Spoiler (highlight to view)
It's your typical generic shoujo crap. Group of bullies causing trouble and harm to people in the school and female protagonist tries to stop them. Read the scans up to chapter 8, when the school staff finally took action to stop the group of bullies, the female lead Meru sticks up for the group's leader. What the hell?! The group's leader has done so much harm and she's protecting him? That's stupid! He did a lot of harm and she won't let him and his group face the consequences. Bull! Saw the raws of the last chapter and guess what, obvious typical ending. Female lead falls for bad boy (the leader of the bullies). Bad boy gets happy ending without getting what he deserves for all the harm he caused. Fuuuuu******k.
What's with these garbage stories that is in shoujo manga nowadays? They're all the same premise (female lead and bad boy go together, seriously this has been overdone. It needs to stop. Kill it, pour salt on it, burn it, bury it, and lets not see it ever again). I saw the forum for this manga and read fangirls squealing for the bad boy. He has a terrible personality and caused oppression towards innocent people, and girls are liking him? Since a lot of them say he looks "hot" the girls are going to let it slide. *Slaps fangirls some sense* Delusional idiots.

One of the few things that are decent in this manga would be the art, though personally, it seems too overwhelming. As for the characters, a couple of the personalities are present in other shoujo manga, so I didn't mind that too much. However, the storyline is just plain ridiculous...even for a manga storyline.
It was fine at first, because it added humor (since the dad didn't even know what gender his daughter was) but then, everything else was blown so out of proportion, that I declared Fly High the most horrible shoujo manga I had ever read.
Want to know a couple of my reasons?
1. The storyline.............does not make any sense. When writing a school-life manga, it should be school-like. A small group of students shouldn't have total control over the entire school no matter how popular, rich or beautiful they are. Ok, it's a manga, and manga are unrealistic. That's a load of ____. Manga story lines are imaginative and creative. This manga has little (if any) creativity. Perhaps it started out with some good ideas, but I don't think the mangaka thought this one through. It seems more like her ideas are glued together by clichés, underdeveloped conflicts, and unnecessary characters.
Very poorly developed.
2. The characters have little to no personality. Let's take for example, Meru. She is a complete Mary Sue. She's clumsy, caring, sweet, strong, nice, absent-minded but that only serves to make her cute...or was supposed to. The character of Meru Tachibana makes me sick to the core. Why? Because her character is not "human" per se. She has too many good points, and her "bad" points are actually good points. Basically, she's an idealized person, and therefore, she does not have any personality. When I read manga, I want to relate to the characters, even just a little bit, but with Fly High, most of the characters make me sigh in exasperation.
A lot of the characters are created with no purpose in mind. Most of Ichiya's group, for example, are only there so that Ichiya seems more powerful. I mean, they wouldn't be so threatening if there was only two of them. So the mangaka decides to add in a couple more characters just to add to the very badly developed plot. They are, at first, portrayed as a group of individuals that do nothing but bully the school and are basically tyrants. But then, the author decides to tell their story, how they're not bad people and how they're "just trying to help" their friend that was traumatized...Well, that is absolutely no excuse to why they should treat others so terribly. Not only that, but if Ichiya's group needs a dim-witted, righteous girl to tell them right from wrong then not only are they completely oblivious to how the world works, but they are also inhumane. If the author really made her characters dumb enough to think that controlling the entire school with their bullying nature will help their traumatized friend come back, only to realize that they were wrong all along with the help with one of the dumbest characters I've seen in a while (Meru), then I believe that this manga should not be published at all.
The only character that I can tolerate would be Ruka because he is one of those typical bishounen guys that are found in practically every shoujo manga.
One of the few things I enjoyed about this terrible manga would be the short story about Meru's parents. It was funny, kinda sweet in it's own way, and of course clichéd (though that just adds to the humour unlike the main story of Fly High). This short story was what I expected Fly High to be, but I was extremely disappointed.
The mangaka finally concludes the manga......with a poorly developed ending to a poorly developed story. It was as if the author decided that, since she couldn't think of a good ending, might as well end it with practically no resolution at all.
I think the only reason why people enjoy this manga would be to pair up Meru with the guy they prefer, and then fantasize about it. How disappointing.
Personally, I would not recommend this manga to anyone...ever.
2/10 --> mostly for the art and the potential to become mediocre

