Reposting spoiler from my post in IR's forum

Ok. BAH. I never got to explain why after chapter 4 of Cavalier it gets interesting. If you don't want to know, don't read the spoiler section.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
The main character still is Jae-hyuk -_- .. he is the current Regis of Chaos and is called Nex. Regis Nex. Serin is locked up and in stasis somewhere in his palace. Jae-hyuk's brother has yet to make an appearance but the author has hinted in Q&A that he will in the future. Diffor (this is how the author spells "Dipore", apparently) is still with Nex (aka Jae-hyuk). You will hear more about Xix/Xi<--they can't seem to stay consistent with the spelling (pronounced "Jjai") soon. Osky isn't a bird: the bird is what he is controlling. Osky is a powerful mage. The serpent queen Yuan and the little girl (won't spoil who she is) are the female protagonists for now, so says the author in his Q&A.
Are you fucking kidding me!

Switching/having multiple protagonists has got to be one of the worst rhetorical devices ever conceived by man.
What is the point of having so much of a reader's attention invested in one particular character only to have all of it suddenly usurped? A failed attempt at resurgence/poignance?
Jae Hyuk becoming "evil" is acceptable. The author could slowly interject flashbacks, leading up to the present. The author could palliate things over the course of the story. The author could so on and so forth. There's literally plenty material worthy of supporting or continuing this.
But to randomly insert some random, shitty, daisy-fresh lead? He could be mother-fucking awesome for all I care, and I still would have problems accepting him. Readers subconsciously develop a propensity/likeness for protagonists. This why we hate when the lead gets picked on, and at the same time are much more forgiving if the lead is the one doing the bullying. We, the audience, form a connection. And that that connection we established over six volumes is now taken backseat to this new, little, white-haired, fucking, Jae Hyuk substitute.
"Oh, you're just being stubborn/inflexible." This is probably true, but it doesn't change fact that I don't like it.
Ah, the art is indeed pretty. But now every time I'm reading I'm going to be annoyed by the little nuance reminding me that Jae isn't in the spotlight anymore.
(Seriously this new guy's vengeance is just a rehash of that one guy's. The one who had his dad killed and brother injured. He sets out to kill them all, but it seems like they're not all bad. What a fucking shock~ A tired, unsubtle metaphor for impartiality/racism/equality.)

I recommend you, oh soul not knowing what you're getting in to, that you wait for this Manwha to end, you may risk having health issues with the cliffhangers every chapter. The problem of this story is that it never tells you the complete truths, only half truths (or a quarter of a truth XD) and leaves you to rot in the wilderness while you wait for another piece of the puzzle.
Read at your own peril. I've read until chapter 128 and I just regret retaking this manhwa again (I stopped around chapter 90 some years ago while stopping was still manageable).

Personally I enjoyed Immortal Regis. I had high hope for this sequel. It actually started off good. It was a darker settings and makes one guess as the possibilities of what happened. However, now 78 chapters in, I feel like the author is going off on some weird tangent to draw out an unnecessary event. I wanted to know what happened to Jae Hyuk and Serin, not to go on some development about these other characters who have yet to prove their importance in the story. This series is getting really close to my drop list... If you wanna pick it up, be sure to read IR first and be prepared to be annoyed with more questions than answers.
Good Manhwa but really SLOW

I really hope that the sequel of Cavalier of the Abyss will be released soon after Jungle Juice is done. This is a really good manhwa but it's cliffhangers at every chapter makes you want to kill yourself. It'd probably be best is you wait around 5-10 years before reading this again since binging all of this at once is best since the 3rd part hasn't been released yet and that Cavalier was the 2nd part.

Having Jae return to being the main character would be a god damned good start seeing how it's turned out character-importance-wise so far. (ch6)
Shooo Jyi we don't need an other undead sad about losing a sibling.

Shino, what callmebaboon means is "If you liked the prequel, don't read the sequel or else you will hate what they did with the characters. If you just read the sequel, then it is fine because you don't know how badly they treated them." Hence the "dont ever read the prequal or you will turn end up hate the sequal..." He wasn't saying that he hated the prequel, he didn't say anything like that, so careful on that insult trigger there. ^_^
Better than Prequel, but that's not saying much.

Immortal Regis was crap, didn't resolve anything and plot holes upon plot holes. This one... well it's mystery upon mystery (since it's not finished yet). I mean one mystery is revealed only for two more taking its place. By the latest chapter, the plot line becomes so convoluted that it's annoying as fuck, not to mention the plot progression is very very slow. Is the author expecting this to be like 100+ volumes or something? 16th volumes right now and nothing really happens, and I'm more confused than ever.
It's like watching Korean drama which could be like 50+ episodes long while the Chinese could do it in 20 and with more engaging story telling. They don't drags pointless shit out or introducing loads of characters that adds nothing to the storyline until they actually do.
It's not all that bad, however. The arts is unique in its own way, and more clearer than its prequel so I must be thankful for that. The characters do shine in their interaction with each other, and everyone is somewhat interesting and memorable as a whole. There are weird fan-service and ecchiness in some area if you're into that sort of thing. With that said, I'm more interesting in the storyline, and up to the latest chapter, I must ask myself, is this story going to get anywhere serious soon?

I must agree that the first couple chapters made me go insane with a combination of WTF and REALLY!? and my reading IR really didn't help much. So here I go I will try to Explain

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
So to begin with if you've read IR for the first 24 chapters I believe you will not understand anything its like they just threw you into the book just like purplegeass said. Basically Nex (in my opinion ultra-douche is the best way to describe him.) Is unfortunately yep Jae Hyuk and Serin is imprisoned as his blood bank because she tried to kill him (Which her father knows but does nothing. (good parenting.)) It turns out that around chapter 24 it goes back 2 years after the end of IR and explains everything. He is summoned to some place in chaos where everyone is (sorry I don't remember the name.) Where this girl Iffrita is told to seduce Jae Hyuk which only leads to her falling for him. It continues on and Depore seeing this seduction gets angry and Jae Hyuk and Depore get into a fight where its slips that Serin was sending her blood to him and they talk she almost dies, he cast away his brother, saves the world (for now) and he asks her to marry him (to save the world he had to become Regis aka king.) Iffrita and she asks Mikhail to help her become queen thus hinting toward a conspiracy that Serin may hade made no attempt to kill him, and that in the in end it turns out that she will try to wipe out the daemon clan.
So pretty much from chapter 24 on everything makes sense. Sorry for the update but from 24 on you can see why he isn't a super douche.... Last updated on January 27th, 2012, 5:29am
