Great

I really enjoyed this manga, but I can see where some people are coming from with the negatives. I watched the anime all the way through first, and then started the manga from where it started to diverge, and thus got to skip much of the slow prologue. The random jumping between characters was made a tad more bearable since episode-format lends itself better to it. Plus the action scenes were nicely animated~

Though the manga is far superior to the anime post chapter~ 34 ish. Everything just starts to tie together neatly, and little odd occurrences suddenly start to make sense. It helps that I often don't have much of an idea what's going to happen next, so I keep getting surprised.

As for the characters--I admit the personality extremes were utterly annoying at first. I caught myself wanting to strangle both Kid and Black*Star in the beginning, but they grew on me, and soon I found myself thinking--wow, they are actually kinda cool. By the time I reached the end of chapter 79 that annoyance had long since changed into adoring love. The characters DO change throughout the course of the series, but they still remain themselves and I love them for it.

Fanservice bugged me, but hey, Book of Eibon, Chapter 1. I loved it.

Rating is as it is because, no matter how much I enjoyed it, there's always room for improvement.

Boring

There's no glue holding it together. It's just a battle manga. I almost reached the end of volume 1 before just giving up out of sheer boredom, in the middle of a battle no less.

The art style kinda sucks in that it's all over the place. And I don't see where this "polish" is that others commented about.

Heck, even the ecchi portions weren't very interesting.

So for being mediocre, I gave it a mediocre rating. Enjoy.

I fell in love with this series as soon as I looked at it! The artwork looked pretty cool (It reminded me of something that came out of a Tim Burton film and the Gorillaz videos *don't ask me why lol) and the summary sounded awesome, and then I saw that there was an anime of it. So I decided to skip the manga and watch the anime first (Everyone knows that 99% of the time the anime will suck compared to the book). The anime blew me away! After I watched the anime I went to the book and I was surprised on how accurate the anime was to it (until episode 29) and of course I loved the book more then the show. The only thing that bothered me about the anime was that it didn't make as much sense as the book (Probably due to the fact that it spins off from the book after episode 29). I would recommend this book to people who like action and a great storyline ^^

Molenir hit it

What in the world is with all these 10 reviews? I don't understand how someone can say this is the perfect manga with zero room for improvement and that it can do no wrong. Seems to be a fad lately with many reviewers, even worse than before.

Anyways, as Molenir said, there isn't much to this series. I have tried following it, and tried reading it several times because people keep recommending it to me, but now I am starting to resent those friends who tell me to check it out. This series had a lot to work for, it had an interesting concept, characters that had boundless opportunities and unique qualities.. and then it shoved all that aside, picked up the latest Naruto and Bleach, and decided to copy as best they could. Completely halting any chance this series seemed to have had for a future.

u seriously have to watch the anime smilesmile
i began the manga and followed with the anime until it ended recently and now im waiting with the chappies.

The fighting scenes in both manga and anime are intense and so cool while being funny bigrazz

The thing bout the manga is the quirky art taste really shows through more than the anime and the fighting scenes become a whole different world! Its a must see.

The thing bout the anime is that its looks a lil different and i guess doesn't have the cool details as the manga but i personally think the art is really well done in the anime as well *thumbs up

haha im a shoujo girl so when i read this, it was like taking me to a whole new world!

Fun!

Okay, I had to post this after seeing the most recent negative reviews.
Firstly, personally, I'm not crazy about the art. Or the fanservice. Not that I hate it (well, okay, I've got bad blood between me and the fanservice but that's me and my feminism), but I'm not just crazy about it, y'know?
Just pointing that out to get it out of the way.
Now, onto Soul Eater- I'm not going to give some long deep review and plotline and character developement and blah blah blah because I am a blunt person and Lord know 60% of us don't give a damn.

I will only say:
The story DOES need some getting into at the start, but improves very, VERY much later on.
The characters DO change and mature (in a good way) BUT it takes time.
The comedy IS funny.
The HINTED romance is ADORABLE.
This story is NOT DEEP. It may have lines that can seem deep, or have conversations that kindasorta look like they're trying to deep BUT IT IS NOT DEEP.
HOWEVER, IT IS MOST CERTAINLY NOT SHALLOW. The characters have good relationships and problems and teamwork and all that jazz.
In short, there's the seaside and the swimming pool and that little inflatable poor excuse for a water holder in your backyard.
Think of Soul Eater as the swimming pool- it's not too deep, but not unbearably shallow but it's good enough for fun and some good moments you'll like reading.

IN SUMMARY, IT IS FUN.

BUT I WARN YOU THE START IS NOT THE BEST OF STARTS.

BUT THE LATEST CHAPTERS ARE DELISH.

THAT IS ALL.

Not sure why

Im almost not sure why i hated this manage so much. It has everything i usualy enjoy in a manga. Decient art, interesting idea, nice fight scens...but yet i still hate it so. Save for Kidd i detest every single character in this managa. Espically the cat demon whos sole purpose is to have oversized boobs. Im not one to put down fan service but it just felt waaaay to forced. Every character has way too extream of a personality...too self absorbed, too shy, too nuts, too easy going, too manwhoreish, the list goes on. There isnt a well balenced character is this manga that anyone can relate too save maybe Soul and his partner. Molenir worded it nicely, it looks nice but theres nothing under the shiney exterior. Awsome idea/art but thats it. I forced myself to read this manga because i couldnt understand why i didnt enjoy it, but it is without a doubt this is the manga i hate the most. I make the guess that the characters ruin this manga for me. If you can overlook them, or heck enjoy them, then youd probally love this manga. Personally i cant stand it and gave it up.

I have some mixed reactions about this series. On one hand, it's very stylish. Not only the artwork, but the characters and battles styles are very distinct and polished. You can tell that the author put in a lot of creativity and effort when creating them.

On the other hand, there's too much focus on the style. There's a constant addition of new characters with no development for most of them. There's almost no story background so it's difficult to understand how the characters' actions fit into the bigger picture.

Overall, it feels like the story was created to show off the stylish artwork and battles. The premise of the story seems promising, but everything is just so focused on the current event/battle that, after awhile, it feels like you're just looking at a picture book.

Great Art, Lame Story
Rating: 2.0 / 10.0

If you're looking for cool, if you're looking for art, this is a great one to read. If you're looking for a good story, a deep story, one that is well told, rather then just that just trite and shallow, then this is not the story you're looking for. Basically, it poses, it preens, it walks around like a model on a runway. But while it looks nice, just like the model, theres no real depth here. Worth looking at once at best.

Great Battles
Rating: 10.0 / 10.0

I first watched the anime first then started reading the manga.
The thing I like most about the series is the battle scenes. This manga has the coolest and most dynamic fight scenes I have ever seen. I love it.
Someone said previously that the plot develop slowly. However, the plot becomes more and more complex as it goes.
We see significant character development. Subtly, but noticeable enough.I am absolutely attached to the characters. They are not perfect. My favorite character is Maka. She's not a perfect character, but she has the most kick-ass battle style. Oh, and I also love the Docter's fighting style, too. It makes you squirm at how much they improve since the beginning of the manga. Oh wait, sorry. Did that count as a spoiler? Nah.

I also love the art. The art is nothing too complex, like CLAMP's style; the illustration is easy to the eyes and does its job well in adding the right effect. Jagged lines, smooth lines, great explosions, cool characters.

One thing that ticks me off is the scenery. It's like--in the middle of no where. It has this fairytale kind of feeling to the place, but also kind of too desolate. I don't like it that much. I supposed, this is what it makes the manga unique.

I also look forward to the next chapter.
This manga is definitely worth a try!!