This manga makes no sense. If a bunch of 7/8th graders were causing trouble and bullying, the school would've already jumped on their butts and expelled them in no time.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Why wait until things escalate? It was chapter 8 when an adult FINALLY intervened. And that adult is a crazy psycho tyrant. Are Japanese schools like this? Geez. (And there are hints of romance, but she doesn't end up with anyone at all. Which is disappointing.)
It's unrealistic, but I have to keep on saying to myself "It's a manga...It's a manga...Better than expected ^^d

It's pretty similar to all those "tough girl saves the school" plot but I like it anyway. The art is pretty and I agree with inatsumi (commenter below) that the guys ARE hot
And he's only 13!? O_O" That's if she was talking about Ichiya ^^
I personally prefer Luca Miller, even though he's 12 ... T_T And that's why I love ch05 the most ^^V

I feel misled by the summary and the first pages of the manga.
I'm okay with stupid heroines if they're physically strong. But seriously, the beginning talks about how she knows all these martial arts, raised as a boy, and must hide her strength. BUT...
Then when confronting the bullies and all she does is talk about "FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC" and gets saved by another dude. Uggggh! In whole first volume, she doesn't fight AT ALL until like 2-3 pages at the end. I want to see heads roll and everyone at school to know she's the boss and what I get is her simpering while being held up against the wall by a bully.
This is honestly a stereotypical shoujo, where girl takes on the bullies who control the school. She doesn't beat anyone up. Doesn't manipulate or do smart things. She wins them over with her stubborn cheerfulness and sincerity. Believe it or not, I sometimes like these mangas, but this manga did not pull it off well and was totally not refreshing. If you want a heroine who wins over the bullies who control the school, read Penguin Brothers.

I know everyone is complaining but I found the art and humour to be entertaining! The plot was good and I know everyone's saying how unrealistic it is but come on! It's a manga! I find books being based on real life quite boring and usually miserable that's why I enjoy mangas so much! Even if many people don't like it, I just happen to be one of them people who really like it and have read it a few times!
But hey, everyone has an opinion of there own! ^^

Same question asked by others, How the hell doesnt the dad know his own daughters' sex? Which to me, even in the manga world seems pretty dumb over the top. I love Meru's mother though. and Meru and her friend.
But I hate how she just becomes friends with those bastards at the beginning of the story. Honestly, its already cliched enough, it ending that way just makes it more bad for me. About the love triangle though. Its one of the first times I dont feel like knowing who she'll end up with, cos the story is not THAT enjoyable for me. And at chapter 8, somebody finally stood up(a teacher), like they were suppose to at the beginning, then the physically strong but mentally dumb and sorta weak female lead just stands up for him, irregardless of what happened to him he still deserves to get kicked on the face. How pathetic, I understand if people forgive, since im a *sort-of* forgiving person aswell(maybe), but before people forgive just like that, it shouldnt be let go just like that.. I just cant understand why female readers enjoy these things? im no STRONG headed feminist but this type of mangas are really degrading to females.. " lets all fall inlove with the bad boy, just cos he's bad and he needs changing." but i guess if it fulfills many girls fantasies, thn i guess reading mangas like these helps.
I didnt enjoy it all because i tried not to look at anyones comment before reading, but maybe if i have read the comments that speaks bad about this maybe i wouldnt have been so disappointed, cos i'd have expected less.
I guess most shoujo fans would like this. But for people who are just curious. i think youll enjoy it if you dont treat it seriously.
P.s the art is cute though.

When I saw some comments I was prepared for the worst... Perhaps thanks to that, I didn't find this awful.
It's true that some things are quite questionable with the story, but I told myself that it was a manga, so all the irrational things, I could more or less accept it...
The important part is that it was cute, entertaining and short, just the right length to not become irritating (at least for me).
Don't expect something really original, but even so, cliché is funny and refreshing sometimes (when it doesn't drag).

There is little in the manga that gives the notion of realistic conflict, yet there is likable characters for the most part. The lead character with her one serious weakness was a very fun character. She reminds me a bit of the main character in Happy Hustle High.
There were some serious issues that were dealt with in this manga. The one weakness that this manga has from my point of view is how easily forgiveness is offered to those that wronged the other characters. A forgiving personality is just that a personality trait that is not all that common. In this manga it seems to be the rule.
Other then that the story was interesting and fun to read. Overall I liked it.
