A great manga comes with a great anime.

Cardcaptor Sakura is indeed. A great manga comes with such an excellent anime. But since most people from this community are already aware of it's manga. I'll take my review on the anime of Cardcaptor Sakura. The anime isn't really all shoujo-ish for only 9-12 years old kids to enjoy but it is a good watch for all ages (despite it's cute animation style). The anime tells further meaning in each episodes, whenever I watch this anime over again it'll leave me with such a pleasant and warm feelings.

Season 1 :
Introduction season, in this season the whole plot mainly focus on Sakura on how she'll manage to catch the Clow cards. Many supporter characters were introduced in this season.

Season 2 :
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
At the very end of season 1, new supporter character (which first are thought as an antagonist character) Kaho Mizuki appear to support Sakura from the back before the "Last Judgment" by Yue (Moon guardian keeper).
Throughout this season, the series has gotten more dark.

Season 3 :
In the last season the series is now more dark and serious,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
the first antagonist character in the series were introduced. "Eriol" appear to attack Sakura from the behind in every episodes during this season. At the end, Eriol isn't really an antagonist. At the very end of the anime he has somehow changed to "Supporter characters" group from being an antagonist character.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The anime never have an antagonist character/s actually.
But it got many valuable moral values.
I never really appreciate anime this much. I've watch many manga to anime adaptation series but none of them are excellent as Cardcaptor Sakura. If you were to watch this anime NEVER watch the dubs, the original Japanese audio would totally do. In this rare case, I will also leave my 10/10 rate for this series.
I highly recommend this anime for all those serious anime lovers.

the most complete genre so far : Het, Shonen ai, shoujo ai, shota-con, Lolita. I read it because of shonen ai (not that much, though), but I enjoy the story. so much shoujo-ish (Shoujo hero), but it's still fun to read

I read the manga last year (2011) but even after I grew up, I didn't get bored at all while reading it. This anime plus Pokemon, Inuyasha, Shin Chan and Ranma are my best childhood memory.
The manga got a really interesting story, a great development of it, great characters, and such a cute art. It truly deserves the award it won.

Beautiful art and story, as expected from Clamp.
Although this is supposively targeted at a younger audience, it does have various mature themes that raise an eyebrow. Honestly, when i first read/watched this when i was in elementary school i didn't pick up on any of those themes-- haha. Naiveness.

Interesting storyline, pretty good art, cute characters, and really cute fluff. It's a great manga that's suitable for all ages. I understand that some things are controversial in this series, but that's one thing that make it interesting. I recommend this to anyone who loves cute manga series. ^_^

THE anime/manga that introduced me to the anime/manga world!! I dont care what people say about sailor moon or DBZ kicking starting anime for American girls and boys, CCS is epitome of the anime/manga industry...Do i sound bias? Yep but without CCS leaving me such a great impression to anime/manga i doubt i would have ventured thus far into this industry. Plus kudos for CLAMP to be unafraid of adding subtle hints of shonenai and shojoai (I dont understand why ppl exclaim that there MUST be warnings for them -_- )as well as plausible love triangle and good love development transition. 10 out of 10! What else would it be?

I really love this series. Its very cute and charming. I'd recommended it to anyone who wants some thing cute and fun to read that doesn't ever get dark or depressing. It has a good ending and likable characters. No one is really evil and everyone is relatively nice to each other.

aimed at kids, but has some child-inappropriate material

This manga is very much aimed at little girls, with a generally kiddy feel, the magical girl theme, and with cute romance being pretty important. But there are many homosexual crushes and also a pedophilic (9-year old girl with an adult teacher) relationship featured and treated as if they were perfectly acceptable, which is not appropriate, especially for children. Kids aren't ready to deal with such sexual matters, so this manga really isn't suitable for children.

That major issue aside, this is a pretty fun and charming magical girl manga. That's why it's really a shame that Clamp included material that's not appropriate for children. I would prefer a little more action
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
(for example, Sakura has fights with card spirits, but these are handled in a pretty fluffy way--they are kept simple and short, and she usually defeats them with magic in a way that nobody gets remotely hurt)
but the way things are kept fluffy and how no one gets hurt helps keep things more aimed at girls and kid-friendly. It also keeps the "charming and cute" mood for the series. The plot was pretty interesting as well, not as simple as you might think when reading the first few chapters.

With respect to comedy, CCS pretty much misses the mark entirely; however, unless you really want to read comedy, I don't think it's a big deal. Almost all of the jokes feel over-exaggerated, forced, and too silly. Don't expect to laugh or even to be amused; instead, just ignore them--comedy isn't a focus of this manga, and it doesn't need it anyway.

As for romance, it does get important in the series, and I'm not very much into romance, but it's kept pretty charming and doesn't get mushy or melodramatic, so I think it appeals to both people who love romance and to those like me.

The major criticism I have is the art. I thought from looking at the cover that the art would be really good, like Clamp's recent stuff. But looking inside, I found that this is from Clamp's not-so-great-art phase, where they would draw the adults way too tall, the men with huge shoulders but tiny waists, their faces too long and narrow and with jawbones that are too straight so that the face has a terrible triangular shape with an ugly pointy chin, their arms and legs really long and skinny, very thick, dark, and long eyebrows (even on characters with light-colored hair), and things like that. Some of it is unbearably ugly (men's faces in particular). Only the adults are drawn badly, though--the kids look just fine (except for the girls' eyes, which are drawn in that ugly gaping style, where the top eyelash is even higher than the top of the pupil & iris. It's just a mild case of this style, though--I've seen much worse). Art is very important to me, so I have a big problem with this. It would be great if this manga were redrawn with Clamp's current style (Chobits, Tsubasa), which has improved into something very beautiful.

i loved this manga from the bottom of my heart, it was one of my first ones, and i was so into it i never wanted to end. i cried that at the ending of cardcaptor sakura, not the master of the clowd. anyway, i used to spent the whole day reading it, watching it, or making video clips with music over it.
i love the two main character, the way how they are so innocence, yet do strong when they battle, i love how CLAMP changed the main characters clothes everytime she battles. I never have thought that it dragged or rushed. i thought CLAMP nailed this manga.
the plot was just carefullly planned out, everything clears out at the end (master of the clowd)
and also if ur looking for something that is action, with fast moving magic, then this is not it, they is no super super evil person in this manga.
it is one of my childhood books.
if could watch the anime too! biggrin
