Description
From Yuri Project:

Fashionable Yuzu imagined the first day at her new school she transferred to after her mother’s remarriage a bit differently; she didn’t know it’d be an ultra-strict and conservative girls’ school. So instead of a sweet high-school romance, she butts heads with the stern student council president Mei – who turns out to be her new step sister. And she has to learn that hate and love are often not that far apart.

The only good about the manga is the art, everything else is terrible, i'm still to this day incredulous why Yuri fans think this good, there many better yuri manga than this.

Gorgeous art; tame

Seeing the yuri and josei genre tags, you might expect a sexually explicit and mature romance, but that’s not the case here. Fluffy shoujo/shoujo-ai with a slow burn romance. I love 95% of the characters. The art is breathtaking. Absolutely gorgeous. Reminds me a lot of HINO Matsuri-sensei’s art. The story feels more shoujo, as in even in tragedy the characters are always smiling and powering through with undying optimism. It’s cute, but again, not what I expected due to the genre. Love Mei’s character especially, she has to be one of the most beautiful characters in a manga series ever. Love the romance and the drama. The elements of incest are not my cup of tea, but like so many manga series, it’s there whether explicit or subtext. (And no, I’m not talking about Yuzu and Mei, although it is kinda awkward at times.)
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I really wanted them to be intimate in the end, especially since they were engaged and so in love. Their kissing scenes slowly lost the heat as each volume progressed, unfortunately, and for a series labeled yuri (and josei) I hoped for at least one intimate scene, even if it’s a single page, fade to black kind of thing. I hope in the next series they’re more comfortable with each other and move into the next stage of their relationship.

i don't know what to say. the conflict is not that twisting. but the end of every conflict are so satisfyingly nice to your eye. every conflict end beautifully. both in visual and dialog.

this is not the best story. but nice to read

It starts strong, then it drags on for and endless stream of chapters.
The motivations are just not there. Most conflicts and situations are extremely forced. Some of the characters' choices make no sense. Drama after drama after drama.
IMO it should have ended 8 volumes ago.

The art is nice, and by that I mean the author knows how to do stuff and all... the problem is, save some of early members of the cast, at some point saburo uta runs out of interesting and not-weird looking character designs.

soooo yeah: it's yet another victim of its own success.

Cliche, forced... but art is great

I used to like this manga. I found some of the characters funny. The art is awesome which is a plus, but story wise is not my cup of tea. I find it way too unrealistic, especially the scenes of the drama added when new obstacles have fallen upon Mei and Yuzu. This manga has already 30+ chapters released. I'd say I can stand cliche, but not overly too many. The drama is too much and forced. New characters seem to appear to add drama and falls in love with Mei, not all of them of course. However, the majority of it had feelings for Mei or simply infatuation. For some reason, they fall out of love with Mei too quickly and the problem is solved. Ridiculous. Mei's character is unpredictable or inconsistent. I don't know whether it is because of what she had experienced with a strict family or she can't really disobey her grandfather to being the next family member to run the academy. Yuzu is a hard nut to crack. I guess it is accepted of being a teenager who didn't have relationship in the past. The characters are unlikable, but that's just me.

I've read too many yuri mangas, or manhwas throughout the years. My taste has somewhat changed to a more mature genre, not smut for the majority of the story of course. More likely two girls or women in college or working adults that I dig more. High school setting is fine, but relationship wise, I prefer if it is leaning to realistic side. Problems that are relatively complicated, but not too comprehensible. I prefer mangas/manhwas that have interesting plot to make me want to read more and art can be a plus.

Too be completely honest, I'm dropping this one. Although the art is great, it can't make me stay to read another chapter of this manga. Try Their Story, WDTFS, Serenade (Warning; has violece in it), or The Love Doctor. They are worth a read than this one.

Mainly worth it for the art

The first volume can be kind of misleading and make one think this manga is going to be full of drama and sex, but that's not the case at all. Citrus is primarily a Slice Of Life with light Romance elements. Even though there are 8 volumes worth of story, it wasn't until the two most recent chapters (33 & 34) that a real dramatic obstacle has come between the main characters. The other 30 chapters or so are very light in both drama and ecchi scenes.

Yuzu and Mei have been dating for months but they still act like middle schoolers around each other. The way their romance is being deliberately drawn out and contrived kind of takes away a lot of the fun. The character development also feels weak. Mei in particular, is kind of boring and some of the side characters are obvious fodder. Reading Citrus just made me want to go back and re-read the much better Yuri manga that are out there.

It's not all bad though. I love the character designs. Mei, Yuzu, Harumin, etc are all beautifully drawn. Their facial structure, hair, eyes and clothes are all very detailed and leave a distinct impression of who they are. The kissing scenes are always well done so the payoff in that regard is worth it.

All in all, an average manga. Recommended if you're running out of Yuri to read or just want to look at really pretty art.

Sure the story is cliche, but we are talking about very specific genre here, what kind of idiot want unique story from YURI manga, and that is exactly what Citrus is a YURI manga a very good one imo. The drama actually light hearted, I kinda hate the 1st volume but the autor quickly fix that. Some people may disagree but I prefer this kind of drama in yuri manga, I dont want to see my favorite yuri character get fucked by some men just so we can get more drama.

Anyway it is at volume 7 now and thats really rare for yuri manga, I sincerely hope this manga can at least get to volume 10, I dont care if the story drag.

For real, I think for the most part this manga is low quality, but I can't deny that it's a HIGHLY entertaining, soap-operatic series. It's one of my top favorites, actually, and I think that it actually does some things uniquely well. Wrote a long review on it explaining my thoughts. Basically, while it's cliche and silly and over-dramatic, it has some consistent themes, it's actually pretty fun, and after a while the manga changes in some ways that make me actually think it's a good series (at least now). In any case, I applaud the author.
