My favorite WSJ

Don't be put off by the summary, there's more to this series than you might think. While the premise sounds ridiculous, this story does get serious.

After the first chapters it seems to be a solid gag manga (which is one of it's main aspects). It's strongest points are the originality and the comedy without resorting to cliches. While it develops very slowy, there is a deeper plot behind this.
The art is good and fitting for a wsj series, as to be expected by Matsui. I picked this series up because it sounds so ridiculous but it's become my favorite wsj series by now. Try a few chapters (they're short anyway) and form your own opinion.

What's up with all those mediocre reviews? What do they expect of a manga with such a story description? Something really deep and moving? Sorry, you should move on. This is a shounen series after all...

What you see here is a perfectly well made gag manga that has a quite slow moving plot. For now read it for the comedy, later on for the actual plot. It will become more serious at some point if my prediction is right.

It is basically Great Teacher Onizuka on acid. Reminds me somewhat of Sayonara Zetsubou-Sensei in that regard.

Sure the premise is retarded, but ridiculous premises that somehow make great stories is why I read manga

Deeper than what it seems

Assassination Classroom is an excellent manga. I've noticed that its getting good to mediocre reviews due to the whole plot and details, but this manga goes much deeper than the ordinary assassination plots and school life. Assassination Classroom is not only about a bunch of low-ranking students on a mission to kill their teacher before graduation, but also how they learn to work together and explore the weaknesses of their target and teacher with each passing chapter. This manga shows the true nature and relationship of assassin and target, teacher and student. The humor inserted in this story helps keeps things interesting and gives it more of the school-life touch. Assassination Classroom grows and develops, and it will also grow on you.

Yet, it somehow doesn't seem as funny as it should be. It's quite amusing but not laugh out loud funny, which was what i was expecting from the premise.
It kinda sucks how education makes me a little ticked off when the impossible happens in manga/anime bigrazz (or, rather, the impossible happening with no explanation e.g. there being no catastrophic effects from the moon being mostly destroyed) but it's something I've just got to get used to personally and I suppose it has no place in this comment... <,<

I was kinda surprised by the tentacle rape being used as a joke in WSJ but...*shrugs* Japan, man. bigrazz

How could they kill him if they take a liking to him...?

The series in itself is fun, I'm a big fan of Matsui Yuusei's extremely weird humor (though this is not his best work by far) BUT in my opinion, the plot, though not uninteresting, can't work.

The students are obviously fond of their alien teacher and vice versa. In this situation, anyone who's not a psychopath nor a complete retard will realize that there is no way he's gonna kill the target, weird alien or not.
So there is a feeling of pretence in the story. Every time the students make a move of the teacher, I get the impression that they're pretending, since the atmosphere makes it impossible in my mind that they'll actually go all the way...

On the other hand, depending on how the story unfolds and how the atmosphere evolves (I've only read 4 chapters so far) this paradox could lead to very interesting psychological situations and dilemmas. *_*
So, let's wait and see

Interesting manga to say the least and scores high points on originality, comedy and execution. Certainly not your typical shounen manga, and manages to score lots of laughs whilst still being well grounded.

A lot of comments have criticized the manga for simply having too silly of a storyline, but honestly the manga more than compensates with its clear cut direction and intent. Each page is sharp and witty (more than I can say for a handful of other shounens), and despite the quirky plot the flow of the manga feels surprisingly natural.

If you enjoy a good laugh and are looking for a manga that doesn't have a thousand cliche's packed into every panel, then you won't regret taking a look at this title.

is one of those things that can only get better because really if it gets worst than it already is, it would get cancelled. So if for some reason you like the so far 5 chapters that are released then go an be happily prepared for a loooooong road of pointless action, it would probably go to the guy then using the kids to fight a major enemy, now that they are trained, and then it is gonna take them forever to finish.

now under no circumstances use the excuse of give it a try because there is nothing better, or because other shonen are equally bad, if you have that much free time grab a seinen manga, or go and read a proper book.

So you better come with a better justification, you know like, the cheer stupidity of the plot just happened to be your thing, simple and straight forward with no direction, that is better than the above. Or you like the manga or not, but do not compare, that is insulting to yourself, like taking the smallest out of two pieces of shit and shove it down your troath.

I, for once, think the idea is cool. Well, you can use other words such as creative, original, amusing, remarkable, but to sum it all up, cool fits perfectly. Since I sincerely like the mangaka's other manga (Neuro), I have rather high hope for this one. That is with proof that the flow of the story so far is really interesting. It gets more gripping chapters to chapters.

As for the comment below me by Ninetails-Naruto, please, this story is more than enough worthy of being serialized in Jump, much better than some current popular series that bored one to the utmost extend.

Matsui Yusei shows that he's a consistently entertaining writer. If you haven't checked out Neuro by now, well... you probably damn well should! Anyone who tries to denounce a strange premise solely on the basis of being strange knows jack shit. (Looking at you Ninetails-Naruto) An author can pretty much sell anything so long as the writing is good enough, and in this case it is.

Anyway you've probably never seen something like this before, so give it a shot.
