Comments here are so misleading

There was no rape, he just wasn't gentle when took her virginity, so it was unnecessary painful. As about other things, he wasn't purposely abusive. He couldn't understand her emotions at all, so he was cold and uncaring, he wasn't giving her warmness she expected from him. At some point, once he misunderstood situation and slapped her, but later he learned what happened and Shuri's aunt slapped him back for that. Shuri said herself, that she also was immature and inexperienced at that time, so she couldn't tell him what's wrong and was constantly just crying.
That dude, Riki seems has Schizoid Personality Disorder (characterized by "an indifference to social relationships (including those with family). They generally lack strong emotional experiences and display a restricted range of emotion. In addition to their own lack of emotionality, they also lack an awareness of other people’s feelings and struggle to empathize. Their limited involvement in their relationships with others precludes the development of friendships, and when interacting with others they will exhibit significant social skills deficits, demonstrating long silences and minimal verbal exchanges."?

TL;DR: this manga about girl with ESP getting over a guy with Schizoid Personality Disorder while working together in some shady private detective agency. It's good. It's josei genre (basically Y/A).

Typical stupid shoujo heroine

The message this manga portrays is if you want a girl all you need to do is rape and sexually abuse her.
Shuri is your typical shoujo heroine attracted to the badboy. she dates the good guy but then starts to falter for bad boy Riki and goes back to having sex with him so easily after hardly showing any physical affection to Yohta.
Whats worse is how many people defend Riki.
Rape 1 Humanity 0
So 1 of 2 typical endings: either she goes back to Yohta in the end after having tons of sex with Riki or she ends up with Riki.

Nearly all Miho mangas not called Kodomo no Omocha are a weirdly dark an completely mediocre affair with nothing special in them. This series is though is special because it trivializes rape to an alarming degree as some have pointed out already and i would have dropped it anyway. So that is only icing on the cake.
The other offenders are the uninteresting love triangle(seriously?),very shallow leads, the lack of consequences to nearly anything, unengaged and suspenseles detective tales, a needless ESP(is this the 80s?) element and the highly thrown together scenario. So it certainly deserves to run in Cookie who is to my knowledge the worst shojo publisher out there. At least i will forget the manga next day as their publications tend to do.
Read Mars or Please Save My Earth instead for hard hitting shojo classics.

I don't know....

Ok, I am seeing this on every forum dealing with this series, how everyone is so mad at the aunt for allowing Riki to continue working there after what he did to Shuri and maybe my reading comprehension is bad, but from what I gathered, Shuri's aunt doesn't actually know what really happened between her and Riki. I just re-read chapter 1 and after Shuri sees Riki working there and she freaks out, demanding her aunt to fire him, the aunt says:
A: " Ah, this is troublesome, he's the reason my niece hates men...."
S:"I'm the one who's in trouble! That asshole...Do you know what he made me go through?! Or how much he made me cry?!"
A; "No, I don't. You, never told me. Just how bad was it?"
S: "I...I don't even want to think about it. He was so cold and only thought about himself! He's just plain dirt!!"
A: "Why did you go out with him in the first place?"
S: "I was attracted to him at first."
A: See? You 2 had some good times. Besides Shuri, if he's the reason why you hate men, think of this as an opportunity to overcome that..."
S: "I don't need to overcome it!! If you're not going to make him quit, then I'll quit!"
R: "I don't mind quitting. When I found out that Shuri was your niece, I thought it would be kinda risky too. It's a pleasure to receive such an offer"
S: "It's a pleasure to receive such an offer What the....I'm amazed. I guess this means that he;s finally matured a little....Am I the only one who's holding on to the past and not growing up?"
A: "Ah, I'm at a lost! What should I do? Listen Shuri, I will do my best....to have you 2 work separately, and I'll support you, so...please? "
Shuri: "In that case...that's fine...I understand."
A: "She said it's ok!'
R: "...no, but..."
In all that exchange, it doesn't seem to me like the aunt knows it involved coerced sex. Shuri said he was cold, and uncaring, and that she really didn't want to talk about it. And ok, so that aunt was hesitant to let Riki go, since he's good at what he does, and it's her business who benefits from his abilities, but what does she really have to go by?
Her niece hates men because of Riki, but even before Riki coming into the picture, Shuri had emotional problems due to her abilities, her parents and friends were afraid of her abilities, so anything Riki could have done to her whatever minor would have shattered her already fragile stability. So her aunt can think of a million reasons of what went wrong, including possible rape, but if Shuri doesn't confirm anything to her, all she has to go by is the fact that her niece was already half-broken and Riki just finished breaking her.
Coming from someone who has sexual abuse in my background, I can say that living in the past is not healthy, so her aunt, and Minori telling her to move on is not a bad advice. It's actually the best advice they can give her, and her being able to talk to Riki is also good for her. I'm not saying that she should fall in love with him again, or that they should end up together, but if she can get over her trauma and is able to move on, and that involves being able to face Riki, then she's succeeded as a character.
So I think the trauma is being handled pretty well, besides everyone reacts to sexual abuse differently, both the victims and the people surrounding the victims.

Rape?

