I'm not surprised by all the One Piece comments especially since the artwork does remind me of it. The characters are cute but in essence they haven't really developed as much yet. Like OP, I expect the good part of the initial series to explain the background of the important mages. I DO think this has a plot- mainly a journey/ adventure plot to find Natsu's father.
Fariy Tail is just awesome the drawing really amazing and with the new arc going oneGuild Wars Fairy Tail might gain more fans
Fairy Tail is pretty good.
Overall, it isn't exactly spectacular, and the art isn't exactly great (Or original at that, but that's another issue for another day).
It is, however, a very fun read. The characters for the most part are fun (With the exception of Natsu, who is as boring as it gets). Storyline seems to be going somewhere with the latest chapters (46) and will probably run for a good 20-25 or maybe more volumes.

I'm not the first one to say this but... One Piece is One Piece and Fairy Tail is Fairy Tail.
The pictures and characters may be similar but they are TWO TOTALLY DIFFERENT MANGAS. I get it why but it's also in my opinion illogical to do so. I thought it was written by Oda Eiichiro though, and got a shock thinking he'd finished OP.
Right, anyway, back to comment, so far there isn't really a longterm goal that the characters really want to achieve, but it's taking it's time to flesh out the characters. It's good but it's hard to keep interested in the story.
It's good for a fun (light-hearted) read and you are introduced to some pretty interesting characters as you read along. Though if you're an all go for personal character development, you'll be feeling let down as it isn't quite the central focus of the manga here.

I don't read much fantasy-RPG-ish manga, so I found this refreshing at first, but if the main characters don't get a main objective soon then it'll totally lose its appeal with me. At present I don't think it's all that, just a nice light read.
Now, the title "Fairy Tail" might seem a bit repulsing to some people, because it relates to fantasy and all... but don't let that stop you. This manga is all about adventure, fun, and "what the?!" moments. Its similarity to One Piece often has people comparing and contrasting the two. Fairy Tail is not One Piece (though I love them both). The characters are quite close in semblance but to simply put it, they're different in more than one ways. Hence, you should check it out without pressuring the manga so much by comparing it to the current number one shounen manga out there. Give this manga a shot.

When I first read FT, I thought, "Whoa, it's kinda like OP, isn't it?" But really, look at it. People do say that it's OP's offspring, but it's a lot different, and OP is way better (in my opinion).

I love one piece, but somehow this doesn't really work out for me. First off i hate the whole mage thing. Second off, the main character is Luffy but made to be all cool. Instead of a water weakness this one can't stand transportation, and instead of being a rubber boy this guys is real "cool" with fire and cape and a six pack.
I like one piece because its cute and funny, and fairy tail just isn't that cute and the funny is canned.
