The "Reader's Digest" version of Pastel
by Geese1

Rating: 7.5  / 10.0
As others have pointed out, this is basically the exact same story as Pastel, just condensed down to fit into 4 volumes. It seems like the author liked this story so much that he decided to expand upon it later on, as the ideas, themes, and characters and situations are almost carbon copies.

That's not to say this is bad though. Far from it, it's a very enjoyable story with fun characters, decent (although not great) artwork, and a really nice ending that leaves you with a smile on your face.

And in some ways, it's more enjoyable than it's successor simply because the story is a lot tighter, meaning you're not given a lot of extraneous chapters. This one deals exclusively with the two leads, and any other back story we may get is only in relation to how it affects their relationship.

However, while this does have a lot of benefits, I personally kind of prefer the slower pace of Pastel, in which the characters are given more time to grow and develop, and we get a lot more time to know and care about both the leads, and the accompanying players.

Also, like I said, while the artwork is good in this, if you compare it to Pastel you'll see that it still hadn't fully matured at this point, and is still somewhat rough around the edges, especially in regards to drawing the character's facial reactions.

Still, all in all it's a good entry into the romantic-comedy genre. While comparisons to it's more famous sibling are inevitable, that's still no reason to ignore this one, although I do think Parallel is better appreciated if read before Pastel. It's still definitely worth a look if you at all like the genre.

My little comment

This story is good, but Pastel is better. I feel that there is too much unbalance between the two main characters, unlike in Pastel where each person has something that balance the lack of something in another person.
The development of art/story in this manga tend to become better toward the end (i.e it looks so-and-so at the beginning). Surrounding characters are also nice, especially the big sister! Nice comedy! I will be enjoy reading this
manga from time to time.

Well its just like pastel but even though it might feel recycled it still has good art and a good feel to it. I liked it alot and if your into shounen romance then this is should be on your list for sure. I recomend you read pastel though, it just seems like an all in all improved version of this. I probably missed something cause i dont know why its called parallel, I'll reread it in a few months and find out.

This is a great story, feels a lot like a test run for Pastel, but it's still a really good story. I enjoyed it.

cliche, but good

This one is a typical HS shounen romance, yet refreshing. It's good for relaxing yourself after work, or when you are fed up with all those action/bloody/weird manga.
Ok, give it a 9/10.

Typical

This is semi popular but I don't really get why. It's a typical run of the mill Japanese love comedy where they fight like cats and dogs the whole way through. I didn't like the ending and and I was never really sure if it's more than a one sided love. If Pastel is really similar to this, then I would rather shoot myself in the head before reading 35 volumes of something like this.

Addicting romance

Parallel is by no means a genre defining manga. However, it takes know, formulas, and improves on them.

Great characters and story (Albeit pretty generic. At least the author added a few twists), with good art and progression. Basically a nicely done, but fairly standard comedy/romance.

Compare this with pastel. Guy meets girl and falls in love with her but they turn out to be non-blood-related-siblings.
Nevertheless this 4-volume 'short' story has a happy ending.

Cute and fluffy manga

It's a cute fluffy manga, with some minor/light misunderstandings as plot devices.

In chapter 1, the two mc likes each other but can't because they'll become step sibling. However, that's one seriously flawed logic. Step-siblings are not considered incest so I see no reason why both MCs can't progress as a couple. Does the author think it's readers are stupid? Maybe it's a Japanese thing that step-siblings are tabooed from being romantic with each other? If you can overlook this, you'll enjoy this fluffy shoujo.

I really enjoyed reading this manga, too bad it was so short...I really wanted more, but I guess I`ll read Pastel next(made by the same mangaka) which, if I`m not mistaken, has a similar story! ^_^
I won`t give a review since there are already more than enough written before me!

And for the guy before me: Please, before making a comment/review/etc, learn to write!
