Description
From Storm in Heaven and one of their legacy groups, Bamboo Feathers:
Deep in a cave lies a demon trapped in ice who will eat any human who dares enter. The demon, Blood, waits for the human who will cry the purest tears, for the gem formed from those tears will break the spell that binds him.
One day, a young man named Ishuca appears in the cave—and knowing that his weak heart will not last long, he has come to die. Touched by Ishuca's gentle nature, Blood gradually begins to change from the cruel, ice-cold demon he once was.
Note that the artbook contains a new Koori short story.

One Of The Best Shounen-Ai

It's funny how there's always one idiot in the comments section who didn't bother reading the genres and seeing if it's to their tastes before reading. So for the sake of those still on the fence, I'll lay it out for you.
Please note that this is not Bara. Nor is it a complicated melodrama with cheating and abuse. This is a fantasy manga with a sweet, youthful romance. The characters are all well fleshed out with thier own strengths and weaknesses. The art is gorgeous. The universe is well made and complex. Characters with different power levels shift and change so we see more of their strengths, so if you're reading the first volume and think you have them pinned, you don't. This is a manga with actual character development (I know, it's hard to remember such things exist). At the same time, it doesn't overreach. There was never a point where I struggled to keep up with the characters I was being introduced to or the direction of the plot. It flowed beautifully, none of that choppiness long manga have a tendency to suffer from.
The one downside would actually have been a deal-breaker for me if it had been mentioned beforehand but in the end, wasn't as disappointing as the ending of a similar manga 'Silver Diamond'. I'll place it under a spoiler so you can decide if you would rather be pre-warned or just enjoy the experience.
What it doesn't lack is depth. I struggle to believe the commenter who said that actually read the series at all. Or perhaps they just accepted everything at face value without considering established canon. Whatever the case, it's a real diservice to make such a baseless slur.
That said, the romance is sweet.
The couples have their trials and preassures. They have histories that impact their lives. But it still, always, remains sweet. Don't go into this expecting the kind of relationship drama that makes you hate the leads. Go into this taking it as it is, a sweet and idealistic romance. Again, this is a fantasy.
So if you're deciding whether or not to read this I'll say it this way: Do you like fairytales? Much like Silver Diamond, this is a fairytale. And while that doesn't suit everyone's tastes, it is not a flaw in the series that makes it unsuitable. It is simply, your tastes. I personally love fairytales, I love fantasy. And this is why I love reading.
If you've enjoyed Silver Diamond, whether to read this or not should be a no-brainer. They are of similar ilk.
But please don't fault the manga for not being customized to your personal tastes. It makes you look like an idiot. If you didn't enjoy it, say so. But make it clear what is a failing of the manga and what is you.
This is in my top 5 shounen-ai series. It's not the best there ever was but it's up there. I would definitely recommend giving it a go.

This is shounen-ai light. Where they basically pledge SUPREME AND EVERLASTING BIG LOVE. But don't do much else. I personally get really frustrated when I feel a romance is being half-arsed and such a warning would have me running away. But in this case I was satisfied enough with how things went.

Seriously. This is the best shonen ai ever. I'm not a big fan of shonen ai as I'm more into yaoi. But I can say this story is much much better than many shonen ai & Yaoi I've ever read. I love Silver Diamond too. Really love. But the story on Koori no mamono was much deeper, and darker, and more shonen ai than SD (Since it's obviously they're love each other...and there're kissing scene) LoL. The story much much more interesting after they introduced the main villain (I think it's around vol 8 or 9)
The art became much better & gorgeous on each volumes. There are Characters development; such as from an innocent guy into a mature one. The relationship between the demon and the human was soooooo sweet!!!! I'm melting! The story wasn't that cheap!!! seriously. The main theme of this title was about their relationship, but it was packed completely with an adventure, action, drama, humor (not as much as silver diamond) that mixed into an interesting story. So you won't feel bored reading it.
I don't know if both of them are lovers or not.
I love Blood. He's sooo sexy and gorgeous..and over protective. I always think that he's one sided love as Ishuca is a lil bit.. moron xD
highly recommended for those who love bromance, shonen ai, or yaoi.

But in the end they're living together and claimed that they're love each other
. The funny thing is...early volumes you will get a few of kissing scene. But in the middle till the end, you won't get any - except for the kissing scene that sensei didn't completely draw and the scene of sucking blood from the neck (That I imagine as sexy scene. LoL). I think because the magazine changed from shonen ai magz into shoujo magz. Damn.I love Blood. He's sooo sexy and gorgeous..and over protective. I always think that he's one sided love as Ishuca is a lil bit.. moron xD

Out of the hundreds of BL manga I've read so far, Koori no Mamono no Monogatari is my absolute favorite. I love everything about it - plot, characters, relationship developments, art, etc. - it is a truly touching series that has made me tear up more than once while I was reading (and re-reading) it.
With that said, I've to admit that my first impression of Koori wasn't good at all. The quality of the 1st volume scanlation was poor, and the artwork as well as plot at the beginning were extremely ordinary, so I thought about either just skimming through the series or dropping it altogether.
However, everything improves with each volume and the story really comes together. Perhaps what I love most about this series is that nothing about it is over-dramatic; it stays real while working with the complications of human emotions and human nature. While I consider Koori a fairytale, and it has its fair share of comedic moments, it also has enough angst to satisfy an angst-lover like me.
To make a long comment short, I strongly, strongly recommend this series!

