Pretty bad, yeah...

The rage this series is generating is quite funny.

Basically: It's a really dumb story. loosecannon504's rant covers things nicely.

I haven't finished it yet - haven't decided if I will or not. But yes, it's all kinds of bad. The author clearly doesn't care about anything making sense to the point where it gets a bit painful. Seriously, you can't just ignore that one character tried to rape another once the chapter's over. That's really awkward.

If you're going to start this, turn off your brain as much as possible, and don't read too much at a time. It's kinda fun sometimes, but the brain-numbing stupidity, poor-to-nonexistent plot, and vapid characters are ... well - may be a problem depending on your tolerance for that sort of thing.

ok people. I am tired of reading all of your negative comments espically the ones that say it lacks "character development" or it gets "repetitive". S*^t what series doesn't get repetitive after a while. loosecannon504 your comment made me even angrier than what i already was today. so let me explain a few things to all of you critical IDIOTS out there.

FIRST: IF THE MANGAKA WANTS TO PORTRAY HIS CHARACTERS IN A CERTAIN WAY, THEN LET HIM. THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN SAY OR DO THAT CAN CHANGE THE CREATORS MIND. THE CHARACTERS ARE THE WAY THEY ARE FOR A REASON. PERSEPTION VARIES FROM PERSON TO PERSON. SO SAYING THAT THE CAHRACTERS AREN'T ACTING LIKE THE MONSTER THEY REALLY ARE WELL THATS TOO BAD. WE CAN'T HAVE MOKA START ACTING LIKE COUNT DRACULA BECAUSE WE'D LOSE OUR PRIMARY FEMALE LEAD. KURUMU CAN'T GO STEALING THE LIFE FORCE FROM OTHER PEOPLE BECAUSE SHE'S ALREADY SWORN NOT TO USE HER POWERS TO WIN TSUKUNE AND BECAUSE SHE'D BE AN ANTAGONIST(sorry if my spelling is off).

SECOND: HOW MUCH CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT DO YOU EXPECT IN TEN VOLUMES OF MANGA?! THE FIRST SERIES SETS THE STAGE FOR SEASON 2 AND THAT'S WHERE THE REAL CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT BEGINS. ALTHOUGH TSUKUNE AND MOKA STILL HAVEN'T KISSED YET THE BOND BETWEEN THEM CONTINUES TO GROW STRONGER. AS FOR THE OTHER GIRLS THEY GET TO BE IN LIMELIGHT NOW STARTING MAINLY WITH MOKA'S SISTER, THEN KURUMU, THEN MIZORE GETS A WHOLE LOT OF ATTENTION, THEN TSUKUNE, AND THEN YUKARI. RUBI GETS SOME HERE AND THERE BUT YOU NEED TO GIVE THEM TIME.

THIRD: COMMON SENSE? YOU PEOPLE REALLY EXPECT A MANGA TO HAVE COMMON SENSE?! WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON IN YOUR HEAD IF YOU'RE GOING TO SAY THAT LACKS COMMON SENCEconfused?! HERE'S A LITTLE NEWSFLASH FOR YOU IN CASE YOU DIDN'T KNOW. ROSARIO+VAMPIRE IS A WORK OF........F-I-C-T-I-O-N! WHAT DOES THAT SPELL? FICTION! FANTASY! NEED I SAY MORE? OH AND IF YOU REALLY WANT A STORY WITH PLOTHOLES CHECK OUT MY PERSONAL FAVORITE RANMA 1/2.

THIRD: WAIT DO I HAVE A THIRD THING?.....................................OH YEAH THE PRIDICTABILITY OF ROSARIO IS PART OF WHAT MAKES IT SO GREAT. I KNOW THAT EVERYONE'S ENTITLED TO THEIR OWN OPINION BUT IT JUST REALLY MAKES ME ANGRY WHEN I READ NEGATIVE COMMENTS LIKE SOME OF THE ONES POSTED HERE. ROSARIO+VAMPIRE IS A CROSS BETWEEN A REGULAR HAREM AND A MAGICAL GIRLFRIEND. ALSO I KNOW THAT TSUKUNE IS WEAK, AND KIND OF BORING, AND ALMOST EVERYTHING THAT EVERYONE HERE HAS SAID ABOUT HIM BUT HE'S THE MAIN CHARACTER OF A SHOUNEN SERIES WHAT DO YOU EXPECT?! AND BESIDES WE ALL KNOW THAT TSUKUNE WERE REAL HE WOULD HAVE DIED BEFORE MOKA EVEN GOT A CHANCE TO INTRODUCE HERSELF.

now i'd like to say i'm sorry if what i wrote offended anyone or anything. but you people cant be so critical about this series. try to find at least two good things about it before you post a negative comment please and i mean two things other than the artwork and fanservice.

anyways i love this series. its not THE BEST harem that i've ever read but its pretty good and fyi i didn't turn off my brain and say "look at all the pretty pictures" while i was reading it. as a guy i didn't mind the fanservice but in reality it really doesn't do anything for me anyways. i did think that the ways that tsukune pulled of mokas rosario were completly pulled out of the ass though. fiction or not just happening to brush against it in a pinch kind of bugged me. art work was much better in the later volumes and even though the whole friendship thing is overplayed you really cant do a thing about it since thats what most shounen series are centered around. plot really picked up in the third volume. overall i give it about a 9

Truthfully, the beginning was plain horrid. It felt like filler... in a manga...? I guess it helped with some character development, but it was a little too much to me.

Once the plot picks up, it becomes an extremely good read. If the beginning is un-appealing to you, try to stick it out and get to the plot-line. It is definitely worth it!

