Tohru Honda, an orphaned high-school girl, is taken in by the wealthy Shigure Sohma when he realizes she has nowhere else to go. However, the Sohma family shares a secret, and it isn't long before Tohru discovers that there's a reason why her classmates, Yuki and Kyo Sohma, never let girls get near them, and never talk about their lives before they lived with Shigure. And before she knows it, Tohru has become so tangled up in the lives of each member of the Sohma family that she couldn't leave even if she wanted to.

As she learns more and more about the truth of the Sohma family and the nature of their secrets, she desperately searches for a way that she can save them. But what can one girl do, especially when it seems that she may have been part of someone's plan all along . . .

Fruits Basket received the 2001 Kodansha Manga Award in the shoujo manga category and the "Best Manga" award at the 2007 American Anime Awards.

anyone else notice that this manga has the display of the worst parents ever in the history of the manga? all the parents are disowning, hating, pressuring and ignoring their children! glad my parents aren't like that :D

fruit baskets is really good and on top of my list, however the anime is bad compared to the manga it's sad that the anime was finished before the manga cause if they would of done it right it would of been awesome; wish they had a second season or something but it won't happen

This is my all-time favorite manga by far! ^^! A friend told me about the anime a while ago, I watched it, and fell in love with it --despite the fact that the ending doesn't make justice to the show v_v -- and then I started reading the manga from Mangaproject and just became a Furuba-addict. The manga beats the anime in so many aspects and the stories of the characters as well as the plot just stole my heart --i've NEVER EVER before laughed so hard nor actually cried with a manga, but furuba has all those elements that make you do such things ;) simply can't get enough furuba ^^ and Kyo ROX!!

its a great anime (with bad final) and an awsome manga with already 17 volumens finished and working in the 18th yet (i mean translaction), a long shoujo story that doesnt lose its charm ^__^ most ppl can enjoy it (boys, girls, kids and old ppl like me) and ill praise the autor cuz furuba surprise me always, not like harry potter where u know who is the bad guy very easy. it has a good staff, good story line, not great art but its good enough, etc.. etc.. i dk what they r waiting for to make a 2nd season i just want to see it and hear it too º__º and not only read it, if i could, ill eat it too =P

The scanlators have done a great job with this manga. The manga itself is addictive and the art just gets heaps better. Compare Tohru and Yuki from the later volumes to how they were in the earlier volumes, and you'll see what I mean.
