Refreshing

I miss the feeling of reading through pages without starting to criticize here and there, just reading in pure enjoyment. And Nanatsu no Taizai has done a good job to keep that enjoyment. It has perfect balance of arts and story, plus it was supported with excellence works from the group who scanlated this manga since the very beginning. I really love the drawing style. The characters reminds me of Akira Toriyama's works and the detailed background, hand drawn, reminds me of european comics' style. Just freaking love it. The story has maintain light atmosphere, but still able to draw bittersweet and sadness, like losing someone. I like how the characters aren't bratty or spend pages talking about moral when they should be fighting. It's not the greatest out there on creativity and plot buildings, however this manga has its own standing and uniqueness. I don't mind clichés if it's done well. Very refreshing read. It's kind of changed after the end of the war with holy knights. Was it because publisher's demand? Who knows. Personally, i don't like overuse revivals, like characters that were shown to be dead were alive somehow. Not just one character, but many. It's killing the story. And gauging power level with numbers, yeah it's getting too similar to dragon ball... as well as many of mmorpg based manga these days. But it's still refreshing to see a new generation of mainstream shounen manga that i can see continue running for a long time.

why discussing power level is a waste of time

This shonen is perfect. Humor, action, character, adventure.
People who are complaining about power level don’t understand that it is the least interesting thing when you want to enjoy a shounen manga. When Oda losts his way in making his manga to realistic and slow, Nakaba title brings a refreshing draft by using good old methods.

Fairy Tail like Powerups or Powerdown (is it?)

The author has no control over the powerlevels, One arc the particular characters goes all OP and in the next arc he completely forgets he even had that power and takes an ass beating, basically this process continues on and on for several arcs where characters at Random and convenience choose to remember and forget that their basically IMBA

With all said and done i must say BAN is an awesome/Epic character, i just wish he was in a better manga that's all and not in this slidefest

Awesome characters

The mangaka has figured out that people care more about what happens to characters when you take time to develop them. In no other Shounen have I seen an entire chapter where two characters just talk about how they feel about their loved ones, making their romantic relationships more developed and the friendship between each other more real.

Reading through the comments
Seems like people are complaining preemptively about the villain. They obviously aren't caught up. wink
Comparisons to Übel Blatt are unfair. For Übel Blatt (poor thing)
Comparisons to Fullmetal are suprisingly ignorant. Compare Naruto to fullmetal and you'll find that lacking as well. Be realistic.
No one forgot The protagonist had that power, but seeing the cost of it, it's pretty obvious why he hasn't used it before.
If you think the protagonist and his love interest haven't developed we obviously aren't reading the same manga. They haven't developed as much as other characters but it's still there.

I'd realistically give it 9/10 but since it's getting more hate then it deserves I'll keep it at 10/10.

Because I'm too lazy to write the same review with different wording, so I'm just gonna say yes to what @MondSemmel said.

Is it because it was a shounen? Nope. This one was pretty awesome Hagane no Renkinjutsushi.

Ohh I love this mange, it may have some boring parts but it funny with pinch of romance. It has 102 chapters so far, so I can't wait to see what's coming up. And I love the settings in which the manga takes place. The art it cool too. Although the knight's armors are kinda weird sometimes, I really recommend this manga

Yet another disappointment.

Argh.

Hardly any character undergoes any believable or interesting character development. The protagonist is a typical Chivalrous Pervert, the damsel in distress has no redeeming qualities, the villain is evil for evil's sake, and so on. None of them develop meaningfully in any sense, and when the story tries for pathos, it fails, sometimes horribly. Chapter 96 is an amazing example of this.

Oh, and the protagonist is omnipotent but inexplicably hasn't used that power for the last 40+ chapters, allowing the Evil Bad to get away with what he does. It's not even the Bleach-style why-doesn't-my-Bankai-work-yet-again - it's as if everyone including the writer forgot he had that power.

As I said, disappointing.

EDIT: And I honestly can't believe it, but chapter 106 introduces a DBZ-style Scouter: "His power level is..." Such nonsense.

But now it's just complete utter nonsensical crap.
And I was hoping the Mary Sue damsel-in-distress would change, but she didn't. She's the same.
The art's amazing, but that's it. I'm fed up. I'm outta here. c90 wasn't even readable anymore. It's ridiculous. It had so much promise, and then it went all into the plunger. e _e Haven't been this disappointed since Toriko...
So much for "the new Dragonball". Pft. :/

My favorite shounen right now. All shounen manga should learn from this one. Every character is interesting and complex and the fights make me want to see an anime version so much.

October 2014 update:
Something strange has happened to the story. Plot devices are being used that don't seem ideal and the main villain's motives are unclear at best. No idea what happened here.

I went into this wondering if this was a shounen-ized, watered-down version of Übel Blatt and I can say that is exactly what I found it to be.
This approach gives no apprehension. Development is also advancing at a faster pace, due to it being shounen. Simply put, having read Übel Blatt, which was dark and mature, reading through this easy going, blatant and ecchi take of it made me wince.
That is not to say this makes a terrible manga. It just pales greatly in comparison to Übel Blatt.

^written when it first came out. Usually ppl rant about plagiarizing and such so i found it surprising no one noticed

@Unrequited
Ot here, but you could compare this with Übel Blatt, bc the premise is the same. Your other comparisons are not. Also I guess you can't tell the difference between shounen ecchi and more mature seinen scenes.

Verdict: you can't read both, or think of both at the same time despite the duplicate synopsis.