In my opinion this is actually a very good manga...the begging is rather dull and the art work is a bit low but if you keep reading the story turns in a really good one and the art gets better and better!
I suggest reading this manga plus the season 2! \/ ^_^

I though it was a pretty good manga. A lot of what happens is repetitive so its pretty easy to guess whats going to happen next. It lacks the romance I was expecting it to have. Hopefully season 2 improves.

*note*: I have only read up to Ch 5, so the review stems from only those chapters, and hence I have not bothered with a numerical rating, since I think it'd be unfair to (somewhat) arbitrarily assign a number rating to something I'm not completely familiar with.

My interest in this series came from two things: 1. the series is complete, and 2. I'd just finished reading 'Dance in the Vampire Bund' (which I highly recommend) and thought vampires were totally cool.

As others have stated, there's not a whole lot to like aside from the artwork. The mangaka vilifies all males aside from the moronic main character (typical of most titles in the harem genre). This guy in particular has 0 redeeming qualities, even less so than Keichi from 'Ah! My Goddess' and way less than Minato from 'Sekirei'. There's a fair amount of fanservice, but far less than you'd find in the aforementioned Sekirei. Most of the characters are cute, but a bit young, so the fanservice does nothing for me in particular. The only character I seem to like is the adorable young witch. Cute little kids are my weak point (since I have one of my own ^_^).

Simply put, this work does not stand out in any of the genres it is associate with. If you're looking for lulz, a plot, compelling characters, and fanservice, I'd recommend you look elsewhere. Honestly, I don't plan on finishing this series. You're better off looking to another series, but if you MUST read one that's complete, I s'pose you could have a gander at this one.

Apparently this manga has been getting praise... Other than the art I can't really recommend this one.

Tsukune is irritating to say the least. To him, every other character that's not female seems to be expendable. "Ah (Insert Female) can't be a bad person." On the other hand there is no quandary for declaring a male evil.

There's also the glaring lack of an organized administration or government. Apparently it's perfectly plausible for students to be killed left and right, or to have a student usurp the balance of the world. There's literally nobody except Tsukune and the girls there to right wrongs.

The class disparity is another annoyance. Monsters are ranked and from what the manga shows, that order is law. Pretty much if you're not an S class, you've got no hope in a fight, no matter how hard one trains etc. Just look at the rank of the monsters before a fight and you'll know who wins.

I don't mind cliche things as long as their still interesting, but R+V isn't. You've got the cookie-cutter "demon/kickass mode" that enacts when a friend gets hurt. And you won't see Tsukune going all vampire to beat up a girl. Conveniently, every person Tsukune hits is male. Every evil girl will A. Join his Harem B. Disappear C. Turn out to be good D. Blah, blah, blah.

The harem genre gets treated lightly because crap like this is made. What happened to the difficulty of choosing a girl/guy? Or the ambivalence in love that effects valid indecisiveness. Everything about the characters and their relationships is dispensible.

And looking at Helzagore's pathetic attempt at debunking loosecannon504's review... Full of mistakes, and aiming to defend story elements that loosecannon504 didn't even comment on.

I didnt intend to make a comment about this manga but recently there was many opposite comment about.
Firstly, the artwork is great, a lot of fanservice, it's fun and the action part is alright. At least, it deserves more than 5 point with it. The idea is interesting "A human in monster school" but it wasn't developed well as I expected. The mangaka trys to make a mix of school life and monster but i does not work well, yeah I agree it is really lack of common sense most of time. The author start cutting off the school life part make it more seriously monster world story in season 2, hope that it will be better.
The heroin is ok, in my opinion he is a bit better than other typical harem male lead, the different personality of Rosary is interesting.
Truthfully, I never think that the mix of Shounen + Harem + ecchi + (fantasy) is not the kind of manga you can take it seriously. Just enjoy the way it is.

Seriously, I had high hopes for Rosario+Vampire, seeing as everyone raves about it, but found it extremely disappointing. The characters are weak, and all of them have basically the same background story, and I didn't find any of them even remotely likeable, especially the main, Tsukune, who is devoid of personality.
It is ridiculously repetitive. Basically the same story every chapter with different 'villains', although I use the word villains loosely, as no matter how powerful they are they are instantly deafeated by the 'most powerful of all supernatural beings' the super vampire, basically created for the story by the mangaka, and conveniently there to save Tsukune every time he goes and tries to fight anyone. Which, incidentally, only causes more problems for Moka and the gang. Who never really form real relationships, lets face it. They just stay together due to general unpopularity with the rest of the student body.
One thing that REALLY annoyed me, when the lame fire fox decides to bring about justice, how come he uses a tip-off from a JAILED EX-TEACHER/CHILD MURDERER? What a hypocrite. And how did he suddenly arrive at the conclusion that it wouldn't be a problem to publicly execute the whole club?
The romance is awful too, Tsukune loves Moka based on her looks really. And he remains a pervert throughout.
Don't read it. Whoever told you it was a great read, was likely a moron, because I could have gotten the gist of the story if I had been reading it unconscious.
loosecannon504 said everything I was thinking. Read that comment, it's easily the most useful of all of them.

Liked this.Story and plot is quite interesting when you give it some time, and dont judge it to be cr¤p after first couple chapters. For loosecannon504's dictionary lenghed complain, Id just answer that manga crew tried to make characters more humane. Considering that it falls to those listed genres, you most likely wont find guts ripped open and heads impale to stakes..

If you like mild echi and humor seasoned romance/action manga with high variation of personalities and tastes, I suggest you to read. If you are after absolute fast moving blood/gore/gunfight etc etc etc as well as each and every page filled with bare skin and such, I wouldnt deeply consider to have 10/10 worthy enjoyment.
