I thought this would be a good read at first. And after reading up to the twelve chapters that are out, I ended up getting really frustrated. I feel sorry for the main girl, Nina. She's kind of pitiful in ways cause she's so in love with Kyousuke. I find Kyousuke quite wishy-washy. He's kind to Nina, but at the same time, he rejects her and that sort of sets her hopes up. On another note, the rival girl, I find to be a bitch and a whore lol. Because, she loves her senpai who is cold towards her but she seeks comfort in Kyousuke because he's nice.
Honestly, I want a prince to come and steal Nina away from Kyousuke >__>; See how you feel when that happens. lol Other than that, I'd say its a good story considering it is making me mad enough to rant about it.

It's ok. And by the way, this is not the first manga to have this sort of ending. I have read many similar titles. There are a few things that bother me though.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Early in the manga, if she was really so in love with him, why did she reject his kisses twice. That's not the way to convince someone you love them and want to date them. Also, if he really liked her all along, then why turn down her confession and date someone else. It really makes no sense at all. Last but not least, she seemed to move on rather fast. Under normal circumstances, it would probably be normal to move on in the given amount of time, but I think it was be nearly impossible to move on while living next door to the person and interacting with them on a daily basis.

this is one of a few refreshing manga available out there.
the storyline is somewhat cliche, but my perfect rating goes for the ending.
so I will review about the characters more than the storyline.
Nina - she is not that much of a crybaby to me. She is just a fourteen year old girl and compare to other 'real' crybaby heroines, I think Nina only cries at the right time and I don't find her annoying. when she was broken heart, she didn't spend her time crying or stalking or chasing. instead she keeps standing on her feet and tries to deal with it.
Kyou - he is somewhat... confusing. he is not really a bad boy in my opinion, but his act is totally random. I don't know what kind of reasoning he uses to make a decision. I keep going 'why this, not that?' or 'why now, not then?' every time he decides on something. and Kyou, do tell me, if that what you think about your relationship with Nina, what not try to change it in a way that wouldn't make it worse?
Miyake - now this boy is totally sweet and cute. he is nice, but not a flawless angel. in fact, he does have a lot of flaw. he is typical shoujo character that I always root for, but usualy ended up broken heart. I don't get why he is so genuinely in love with Nina, but in the end his attitude towards her is the one that matters. and I like seeing him together with Nina.
Asou - she's not that hateful for me, though I'd like to know why she has that acute of inferiority complex over relationship.
what I like the most about this manga is everyone makes a mistake, realizes it, and tries to fix it. and in the end, they really got what they deserve.

I'm so happy with the ending! I went through the whole thing thinking 'god please let Miyake and Nina stay together even though he's not the main boy'! This ending was just great, so satisfied!

Oh my goodness!!!
Sprout / Senpai to Kanojo all over again lol!
Well I'll give it more chapter and see if it will not turn out like those two title meaning the girl will be chasing after the guy all over again >_<

Awww. I'm loving this.
I love plots where the main girl loves the guy, who doesn't notice how much he loves her, when he's losing her.
It's also very realistic, and it's always so interesting.

Not great, not terrible.
The reviewers on here are terrible, though, and way too supportive of/into the whole Madonna-Wh*re Complex bull that's such a hackneyed trope in manga.
Asou is flawed, but she really doesn't do anything villainous. She's a human teenager who'd been in a terrible relationship with an older guy who was kinda an a**hole, and she craved positive attention from a boyfriend figure. Kyousuke was a single guy with an attractive personality/appearance.
Everyone caling her a slvt needs to stop and reevaluate themselves.
I personally thought she was an idiot at times, and pitiful at others, but I never thought of her as a true antagonist. She didn't even actively try to sabotage Nina and Kyou's relationship or bully Nina, like any other shoujo villain would.
Nina's actions were more hurtful than Asou's, if we're going to be honest here, though she was never malicious. Nina hurt people with Bad Decisions because she's literally a kid, and as naïve/innocent as a fourteen year old can get.
That said, I did sympathize more with Yuiko than Nina. I sympathized most with Kyousuke, though, and thougght most poorly of Kumagawa.
The art was average - not bad, but not unique or pretty.

I'm not into that kind of cliche shoujo, and if fact, i'm glad this wan.t one of those. Although there are 10 vol, it didn't feel like it was too much to dense, and stuff. It's a very nice, and pretty story, with some parts that maybe would've been better if they were explained a little bit more.
But aside of that, in was finally refreshing and it didn't dissapointed me at all. Even in the extras are things that complete some missing thoughts and feelings. Loved everything, Miyake looks like Roxas though (pretend you didn't read that).
A shoujo like it's supposed to be, more or less. More realistic.
A must read. X3

I'm gonna start off by saying ITS ABOUT TIME. what do i mean by this? Well... it's about damn time someone makes a manga like this, I am so happy about the outcome and I'm so glad It didn't turn out the way I thought it would. It was definitely an interesting and refreshing read.
The art is amazing of course but what I really really really loved is this [WARNING: don't read this comment if you're even 10% sure you might read it]
I loved it I cannot begin to express how great it wrapped up in the end. It definitely destroyed the typical shoujo ending that I'm sure everyone who read this THOUGHT they saw coming and blew people's minds by the twist/shift in the end. LOVED it.
****I seriously recommend this to anyone who wants a taste of something new.

I LOVE. AND I MEAN LOVE that she ends up with Miyake. It's just so much more realistic and refreshing! They go out and start to really love each other and she grows with him and they grow up together. I was so afraid that she would go back to Kyousuke once she realizes how he feels--like a typical shoujo manga would-- but she doesn't! She realizes that she's moved on, she loved Kyousuke and he's important to her but she's fallen in love with someone else and she makes the right choice of getting back together with Miyake.

My prediction went a little bit wrong in a good way

When I first read a few first chapters, I thought: "Well, another typical shoujo. This guy would date that beautiful girl, leaving this Nina girl chasing him forever. The couple will spilt up at some point and Nina will get the guy she wants". When Miyake-kun showed up, I thought: "Well, it's obvious that he likes Nina. They're gonna date and then break up and then she will go back to Kyousuke. After 10 volumns, Nina and Kyousuke would definately end up together."
And as I went on reading, it turned out that my prediction was a little bit wrong, which actually made me relieved and excited. After all, despite being a typical shoujo with the expected love polygon and a cry baby heroine, Tonari no Atashi have a slightly different but still a happy ending. The protagonist finally realized her true feeling and be with the deserving guy
However, this manga would be much better with fewer tears. I love the way Nina became more mature but does she really have to burst into tears almost everytime?
