Description
There was once a hero who vanquished the darkness of the land and liberated the people. He then built a kingdom, and had his descendants rule as kings. Although they had ruled the land for so many years, in reality, political power was being wielded solely by the aristocrats of each region.

One day, this seemingly peaceful kingdom was disturbed by the mysterious death of the principal heir to the throne. The sequence of events that this assassination set into motion, would soon come to involve all of those with the right to become the next king...

Iffy Beginning...

I'll be revisiting this series later on since I believe there's a reason for its popularity. The current problem I'm having with it, though, is that all of the characters are dumber than a sack of $#@!. There might be two, possibly even three, characters that reach middle-school level reasoning while the others scrape very near the surface of mental retardation.

Childish Reasoning Examples
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I changed everything I believed in because of a girl I like...
My dad's dad said this was true so it must be true, and I'll just kill anyone who says otherwise... even if what they say makes perfect sense....
I can't die because I need to save other people so I'll just die...
I told everyone what to do afterwards and that saved them from what just happened.

- - - - - -
Edit - I'd rather not bicker with the response above, but I will say I've already given this series up. I tried reading it once again now that more chapters have been released, and yet my thoughts remained the same (if not worse). Test this out if you want though it isn't something I'd ever recommend to a friend.

More interesting than it looks

The description makes it sound pretty cliched, and I started reading very reluctantly; but after the first few chapters, the story started to become quite mysterious and intriguing.

The characters give the first impression of being rather stereotypical. There's the wonderful and responsible older brother (and crown prince), the polite and mellow but rather mediocre second brother, the fiery and rebellious (albeit good-natured) third brother (who also happens to be treated with contempt because he is the king's illegitimate child), the haughty and high-minded youngest sister, the scheming and unfaithful military and political advisors, the mysterious rescuer who arrives like a bolt from the blue to try and save the kingdom for no reason in particular...you get the idea. However, you would be foolish to give up on +C: Sword and Cornett because of these initial appearances. Very soon, most of the characters change for the better and become very interesting; their actions in later chapters are not in the least cliche. So long as you have patience, you will soon find yourself being drawn in to this manga.

The art isn't very good; it's rather commonplace and not pretty or elborate, but is clear enough that you can always figure out what's going on, even during fast-paced action sequences...so that's good enough for me.

Summing it up; at the end of Volume 5, the storyline remains gripping and has just begun gathering momentum. Hopefully, the conclusion will not disappoint.

It's decent...

I was actually looking for something with very intense plotting, layered characterisations and very tight pacing.

This manga is okay: it doesn't really fulfill any of the above but it'll satisfy those who're looking for an easy fantasy read. My main problem is that the characters often feel like props for the ongoing storyline but I didn't feel any sort of anticipation to see what would happen nor was I ever drawn into the story. (Yep, I read all the way until Chapter 25 and even read it all twice.)

Also, do note the art evolves quite a lot and so, many characters look very different over the next few volumes. But some of the characters look too similar though and there's barely anything to tell them apart. Seriously, I've seen better character designs from artists with lesser skills.

incomplete review

I really don't like commenting something that is still ongoing, but I do feel that the description here does this manga little to no justice.... and sometimes even the cover art is this way too.

Art: The art is very inconsistent, which is very unfortunate. I'm not referring to the little details so much as how characters are drawn in general. Belca is referred to as being younger than his brother Orcelito, but is drawn such that he looks older. A couple of characters changed in appearance since when then first shown up. It's not that they got older, lost an arm or anything else. They are just drawn differently. While this is explained a bit in the extra pages for Volume 4, it does give the feeling that the art direction and characters were not planned out in any sense before they show up.

Story: The plot is a lot more interesting that the description on this page lets on. Really you should give it a chance as it isn't so cliched. Sometimes things seem very predictable in terms of the direction that things are going, it does do a decent job of occasionally tricking the reader such that you're still surprised at times without becoming convoluted. As others have stated already, the plot is extremely easy to follow.

Not good

The art is decent at times, but not consistent as some spots its rough and sketchy. The plot is ok and shows some promise with the whole conspiracy and assassination stuff. Chapter lengths are good as they run about 30-50 pages each so far. However, I only read up to chapter 5 and couldn't get any further. For such long chapters there is very little going on, but what is worse is the atrocious dialogue. In some spots its ok, but in others its like the author didn't know what to say and wrote anything that came to mind. Then there are some scenes that are so stupid that it boggles the mind:

Spoiler (highlight to view)
In one scene Belca falls off a cliff and presumably to his death, but luckily he lands on a bear (killing it) which cushions his fall. Oh really? I guess this is supposed to be funny or something? Please spare me. In another scene Belca is able to sneak into the palace when a convenient cart starts spilling thousands of gold coins and the owner cries out "the coins I collected little by little illegally." It stuff like this that makes me cringe.

Sorry but this is just not excellent nor is it even good. It deserves a low score.

I have to say I was more than kept onto the manga at first just by good art, but the plot itself is interesting. However, character development seems to be... a little out of whack, jumping up and down.

What's good is that there aren't blatant heroes and - heck - thrown with a bit of humor and cheesy embarrassment, it makes for one of those small jewels you don't find everyday - not as popular but not dull and too clichéd. I'd recommend this for anyone who just wants to relax and enjoy some whimsical fantasy (with enough realism to make it believable).

I went through 14 chapters in 1 day and I wish there were more. Its very engrossing and it kills off characters who you'd think would be main parts of the story, which is a good change from most other series *cough bleach cough*. I dunno though, the manga sorta leans toward shounen AI and has some similarities to Kyo Kara Maoh.

Very well laid out

I agree with Kujika for the most part; a nice review. The story is so far very straightforward but also well organised and the suspense is very well manipulated to make an amusing and gripping read.
The characters are still only beginning to be formed but by following caricatures, so far, they have been given robust personalities with which you can immediately sympathize.
I disagree with his rating for the art though. Although there are faults in the details and lines and it is fairly simple, the beautiful presentation leaves a very nice overall effect not only easy to follow but also worth a pause to admire from time to time. The character design is also effective and clear.
In conclusion, very promising; now we just need some more chapters!

Pretty Good

So far I have no complaints. The story is interesting, and even though in the beginning I thought it might become a little predictable, there have been a few unforseen plot points so far (and things mentioned in passing that might be important to the plot later on). The author does a nice job of keeping the suspense up, and I really love the art. Like mentioned before, it's still to early to comment on the characters.

I'm looking forward to the chapters to come!

Suspenseful so far

Story:
Spoiler (highlight to view)
The plot seems pretty naive. Still it's impossible to tell with only 3 chapters, but so far we have the royality, the bastard prince, the evil manipulators and the mysterious rescuer.
It's very supenseful so far, therefore I'll give story 9/10.

Art:
The lines often aren't very clear, but it's neither rushed nor very detailed and all kind of situations (battle or whatever) are drawn in a way easy to comprehend. I'd call it pretty average, yet it fits the manga. 7/10

Characters:
It's far too soon to tell since no character really touched my heart yet in any way.
