One of the first mangas I've read

Rating: 10.0  / 10.0
I remember reading this when there was only maybe 5? volumes, and getting excited when the next volume would come out. It's one of the first ever mangas I've read, back when I was still a brat, so I honestly don't remember much of the story. But I do remember how it quickly became one of my favorites during that time, and how I found it absolutely hilarious. I remembered loving it because of how strong the female lead was, and how it wasn't just all mushy lovey dovey like other shoujo mangas.

In fact, I loved it so much I went to seek out and read the mangakas other works. And I loved them all.

I quickly moved on to BL, so I can't say how it fares amongst other shoujo mangas, but this will always have a special place in my heart.

I might reread it again someday, and if I do, I'll update here.

A long journey

This manga starts off really strong
I absolutley loved the beginning - there were parts that were hilarious and adorable
It felt satirical in a way - but that only lasted for a little while
The story takes some wild turns later on that were kind of just exhausting
Sometimes the lead m & f do things that I don't think align with their characters - especially in the middle and towards the end
(It felt like the author just wasnt sure how to keep the story going maybe?)
The constant additions of new love rivals and the will they/wont they back and forth got very tired after awhile - my favorite parts were in between the conflicts
If you make it through it's worth it just to see the main characters (who I think are amazing despite the twists and turns) - I just love to see them happy

actually i think many will enjoy this manga, even though many comments under were not recommending this...
it's OBVIOUS that mangas have it's UPS & DOWNS specially when it's a long one, and this manga is 1 of those, but it's so HILARIOUSLY funny for me and good,..
BUT WHEN YOU HATE A ROMANCE FILLED WITH "RIVAL, RIVAL, RIVAL" then better skip this one...
and if they didn't broke up there once it wouldn't be so real and will make me drop this...
i'll recommend this ^_^

Started really well...

At first this manga was daring and original, especially for a shoujo manga, but then it becomes a typical melodramatic crap that every other shoujo manga turns into. In particular, the strong female lead becomes weak and defenseless out of nowhere for no other reason than to conform to lame standards of shoujo.

Great in the Beginning

I absolutely was in LOVE with this in the beginning. First, you have a male lead who is dark-skinned and doesn't fit the bill of bishounen (though he's still cute). Second, they're both physically strong people that allows for many comedic situations. Third, lots of typical shoujo cliches don't fit here; they go the opposite direction or just don't happen at all.

Then somewhere in the middle it really, like other reviewers have said, goes downhill. Rival after rival is introduced; the main couple seem to draw only psychotic, obsessed people (including family!). Whereas before the main girl could take care of herself, she ends up having to get saved time and time again.

I feel that maybe the mangaka should have just stopped before going typical-shoujo route plus the crazy psycho characters. It really was a wonderful beginning. I suggest reading the first 2 volumes for the good stuff.

Although, the main lead's angry "I'm-gonna-beat-your-butt" faces are priceless throughout the entire thing.

I'm giving this a good rating solely because of the first part. I'd give a 3.5 for the rest of it.

BEWARE

The characters are so dumb and annoying (mentality of 10 year old kids in almost every character, even parents). No rationality found anywhere, decisions characters make are irrational and wrong (sometimes to the point its inhuman).

The comedy would be quite good, if just everything wasn't so damned exaggerated.

All in all it makes me wanna cry, because this would be a good manga, if only it was more realistic and had some common sense.

Don't bother with Honki...

I finished the entire series, including the sequel. Like others before me have said, it kind of goes downhill. The best part about this story is the unique couple. Yusa Chiemi is the typical air-headed protagonist...on steroids. Hirata, on the other hand, is more typical, but that doesn't mean he's boring. In fact, I think the author (and Chiemi) kicks Hirata around way too much that it gets old. Not just physically, but the series is funny and sweet when the two are together! Why do you have to mess with that? Seino just keeps introducing rivals after rivals that the focus of each volume seem to shift towards the rival instead. Everyone becomes BFF's with Chiemi while Hirata is complacently standing in a corner. The comedy of the series is largely slapstick; it's simple but it's great! I loved the surprised expressions of each character than reminds me of series like Gintama. However, the author just doesn't do very well with drama. The episode with Tachibana (and later Yui) are just so sappy and predictable. The only reason I persisted in reading this series is because of my hope that it would go back to a more lighthearted rom-com in later chapters, but boy was I disappointed. Honki does nothing but ditch Chiemi's best friends and bring in more cookie-cutter side characters and rivals in Hirata and Yusa's relationship. The development between Komaki and Oono were totally disappointing, too. It's best to stop reading right when Tachibana shows up now that I think about it.

Fun but then goes down hill.

As others have mentioned the first few volumes are fun and sometimes sweet, but after awhile things just start to get repetitive and it looses some of its luster. Dropped it before it finished.

The beginning was good, but...

The beginning was really funny and good. The characters are well made and there are some characters' development, especially with the main male lead as we keep on reading, but...at some point, around volume 5 or 6, the story line and most characters became pretty «shoujo-generic»...
