishes the letter.

In the letter, her 27-year-old self tells her 16-year-old self that her biggest regret is that Kakeru is no longer with them in the future, and asks her to watch him closely.

Very good, but not flawless

My favorite part of this manga is the art, it is gorgeous. The story is certainly sad, though not in a hopeless way; you're always rooting for the protagonists and feel like they'll actually save Kakeru. It deals with some pretty serious themes of death, suicide, and hopelessness which really hit home for someone dealing with that kind of thing. The segments from the future reminded me a lot of the ones from Nana where the characters are looking back on their pasts but also moving on together
The main character Naho is likeable and cute but she is so incredibly dense-moreso than your average shoujo protagonist. Kakeru comes just short of telling her to her face that he likes her and she's like "Duuuuh I wonder who he's talking about?" There's really only focus on Naho, Kakeru and Suwa and while the other main characters don't feel out of place, it would have been nice to see more of them. They had unique and likeable personalities but a lot of the time it felt like they were being forced into scenes to be glorified background characters.
The story flows well and none of the chapters or scenes seem superfluous. And did I mention the art? Because it's amazing. I hope the author does more manga like this one rather than normal boring generic shoujo like they seem to have exclusively done in the past.

DAMN IT. This manga breaks me. A gem. I'm so glad I've read this. This is not your typical shoujo manga. Sure it has its cliches but, man, it tugs your heartstrings every single chapter. Kakeru just suffocates me not in a bad way but that just means that the mangaka is really good at getting these kinds of feelings across the reader. It has a similar feel to Kyou no Kira-kun but this just breaks my heart.

I'm also torn between Kakeru and Suwa though I like Suwa better (goddammityouresuchagoodguy).

One of the best shoujo ever written. All of the characters are lovable and understandable and incredibly mature for their age. It's lovely seeing how each character matures as the story progresses, and you want to root for them along the way. I read mangas simply to kill time, but this is the first manga where I actually learn something: do everything you can in the present so you won't have any regrets in the future. I know the theme is cliche, but this manga makes it powerful. Definitely recommend this manga to all audience.

pure shoujo drivel made "serious" from a mangaka who only does shoujo, expect allot of drama and the usual stupid stuff that comes with shoujo with a little mature theme like suicide cuz you know.. its seinen now.

This manga makes me smile so much. Every time something happens between Naho and Kakeru I get so happy, I can't help squealing. Although I will say this story evokes some serious heart pangs, it is totally in a good way. The art is beautiful in a unique way, and I just love. It's kind of a shoujo in disguise so if you like shoujo, read it.

Such a unique and original plot with great relatable characters. So glad its being continued because I would hate for this story to be left unfinished, as it is awesome!
But its really sad, so if you like light-hearted manga, then this isn't for you as every time I read it, I almost always end up crying ;_;. Really good and really recommend.

The repetition of regret really got to me. I was in a pre-crying phase after finishing chapter 9.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
26 year old Naho finds out Kakeru liked her the whole time and was given the flowers "from" Kakeru. TEARS! The part where Suwa's letter that said he regrets not supporting Kakeru and Naho and always seeing her cry after the funeral..MORE TEARS
. This manga has a really good plot line. Kakeru must not die. I hope the author does not quit being a mangaka and finishes this manga.

At first drawn by its beautiful drawings, I was immediately planning on reading this manga before its first release and have waited over a year and only 9 chapters out, which is pretty disappointing. This manga is a work of art and it is almost like a cross between two other very good series (which I highly recommend if you enjoy this manga in the case of the mood and the drawings/characters) Bokura ga Ita and Bokura wa Itsumo.

The story line is amazingly clever and fresh and new. I love Naho's character as she is very strong; she takes control of her situation and she is responsible, unlike the protagonist in Bokura wa Itsumo, yet she is also so gentle. The best quality about her has to be her sympathy for others and I think that is very distinguishing and strong. This is the perfect quality for someone who is motivated to
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
protect her love and her future, which I think are genuine goals!

I also enjoy these mangas with a group being the center characters and this one does the job well. I seriously have cried in every chapter and it's unfathomable how amazing the art is. It inspires me as I read; I utterly love the art style. I also can't comprehend how sexy Kakeru is, and his personality is really awe-inspiring. It's truly depressing. There are all types of literary irony going on that I think the author uses cleverly and effectively and I enjoy this manga so much (as well as the length of the chapters, wow!) and cannot get bored of it. I'm actually keeping myself from reading anymore because I don't want to wait!

The mini-antagonist was also a pretty good one too.

And, like in Bokura ga Ita, there is a central theme in which is the center and basis for the (love) story, and, like in BGI, it is of a human flaw or human tendency and in this case it is the inclination towards regret, which I feel is very powerful and relatable. This manga is amazing and I can't praise it anymore; I actually really want to buy it, if only it was in English. I'm upset that Takano-sensei wants to retire but according to Baka-Updates she will be finishing the series so I really hope so, or else I will be utterly, utterly sad. However, I waited years for BGI, and this is a manga worth waiting for, so I guess I better get ready. In the meantime, I'll be checking out her other work because she is seriously amazing. I can't find a flaw at all.

This is f-- sad! I randomly clicked the manga and now I am in tears! I am not sure what I am feeling more sad about:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Kakerus suicide or Suwa unrequited love which he knows won't be fulfilled
.. I am rooting for Suwa, but this is a complex series. I am loving it, but the mangaka has quit the manga right? :'(