Don't bother with the comments about the rape and try reading it so you can judge yourself. I love this manga and it is one of my favorites that I'm reading at the moment.

First of all, until the last translated chapter we don't see Riki's point of view about his rape on Shuri. Probably we will see it in the future but until that happens it is difficult to say anything.
Second, I would believe she was abused if it was only one time being with him. Let's think about it in real life. You start dating a man you don't know. Then he invites you to come at his house. Well, a 17-year-old girl would know what can happen. After that, he forces her to make sex with her.
I think at this point, if you didn't like it you would stop this relationship right now. But no, she goes out with him again and again and the same thing happens.
I'm not trying to defend Riki (I don't like what he did either) but she has some fault in it too. It is easy to put the blame on others, but I think she is to blame too.

What I like about it is that there is a really character development here. She involves herself in a new romance (youta is too cute) while try to forget about the rape thing but this is not rushed. There are many moments she can't forget the rape thing but I can see her getting over it.
I'm really curious to see what Riki thinks and what he has gone throught, after all she can't read his mind.

I like the series seeing the main character grow, I just wish to see Riki soften up and come to love her toward the end. I really hope that she can understand him more.

addressing the rape topic

Honestly im a bit boggled by it as well. Why did such a amazing mangaka include such a thing in her story, and have the other characters who knew about it act in such a way (namely her aunt). It has to be put out there that some ppl won't consider what happened to her as 'rape' exactly. I do and others do and its actually the way the incident was handled that annoys me. but it does seem realistic in a depressing sort of way that i don't think was intended. All in all, the unconsensual sex wasn't handled as well as i hoped, but i'm sure that it will be an enduing if minor theme throughout the series.

I want to believe that these issues will be addressed later on in the story, and the story is worth reading so i do recommend this. Detective stories with a female lead who is already pretty cool who still grows as a character as the story progresses are rare and awesome.

Rape, attempted or not, is NOT okay!

That's my first thought about the manga. I was really amazed and concerned at how there seems to be a message in the manga that forced sex is something that just needs to be "gotten over" with and forgotten. All the heroine's friends and her one main family, her aunt, think nothing of what she's going through. The heroine is obviously heavily scarred, and for good reason.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Seriously the aunt really pissed me off when she told Shuri she needed to get over it... and then all she did was slap the guy. Really? I'd wrap a man up tightly in lots of rusted barbed wire and electric fencing if that happened to my nieces...

That being said, I've read all that has been translated. I really like the main character. She's a crier, but she isn't dumb and can really take care of herself. I also like the other guy who genuinely cares for her, and who is understanding about her past and is willing to help her deal with the trauma.

The detective part is neat too, and the aunt is an awesome investigator. This makes the manga good enough.

The positives don't quite make up for the one big negative, but they are enough to keep me interested in the story. I'm invested in the MC and her guy, because they're unique in shoujo.

A really good read

I haven't read a manga like this before, which for me is rather refreshing. I love the whole feel of it. It has depth and emotion and so much more than other series.

I love the art. It's beautiful without being over done. The plot is amazing to me (don't know about anyone else). And I love all the characters. Well... Though he's a cutie, I think that Youta's character is a little on the annoying side the way he's always smiling and so happy all the time. It's like "dude, do you ever have an off day?" haha But I think the way he's always so positive is the reason why he's so perfect for Shuri. She really needs to be with someone like him.

Then there's the matter of Riki. He's so the character we all love to hate haha but I don't hate him. Yes, I do agree that he did some fucked up things to Shuri when they were younger, and that he's scarred her maybe for life, but I really don't think he a bad person. He just has a mean streak in him.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
After Shuri was almost raped, though he did something horrible to her right after, he did get angry and exacted revenge for her. And yes he basically raped her himself when they were together, but I think it was just that he didn't know how to handle people let alone women. And he's the type to do whatever he wants anyway no matter what you say (soo not trying to make excuses for him, he was still very wrong and should be punished for it). But when Shuri looked into his mind she found nothing. he's basically an empty shell. Emotionless. Which is why he's so cold to people. Especially Shuri. And we know that he went out with her in the first place because he liked her and not because he wanted to use her.

Everyone keeps saying her aunt is wrong for telling her to get over the fact that she was raped, but her aunt did hit Riki for what he did to Shuri and she wasn't telling her to get over it and her past with Riki, but to use it to make herself stronger. Which I agree with. She obviously couldn't fire Riki because he's good at what he does and she needs him. It's not like she has a lot of staff in the first place. And I really think that if Shuri and Riki talked things out, it would really help with her healing. He would get to her how she felt, and she would hear what he was really thinking.

But still I LOVE Riki. He's sexy haha Yea sure he's an emotionless jerk that needs a beating once in a while. But I think there is a part of him that still likes Shuri (though he acts like he doesn't care) and I think she still like him too, which is why she can't get over what he did to her. And I kinda think he needs someone like Shuri to bring something out of him...

It is unfair of me to stop at just two chapters, but I found it pretty much completely unreadable.

Characters are pretty much cardboard cut-outs. Even a soap opera writer would be ashamed to create characters like this.
