Description
For 820 years he had slumbered with no knowledge of mankind's advancement and scientific progress. The land which he once knew has become an unfamiliar place with new technology, attitudes, and lifestyles. Upon awakening, Cadis Etrama Di Raizel (called Rai), seeks to familiarize himself with this era. He locates a loyal servant of his, Frankenstein, who is currently the principal of a high school in South Korea. Rai decides that this school is the perfect place to help him learn about the modern world, enrolls, and begins associating with a group of good-natured students in order to 'blend in.' But this new world is no safer than the old; and the dignified, bewildered, technologically inept Rai finds himself embroiled in adventures both ridiculous and dangerous.

Would *have* give*n* it a 20/10 if possible *back when it was great*.

You must read it. That is all. Girls should provide earplugs to neighbours and relatives/flatmates as you WILL be constantly squeeing over all the bishonens. Guys may have to provide the same things due to their yells of "OH SHIT!", "AWWWW YEEEAAAH", "BADASS" and "OH THAT F**KER IS GOING DOWN".

EDIT: Ok as some other's have noted this series is getting draggy. After more exposure to manhwas I realize that Korean authors love their cliffhangers like I love my coffee: As many as I can get in as little amount of time as possible. This makes the series go rapidly from enjoyable to downright frustrating as you never feel sated with the one chapter you're given. There is a fine line between teasing your readers with what is to come and giving them nothing but crumbs. 16 pages per chap on average and you can count those that don't end on a cliffhanger with one hand. My rating will stay above "average" out of respect for the fun times I had with the series, but it surely isn't nearly as entertaining as it was before.

This is pretty much your average shounen series bundled with an overly dreamy bishounen cast usually found in a shoujo setting, which is a very good formula to *cough* appeal to readers of both genders . The fights themselves are pretty much what you expect, we have power levels (I think the main character himself refers to some kind of 'eye-level'), constant one-upping, scrapping the power limiter, more hidden powers, and then power levels a few more times, and then the overpowered final boss steals the spotlight, every single time.

But of course, we're not here for some kind of realistic combat or a struggle for survival in a post-apocalyptic world. We're here for handsome elegant vampires doing elegant things, badass scientist fighting in mid-air, our most venerable protagonist dazzling every girl within sight, and inappropriate humor. Did I mention it is fully colored and gorgeous?

Must Read Manhwa

At first glance, Noblesse doesn't look any different when compared to other typical Shounen manga but that is certainly not true. The Manhwa itself is filled with deeps morals and integrity of humanity along with what true friendship and companionship should really be. Though the story may not be perfect, Noblesse is still a work of extraordinary virtue and valor.

Though many people tends to compare the characters of Noblesse to existing characters of other manga, I for one believe that the characters in Noblesse are quite unique in their rightful aspects. Unlike other Shounen manga Noblesse doesn't always discern with just Good v.s Evil, nor does it try to make the audience hate a character only to have them loved later on. Noblesse does a great job with the grey area between good and evil and would place that aspect into many of the characters. Good who choose to walk evil's path and evil that choose to do good.

As for the story, I won't say that it is perfect but it is definitely better than average. A lot of people say that it is repetitive but I like to see it as character growth. It is not just about the weak getting beat by the strong and evil getting conquer by good. With each battle, the past of those who are involve gets revealed to the audience. And has these past are revealed, we get closer and closer to the bigger picture. That is what I like about Noblesse. It is predictable in its nature yet unpredictable because of its uniqueness.

7/10. The highest rating that I've ever gave to a manga/Manhwa. Noblesse is not perfect and so I won't give it a 10 but it is definitely a "Must Read" in my list.

I am trying to figure out what the whole appeal is to this series...it truly is very simple.

The plot isn't really intriguing; it also felt too familiar, not entirely unique enough.

The male leads are painfully bishounen. Maybe I am just too old (Who knows, maybe I would have liked it back when I was 16?) but it wasn't for me. These guys are very sparkly emo pretty with eyeliner and piercings.

