I was only reading the first pages because I couldn't move on when the heroine talked about herself being raped as if it was nothing THAT cruel.
How can one seriously pick up such a tragic topic and turn it into something like this?

First of all this is a very short manga with only 8 chapters for the story there is little that can be shown. The trauma of rape is both severe and painful. There is very little that can fully heal that trauma, but that is not what is being depicted here. What we have is a guy that is only related to her trauma by the resemblance to her attacker, which causes an instinctive reaction to him. We have here her overcoming her instinct not her trauma.

Every event depicted for the interactions between the two are both realistic and believable. The guy being rather aggressive in his pursuit of her until he finds out the cause and then berating himself for his aggressiveness. He then changes his tactic to gentle protection, warding off things that will cause her to relive the trauma. We see a moment of weakness in him when she gives him some trust in such a way that almost any guy in love would find it physically painful to refrain. There is a slow change in her as his constant gentle actions slowly work into her heart. Then we see her confusion as to why she is starting to be ok with him and why is she jealous of other girls getting near him.

We have no real clue as to how long the time frame is that this takes place in. Most likely less than a month seeing as the class project is still ongoing but still even if the time frame seems to be a bit rushed I think that how the events are portrayed are not unrealistic.

First if you are a guy wanting to obtain a girl that is reluctant you have to be a bit aggressive. This story I find to be fantastic. My personal opinion on rape is that all rapists should be shot. I am not trying to belittle rape victims but I think that I would want a rape victim to have a guy that was like this one to help her overcome her terror.

Seriously? this is a 2 volume manga, so if you're concerned about them falling in love too fast and her being a rape victim not being a 'bigger' issue then avoid.
But I'll say it again, this is a 2 volume manga ppl!! even if it dealt with less serious themes it will always be a fast romance.

With that said, I think this is a very nice manga. What I liked best about it is the male character. at the end of volume 2 there's a small reference to how he fell in love with her and all he did in order to get her to fall for him too. I think even the way she falls in love with him is believable coz I truly believe that ANY rape victim would like to eventually get over their trauma and live a 'normal' life again.

This is a nice short read.

Not an accurate depiction of a rape victim...

It was all right to begin with. You could see some of these events occuring between a rape victim and a guy who cared about her but by volume 2 it had lost what little sense of sensitivity and reality as it turned into your typical shoujo. (If I hear "It's just too embarrassing!" again I'll scream because - er - rape carries a lot more emotional baggage than embarrassment...)

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Eden no Hana deals with the trauma of sexual assault (and implied rape) much more sensitively and the lead character's recovery is much slower

Having said that, some of the angsty moments in the first volume were done very well. You could feel the pain and misunderstanding from both characters. It was just too short otherwise it could have been a great manga. The romance was too fast and unbelievable.

On a side note, when did Aoki's art become so wierd? In Boku wa Imouto ni Koiwosuru Yori looks downright scary. This is one of her earlier works and the male doesn't look so bad.

Spare time read

After having read Bitter Virgin, I find it hard to believe this depiction of a rape victim being able to fall in love in 9 chapters. I also find the main male lead arrogant and insensitive. But, if you 'forget' (i.e imagine she just has some ongoing phobia of boys) about the main character being raped, it is a good read if you've got spare time on your hands.

That was really an adorable story - i'm saying it as a person who hasnt finished the story yet, but I think that being a rape victim, and also falling in love with a boy with the same face is unlikely.BUT - even though she's slowly falling in love with him she's sometimes reluctant and pulls out her courage to even talk to a boy which is making the effort to pull this story into the romance direction - when we saw them in chapter 4, setsugu started to trust him, but he hugged her and she cried which i think was realistic because this showed she was still unsure C:

this ridicules the concept of rape. the girl is unbearably indecisive and its virtually impossible to love such a air headed, weak character. But I have to admit i do like the male lead.

disappointing.

It was a good story but not much.

the plot was very good but I don't know... Maybe it hadn't enough action for me ? Anyway, I've been left unsatisfied. If you have nothing to read, go for this manga. It's the perfect shoujo.

P.S.: But I must admit that the guy is so romantic ! ^_^

Actually vile

Irredeemably blighted by a shallow and surprisingly compassionless portrayel of a past rape victim that spends more time berating her for the minor distress her traumatized behavior causes the male lead than sympathizing with her much greater pain. Even ends up skirting disturbingly close to misogyny.

It's just a load of banal angsting, besides that. After reading more serious and humane works on rape like Bitter Virgin(which has a very similar premise) or Made-up Myth, it's impossible to take something this trite seriously.
