A bit of everything: a great reading

All the stories scanlations are available, I had no problems in find any of them. I really adore Kunieda-sensei's works, I think I read everything that is available. This book is one of my favs because all stories (including the crazy scifi delirium that closes the book) are great, well written and beautifully drawn. The Guardian is dark and mysterious, almost a horror story like Edgar Allan Poe's stories; Show me Heaven is a bright, poetic and touching story about love; Sora no Uragawa is poignant and terrible and A Chance Encounter in the Cosmos is hysterical. As the other works of Kunieda-sensei, this one is definitely a good reading and very different than the conventional yaoi.

um...wow. i took a chance and read these and i admit the stories were original and they kept you intrigued to the end. yet they were sooo bizarre and wild. i think i like the tame better. but it was an interesting read.

Darkest...

Wow, I didn't know Kunieda sensei could write like that. Absolutely brilliant. I think "Show me Heaven" could actually be the weakest story of the lot - and even that rates an 8 from me (I only have five 10 ratings on my list, so 9 is considered excellent).
EDIT: "A Chance Encounter" has got to be the funniest, most insane, yaoi romp I've ever had the privilege to read. Thank you BAA for the final chapter.

. . .goes my emotions and thoughts! I don't give out many 10s, but this one definitely rates.

The Guardian, Show Me Heaven and Sora no Uragawa are all three magnificent works of illustrative and story-telling art. The characters and their combine journies are unforgettable.

Although The Guardian is a one-shot, it pulled me right in. The story telling perspective was unusual and intriguing. The three main characters had depth to them and, even though i would be very happy and wouldn't complain if offered MOAR of the albino and servant boy's story, I am so moved by the power of the ending that I am entirely pleased with the beginning, middle and end!

Show Me Heaven was a crisis moment story. The salary man with the suffocatingly 'circumspect' personality meets just the right person for what he needs at a crisis moment. The free-spirited soul meets this serious 'adult' figure that he needs in his lonely life of meaningless relationships. They both have something to give the other and that the other direly needs. Told with deftly chosen words and beautifully illustrated emotions.

Sora no Uragawa was the longest of the three. Again, it did not disappoint. This mangaka consistently tells stories that are affecting, beautiful and poignant. This one, I had mixed feelings about the ending, but decided that it was apt. The 'memory' of human does indeed sometimes do what it has to in order to save oneself from insanity and horrible pain. I think, if i HAD to pick, this one was my favourite. The characters were all very well-developed and multi-faceted. No one was purely good or purely evil. They just were.

I'm looking forward to A Chance Encounter in the Cosmos and will definitely follow this genius mangaka!

What can I say...

Can I shoot those three who voted '1'? No? Mmmkay.

Maybe this is the darkest of Kunieda-sensei (whom I love). Quite unnerving since I basically love more bright stories. Still this is a compilation of awesome, amazingly well drawn stories. Though I can't say it's recommended for those who are faint-hearted, I still wish you'd read it anyway because this kind of fine yaoi is definitely not as many as fishes in the ocean, on the contrary it's quite rare.

For 'Show Me Heaven' alone I might give a rating close to 10. It's sweet, touching and romantic, which is my cup of tea. However the best story I think would be "Sora no Uragawa".

Ohh edited to add that though I can appreciate sensei's craziness with Cosmos, maybe many would wanna skip this last oneshot. There's a reason why its scanlation isn't availablebigrazz

Of these stories, I've only read Show Me Heaven so my rating is based on that alone. This is such a great story. The "skinny angel" and the "closed-minded" salaryman are a wonderful couple. The story has both comedy and pathos. The art is beautiful.

The drawings and the story are wonderful as always, the story is quite tragic. Do not recommend if you are depressed.
