In a small town in the countryside, close to the sea, a young high-school girl lived alone with her cousin. When life seemed to her too painful and too sad, she contemplated the sky and refreshed herself by looking at the stars. But one spring night, she met a boy who sealed her destiny...

Dunno what to say yet...

I don't know what to rate this yet, as I have only read to chapter 11 right now.
But here is what I do know at the moment: (if you haven't read, may contain a little spoilers)
I have NO idea what is going on. The fact that she is suddenly so obsessed/crazy about chihiro is just...WTH? I'd understand if she was curious and stuff, but suddenly in love? o.O ? And chihiro's personality is not understandable at all. And I may still be too early to say, but I have no idea what the storyline is heading at. Nor do I understand the significance of the stars yet. And I do not know if it is the translators' fault (sorry if I offend) or Takaya really said things the way they translated it, but I just don't get some of the things that are said in the manga. Really.
But because this is a Takaya Natsuki's work, creator of Fruits Basket, I know that there is some deeper meaning in the manga, and I will keep reading to see if I can understand it better later. But at this point, I'm just clueless and somewhat bored.

This is in a sense a more grown up read in comparison to Fruits Basket, I personally found furuba quite childish at times and felt a whole heap of stuff just didn't make sense (turning into zodiac animals aside) This is a more realistic almost Hayo Miyazaki take on life, love, and growing up. Its all about troubled childhood and families in this one, even more so than in furuba, all these awkward souls brought together by our lead character makes it quite sweet and heart warming and very natural, people are drawn to others who are happy despite their own moods. So what if Shiina hides her sadness, why would she want to burden others with her problems. I don't think shes an "exact copy" of Tohru, Tohru was grieving, she had a good life but she lost it. Shiina has never lived a good life very few of the lead characters have. I really like the romance as well because its that kinda thing I'm into, all girls have randomly fallen in love with some one for no reason and I'm sure we've all been through unrequited love. The only thing I hate is the stupid love triangle its over used over done and Natsuki Takaya could have easily come up with some thing more original. Overall a more adult manga for its themes and depth that I guess some reviewers aren't quite ready for.

After how well Fruits Basket turned out to be I was looking forward to reading this series. Oh dear, such a dissappoinment it turned out to be. The story is too slow, the characters aren't as likeable or interesting, forced drama/humor the doesn't feel natural. And the heroine whatever her name is (show's how forgetful her character is) is an exact copy of Tohru from Fruits Basket.

The series isn't bad bad but it's not good either. Best to lower your expectations otherwise you'll be disappointed like I was. Now I know why this series is nowhere near as popular as Fruits Basket was.

after all those negative comments, I'm sure I'll say something positive instead.

I LOVE this story. Sure, there's similarities between this and Fruits Basket, but I have to admit, the only reason I looked for other series by the same author was so I could have the Fruits Basket flavor in another storyline, which is what I got. It may drag on, but honestly I think it's just the releases are slow. After going back and rereading the chapters, the pace isn't all that bad.
I don't get the complaint about the characters. Honestly, these are realistic people. Sure, the heroine may be over-stupid and the guy might be too much of a "prince charming", but I honestly believe in everything these characters are saying. Much of the psychological feelings they feel are things that normal people feel, and the reason these characters "don't stand out" is because the mangaka is trying to make them as realistic as possible. Some readers read manga to escape from reality, so if that's what you want, yes these characters are bland. But I read manga because I'm too lazy to read actual books(lulz), and I want something to pass time. This is a fantastic story.

read the whole thing and everything about this manga feel so forced, like some comments said, the story is very slow, characters are very dull and non really stan out, romance part is just plain horrible I mean shiina(i think this is the heroine's name) liked aoi when she only met him once, he told her he hate her and treat her like crap yet she still like him, no she I actually like him more, the characters past is so exaggerated and so forced, the whole hid one weak/ugly self behind cheerful bright smile didn't we have enough of it in furuba. I think that after furuba success, Natsuki is playing it safe

i'm on the 11th chapter being really bored and confused. i love fruits basket, but so far the manga is extremely dull. the characters aren't anything special and the storyline is bad. if it wasn't from the same author as fruits basket, i would of dropped it a long time ago.. It really isn't worth reading i think x[ but i'll continue, and comment back on the latest chapter

okay starting from ch.16 is when it gets good. For me, it's where it starts to make a whole lot more sense and interesting.

Like the title said. I do enjoy this manga very much and may as well be one of my favorites, but one can't help finding the similarities from Fruits Basket. Even one of the characters here remind me so much of another in FB.

I cried one too many times (maybe it's because i'm a sap) while reading this. Takaya-sensei seems to have a talent for tapping into deep and sometimes tragic emotions everyone can relate to. It's kind of scary if you think about..

Great manga and I would recommend it over and over again smile

It's too slow, and I REALLY don't understand how Saku falls head over heels for Chihiro after just met him once. I mean, I understand if she's curious about who Chihiro is, why did he say that he's her bf, why does he hate her, etc. But she seems so obsessed about him, WHY?? And also if I were Saku, I'd just slap Chihiro, shake his head, and make him spit it out why he hates me so much (LOL..just kidding).'s frustrating. I'm sorry but it's my opinion..(and I usually a sucker for slow drama and romance manga).

It's amazing, I think. I like the plot, the dialogues...the mimics etc etc. The only thing I have to critisize is: the heroine Sakuya is the same as Toru from Furuba, just with short black hair... That was a little disappointment but it's okay, because of that good plot. I also liked Furuba, but this one is a good work too.
