A shoujo that's NOT completely generic (!!!)

Well, this "comment" ended up being a bit longer than I intended...

I'm usually in the habit of looking at the onemanga page and just selecting some random manga and then reading it for (usually just a few) hours. Usually, I find shoujos the most relaxing to follow, because they usually have the same trite plots, female protagonists, male bishies, etc (so I don't get any pleasant or unpleasant surprises, because I've seen it all before)... and what can I say, I'm a fan of the romance genre, and shoujos always include it (along with (melo)drama and all that other jazz). So, I look at this fantasy shoujo, read something about some bishie and a harem and go "oh great, let's read another one of these."

But I have to say, this one has been somewhat of a pleasant surprise. I really, really thought that this would be an extremely generic shoujo, but the female protagonist, while still not being entirely original, is actually pretty enjoyable to follow. She doesn't get hung up on one thing too long (whether or not that's due to the story's pace or not is questionable), and while the main characters are pretty much predestined to be her harem, they're interesting in their own little ways nonetheless.

However, the real draw here isn't the characters (or the plot, which is almost always character-driven in shoujos anyway), in my opinion (because they're still a bit generic, though they do break the mold slightly). I would say what's really refreshing is the fantasy/psychology setting. Maybe it's because I like fantasy in general (and/or I've read so many fantasy shoujo mangas that basically had a worthless fantasy setting), but this one's setting is rather refreshing. It does make use of an old story but it's implemented in such a different way that it's actually more refreshing than if they made up some bogus random setting. It's interesting. As you discover more about the setting, you'll actually start thinking more about the setting's implications with regards to Alice's mind .. hence the psychological tag actually fits here, and it's used nicely. Maybe not 100% original, but it's solid.

Overall, this is a really good read. It's been a while since I can say I've actually enjoyed reading something (instead of just passing time with it), and this one was quite good. I just sincerely hope they can keep it up (just got done with the 12th chapter). Oh, and >>>> Alice is hot. biggrin <<<<

i never review a manga without reading more than one volume but i just had to comment on this one. this series blew me AWAY! the plot is wonderfully developed so that you don't just read about hot guys. i can't even guess what's going to happen next and i normally have pretty plausible theories! this is a definite go for people who want something different from the normal shojo genre.

I really enjoy reading this, with the typical art of a shoujo manga combined with a bloody and sadistic atmosphere that makes everything really seem a crazy dream. The heroine is really cold and rational but you get the feeling she's opening up in the other world, and apart from being good looking, the various male characters are awfully ambiguous, so there is yet to define who are the bad and the good guys in the story (if there are any good). The mystery can do nothing but drag you along.

This is such a cute manga. The art is wonderful, the character development is awesome, and it has a unique and original plot! (even though it's technically a parody) ^w^
Definitely a MUST READ!

Great manga if you like parodies, strong/cool main characters and good storylines with twists.

The high point of this series for me is Alice, who I admire for being so practical and sensible, who is also aware of her own flaws. When she totally turned down Peter (even to the point of telling him she put her guard up and hitting him XD) because of what he did to her. I found this pretty awesome because unlike most shoujo where the main chara usually falls for the first guy they meet, this one looks like this may be a very different case. xD

I love this manga so much, the mystery in it is making me go crazy for the next chapter!! (not many manga can do that)
The art is fantastic, and the bishies complement each other well, personality wise, and the heroine isnt a dummy, and is actually pretty cool
(she refuses to go down the rabbit hole, so basically is dragged XD)
brilliant.

I knew that this manga was based off a game when I read it, and so I took an otome-player perspective when reading it. I'm actually the kind of person who doesn't play all the endings for each game, depending on which characters I have a preference for. So in that sense, even though characters like Ace was not given a back-story or whatever kind of character development, I still thought the entire story had good development. And thus, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The holes left that made it seem confusing was just a small bit of mystery that can be double-checked by looking on forums for explanation by the logic present in the otome game.

I loved this manga. I'm a sucker for Alice in Wonderland stuff to begin with but ive read and watch so much that i'm starting to get bored with it all. however, this manga was awesome. the whole thing was just fun to read and i just wanted to see who Alice would end up with in the end. Loved it!

Disappointed

I gave this manga a try, since everyone was saying how great it was. I really had my hopes high and I ended up truly disappointed after finish this. It had everything to be a great manga: mistery, that bit of romance that makes us go "awww", fantasy, drama... It started really great. Not long after that, it turned out a bit confusing. But I continued reading. Even though I was confused, I really hoped to get my answers. I finished reading it yesterday and it didn't feel like a real ending... I got a few answers, but there was still a LOT to be answered. And it ended just like that. How disappointing... The art is beautiful, the characters are lovable, the plot had everything to make this one of the best shoujos that I'd ever read in my life. Till I read the ending and the whole story felt incomplete. Still, I give this somewhat of a good rating thanks to every little thing that I liked about it. I didn't give it a better rating thanks to that ending and my eternal unanswered questions.
