1-5) Hitomi no Ounowa
Eight years ago, Yajima and Outomi met in high school, through Ryouko, Yajima's best female friend and Outomi's girlfriend at the time. Ryouko remained in their home town, but Yajima and Outomi moved to Tokyo and remained close friends through university, and after Yajima dropped out. Yajima feels comfortable with Outomi -- unlike with his girlfriend. Then one day Outomi kisses another guy just to see what it would feel like, and Yajima gets agitated beyond what seems reasonable for even a close friendship.

There’s a lot of comments on here saying how this manga is overrated. But this manga set the trend for yaoi to show consensual relationships rather then the usual “rape to love” story.
As a queer person it’s refreshing to see a realistic relationship portrayed in this genre. It opened a whole new door for the genre, and remains one of my all-time favorites.
Also my recommended reading order would be to read the first 17 chapters of this series (vol. 3 ch. 6) before reading the “sequel,” and then returning to finish this one.
Note on their given names: Yakima’s given name is Yukari, sometimes mistakenly translated as Midori. This is because the kanji is the same. The title “Dear Green,” is a joke on his name because midori means green. As for Outomi, his given name is alternately translated as Hiroshi or Kou, also because both of those names can be written with the same kanji.

It's good but in my opinion, the ratings are a bit misleading. I don't usually check te ratings but caught a glimpse of it accidentally so I obviously got my expectations high. It was kind of a let down for me. It's realistic in some sense but it's also very predictable. It's not something fresh that I would even stay to read. I just finished it but the ratings did not match my entire experience reading this. It's good and has it own charms but it doesn't deserve the high ratings.
Well, this read was calming and drama free for the most part. The thing is I read this manga before its said "sequel" which was published in 2003, being oblivious to that, some scenes confused the hella outta me. I was most concerned with the timeline, calculating their months together and putting events chronologically in order, yet somethings seemed to jumb out of the blue, like this particular important event (AKA. Moving together) was totally skipped, the chapter starts where they are magically living together "dafaaaa?" "when did this happen?" "Perhaps there were some pages missing" "let's bust my ass looking for the raws" and guess what, jack squat! Nada! It turns out these particular event (and many more) took place in Dear Green (2003).. so I highly recommend to read the sequel before reading this. If it wasn't for that assumption "people surly read my previous book so let's ignore warning them and missing their heads with unreasonable time skips" I would give this series a solid 8.
This 3 volume series is one of those boys love manga that you just should have read!
It's got a solid, well paced story, very likable, human characters that feel real, and great art.
I was hooked right from the first page to the last, and wouldn't mind it being even longer.
This story has about everything you could want from boys love!
It has tragic moments that make you want to cry, as well as happy ones that make you smile, and a general feel-good story which still is not all rose-colored but instead feels realistic, like it could be happening somewhere right now.
The characters are simply great, lovable and it's easy to understand all their thoughts and worries.
Also sensei's art skill is very high and while not as clean as Yamane Ayano and such, it's still beautiful and I haven't noticed any anatomy errors at all (which a lot of popular mangaka still have!).
All in all, I'd recommend this to absolutely everybody, especially people who want a simple and sweet love story between two friends and follow their path in life, their struggle with their own feelings and how they end up.
If you are like me, and you love stories that develop slower, where you can get to know and love the characters and they do not just jump right into it, but instead you get to anticipate every single moment when something might finally happen between them, then you'll enjoy this!

This isnt one of those yaoi mangas where the couple gets together in one of the first few chapters... Loving someone of the same sex its not something that most straight people accept so fast and easily...
It takes a while to actually get to the actual relationship... And they dont get straight to the sex once they actually decide to be together... If you want graphic sex, you are not gonna get it in this manga... But its especially good in the end where in my opinion, is most romantic

This manga was really refreshing in that it avoided most of the usual yaoi cliches, including exaggeratedly femmy men (HATE that), illogical love triangles, and idiot girls. I can't say that any of the characters are outstanding, but they are portrayed as normal people very well, with more or less genuine behaviors and reactions. The plot is a little unexciting, but this is a nice read for a peaceful evening. If you're looking for smut, this isn't for you, but if you want a decently-paced romance, then certainly, try this one out.
Definitly a slow-phased yaoi, although I wouldn´t want to call it yaoi because it´s basically no graphic sex or that much sex-scenes at all. I liked the plot, but 3 volumes was a bit long, I started to get bored at volume 2. The art was so-so, not good but not necessairly bad either.
What I liked the most was probably the characters, the uke wasn´t typically weak, girly or overemotional. They both gave me the feeling of equals, wich is a rare thing when it comes to yaoi-manga these days.
If you want a realistic, sweet and Slife-of-life kinda story, then you should definitly read this.

There is nothing I don't love about this series. It's not only one of my favourite manga, it's also in my top five of favourite love stories.
This was one of the first manga by Fujiyama Hyouto that I've read, and now that I've read more by her I know that she is really good at taking her time and letting the story unfold slowly. Every time I reread this I'm taken aback by how realistic this feels, and by the way she can say so much with just a look, or a small gesture, between the characters.

This one's unique! I love that the two guys met because of a mutual friend/girlfriend. And that all three are still friends even 5 years later.
The translation was good, the cleaner did a great job, the uke wasn't terrified of sex and the seme wasn't insanely controlling. The dialog is great, the emotions are amazing, and the story is well done. In my book, that's awesome.
By the end of it, I was in love with them both. <3

if you've read too much dramatic/fantasy BL, then you might like this as a refreshment, because the story is very realistic and very 'your everyday life'.......... or not. Uhm well, because unlike in opposite-sex relationship, in reality same-sex relationships dont usually progress that slow. But oh well I leave that to your opinion and life experience.
Anyway, in my personal opinion the story is adorable, but not the kind of series I'd read any day or over and over - it's a story that's enjoyable to read, but I still can postponed it to read other series... it didnt leave a sense of "OMG DYING TO READ NEXT CHAP" to me, I havent finished the last 3-4 chapters until now.
But then again, whether you'll like it or not really depends on the mood you're in and what BL mangas you read before. I'm not agree that liking/not liking realistic BL has anything to do with maturity. In my case I feel like needing more sparks and adrenaline as I age, that I'm not into everyday-BL as much as I was years ago.