The last time I read Koori no Mamono no Monogatari was when there was only about four or five volumes scanlated, and recently I decided to reread the manga and catch up with it. If you haven't been keeping up with the series (or if you haven't been able to get past the first seven volumes) READ IT.
Like mentioned in a previous comment, the plot doesn't start to get intense until about volume 9.
Anyways, I love this series, just as I love Silver Diamond. Light BL, deep character bonds with each other, etc.

I came across this manga recently when I was reading a BL which supposedly had the same premise. I was surprised with it having 24 volumes and it dragged me about 3 days to read the whole thing. At first, I was hesitant because the main character was just idiotically "innocent". The characters were a bit hard to grasp because they had boxed characteristics which didn't seem real at all. Taking note the year this was published, I can at least give some leeway though. Also, since it had a fantasy genre where the demons are heretics and the temple people were upright in their human ways, I decided to let those slip and continued reading on. The story, depth and complexity of the story only starts from the moment Ischuca's past was revealed, and well...that was about midway in the story. SO, if you didn't get to read everything and gave a comment about it having such a lame plot, I won't blame you...Anyway, talking about the exciting parts (which was past midway), the characters gradually had a change of heart. The thrilling scenes will make you want to read and finish until the end. The ending for me, didn't leave me hanging or asking much questions (I did wish it had a Yaoi DJ though, just for kicks). One thing I can say about this manga is that it was built-up slowly but well. It isn't the usual BL theme based on physical attraction or sex. I'd say if you have time to spare and are fond of BL, then read this (I skimmed on some parts because they were a bit too talky for a manga). It still left good feels for me, so it's acceptable.

The best shounen ai since 'Sono Yubi Dake ga Shitteiru' (ok KnMnM technically came out before that) trust me i've read hundreds of yaoi/shounen-ai by now. At first the 24 volumns were a bit daunting, i didn't think it would would've held my interest for more than a volume or two (blame the short attention span) but i got through all 24 volumes within just a week.
The art was gorgeous and the story was even more so. Although the BL content was light, the love and respect that the main chartacters had for each other was conveyed beautifully.
Highly recommended!

Nice plot, and hmm reseonble art I guesse.
It has its stupid moment like "somebody figures out something and then that somebody says it to him/herself"
But there are really cute moment^^ Don't know if it will be considered as a spoiler, even so, a minor one so..Posible Spoiler ahed>>
The translations and scans of the first and second volumes are a little crappy... grammer mistakes and low quality scans... (well, I guesse there are people that know english as a forgin language worse than me^^)
It's realy predictable though... In the part with the lake demon in volume 3,
I understood who that girl was when Ishuca went to hom.
It's still nice nontheless^^

First of all, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT IS FINALLY COMPLETE! I fell in love with this manga circa 2010 and followed its progress for a few years, but stopped around 2013 when only 14 volumes were scanlated. I just felt like it would never see the end. But it happened! I am SO GRATEFUL for all the scanlation groups who have worked hard on this series for years! Thank you!!
This was an absolute joy to read. I adored the first half, and years later, I fell in love with it again. The last ten volumes were just as perfect. The characters have gone through so much, they all changed. And sensei is an amazing mangaka - I fell in love with all the characters, even the "villains". There is not a single character whose fate I wasn't curious about. The story is brilliant. Never once did I felt bored while reading these 24 volumes. And sensei has a brilliant way of mixing humor, romance, fluff, angst and even pretty dark stuff in a flawless way that moves me so much there were times I had to stop reading for a while because I felt like my heart just couldn't take more. The art is amazing. The first few volumes definitely have that typical 90s style, but it progresses rapidly and by the 7th or 8th volume, it's just drop-dead gorgeous.
This is the type of manga that would be a fantastic read even without the romance. But the romantic love is definitely there, and boy, it's such a wonder to witness. As one of the reviewers mentioned, the manga switched magazines sometime after the Toei arc, so after that, there aren't any kiss scenes. But the thing is, YOU WON'T NOTICE IT'S MISSING. You really won't. Blood and Ishuca share such a tender love, shown in so many ways, that you will not forget, not even for a second, that a great love story is part of this tale. (The same goes for the Wild and Rapunzel, too.) I greatly admire that.
I really don't know what else to say. My mind is blown, my heart is full with emotions. I still can't quite believe that it's over, but oh, it was such a magnificent read. I'm sure I'll be re-reading Koori again and again.

Ok I gotta confess something. The first time I came across this manga, I didn't really like it. I read about 7 chapters and then dropped it. But later on I picked it up again and boy am I glad I did so. Don't be fooled by the first few chapters, they just have a feeling of a human and a demon travelling together and coming across different things. But nope, that's not all. The plot progresses really well and you wanna know what's gonna happen next. The character development is simply amazing. And I mean it when I say amazing. It is great. The relationships...just wow. Gorgeous art. Really beautiful. It might be old styled but it's still dazzling and beautiful.
Highly recommended. Defenitely read it and don't miss out this master piece.
Just wish someone could pick up the rest of it and translate it. Sigh >.<
