The characters are so cute together! I love the relationship they have. I also love how Ryusei always calms down or seems relaxed when Akari (and the cat!) is around. This story made me want to go see Kabuki.

This manga had me laughing chapter after chapter.

It's a quick story, but it honestly gets to the point without feeling rushed. I did wish there had been more, but there honestly wasnt a need.

It's a quick two book series, and it's totally worth the time.

Great for romance

If you really want to read about a great guy that loves deeply and focuses his energy on a girl this is it. There isn't much plot to this story but it draws you in by the focusing on the relationship of being a couple. The feelings, trials and tribulations are all there, leaving you suspended in the romance of Akari and Ryuse. A truly romantic romance.

Akari and Ryusei made a truly adorable couple, but Backstage Prince would probably have been more accurately titled something along the lines of "The Joys and Trials of Dating an Actor." The kabuki theme was just a gimmick that was used to hammer home the "backstage is our special place" idea. Honestly, it felt like I was reading a really good oneshot that had a million "special stories" and "extra chapters" tacked on after it, because all the relationship development and falling in love took place in the first chapter. Each chapter after that dealt with different obstacles on their bumpy road to a happy ending. Thankfully, the problems were solved quickly and it wasn't terribly dramatic, but if you have little patience for manufactured conflicts, you might find this slow going.

It's worth reading just for Ryusei, though; for a guy who is anti-social and has major problems with verbal communication, he's remarkably expressive. Despite his flaws, he's basically a perfect boyfriend - he's sweet and incredibly considerate, and everything he does, he does with Akari's happiness in mind. Unfortunately, Akari is a bit empty-headed and insecure, which is the root of a lot of their problems. It really makes me wonder how she can be insecure with a boyfriend as loyal and caring as Ryusei is, but despite this, it's hard to hate her. Overall, this is a decent read if you're a diehard romance fan. If you're after a great plot, however, I'd stay away because this is rather uneventful; this is, in its bare bones, just the tale of a normal girl dating a popular kabuki actor.

Full of romance and i love how the guy isn't cocky about his looks or talent like other shoujo mangas. I also love how the girl doesn't fall in love with him just because he;s hot. The fact that it contains kabuki theatre makes the manga really unique and interesting.
Loved it and you will too smile

Typical Shoujo

If you're a straight up shoujo fan, then you'll love this manga. If you're the kind of person who's looking for a thick, intense plot with some substance, you probably won't enjoy reading this.. that being said, its hard to criticize the manga for that because of its length.
What I will criticize it for is that its rather repetitive... i.e. the conflict is pretty much the same and happens a grand total of two times... so like I said, its essentially only a love story, not a story in terms of plot/conflict...

The characterization is actually rather good, you'll see the protagonists show some real backbone and I appreciated that. Not one of those completely conservative to the extreme that its bloody annoying to read =D. And its also got comedy too, so yeah its a great light read... perfect while you're going from one thing to another and have like 20-30 min to spare. It'll put a smile on your face too, so enjoy!

Antisocial meets social

Seems to be same ole' same ole', in the antisocial world. On that note, it was a good story and the development of the relationship of the main leads comes along nicely. I really enjoyed the art.

wow. the manga moved in fast. by the 1st chapter they were already in love. im like "slow down!!".. haha
if only real love can be returned THAT easily..

i only wish there were more climax. all their problems seemed to be solved so easily...
but i guess somewhere in there is a great plot. and a great manga.
the characters are all likeable. even the so called 'evil' characters are likeable..

i never would have thought Kabuki actors were that famous... embarrassed