I will say that the art can feel quite fresh, much dibs to that, it's not like others. But sometimes the scenes can be tiresome or too "empty", and there are plenty of them. I agree with Ibleda about the webcomicy feel about the whole thing too.

I wonder if maybe the series was created to dip into a hype - offerring prettyness and a cliched storyline, thinking this was enough for a particular type of general audience. In a sense, dumbing down on purpose thinking it is for a dumbdowned group of readers. Which, in context, should feel a bit insulting.

If you do want a light, temporary and colourful read, then go for it, there is no harm in that. But if you are more interested in more a intricate, original, mature, and detailed plot with truly complex characters, reach for another series.

Additionally, if you are also a grown adult, reach for another series.

I'm sorry, but it is a bit overrated. I know some folks will likely feel all heated, defensive, throwing the usual silly "Haters" line, but have to say it like it is. (Funny how some people can get all fussy because others have legit opinions on why they don't like something. People who have read and disliked Noblesse have moved on with their lives, surely the fans can do the same thing instead of complaining or insulting)

This is by far the best shonen currently on air, the main character Rai fascinates me, I've always wanted a manga where the protagonist was the strongest since the very beginning, but even if he is the strongest you'll be hooked by a magnific plot and the awesome characters so as by the funniest scenes that you have and will ever see. If I had to say something bad about noblesse would be that you will die waiting for the weekly release since the author likes cliff hangers too much, well actually the only bad thing is that noblesse causes a very high addiction and dependence.

I honestly love this manhwa. It's interesting, funny, mysterious, has a bit of a nostalgic comic book feel to it at parts, has beautiful, "elegant" artwork, and is of course chock full of bishie heroes and side characters. It has some drawbacks (for example sometimes you want to look at something in between the achingly beautiful and grotesquely deformed from too much power--and other times you wish the main character would stop sipping tea and do something, or at least say something) but in my opinion the positives far outweigh these things. The art and style change a whole lot through the course of its very many many chapters (some like the change, some don't--I like it) and the plot has its high action parts and much slower humor mini-arcs where Rai gets lost, sips tea, and he and Frankie watch lively high schoolers play board games and mess up their clean home. It breaks up the action nicely and gives a chance to be lighthearted in between all the sciency supernatural plot thickness.

BEST EVER!! + 5 years later revisit
Rating: 7.0 / 10.0

10/10 Just started reading it the other day and it's so addicting! It starts out a little slow, i mean all that happened in the first chapter was him getting out of a coffin but the story picks up and never loses its grip. Its unique for an action series to have all the fights so one sided, but I don't think it detracts from the story because it doesn't rely so much on the fights to tell the story. (And personally I don't usually care about the battle scenes anyway.)
The art is amazing and even though its in a weird format, i think it actually helps the story telling because if you can only see one panel at a time, it shows the passage of time better.

5 years later revisit: Okay, so I dropped this series several years ago because it was getting boring and the other day I noticed I had listed it as a 10. Well this needs to be fixed. So I tried re-reading it just to make sure I could update accurately. It's worse than I remembered.

God, what happened in the past 5 years? Was it me or the series but it's really just average. Full of tired cliches, repeating elements that got old after the first time. What did I see here?

I wrote my initial review shortly after starting the series and it seemed to have a pretty solid foundation, but neither the plot nor the characters get any deeper. It seems to suffer from "the publisher won't let me cancel" syndrome or something.

If you want something similar but actually has plot and character development, I'd go read Lessa. It's long since filled the void in my heart left by this hot mess.

If you come at this manhwa for the fight's, you'll pleased, but I think the best thing about this manga is that there isn't any question of who's going to lose. Rai (the presumed "Dracula") and his servant are so much more powerful than their foes that it isn't a matter of "are they gonna win?" but rather, "I wonder what they're going to do now?" It's a story of a man/creature that knows he's the strongest, and is simply taking his time adjusting to his new surroundings. It's amusing to watch their leisurely attitudes, even in the dangerous moments. You'll be sure to check plenty of chuckles out of this one.
