What gets me...

This is one of those mangas where everyone falls for the male main character when in fact there's not one thing exceptional about him at all.

What really gets me though, is oviously there is somthing going on that may noy be on the up and up and the main character doesn't seem the least bit concerned about it. I mean he doesn't have one ounce of curiousity about whats going to happen to him and thats too hard to believe. given the clues he's. Een given, i think most guys would find out more about thier fate before agreeing to this adventure but he doesnt seem to care at all. it hard to accept.

O My god this is harem, too many H scene in the comic. No Moral, the author must be nuts, or he is a coward who trying making money by some cute character in H-manga. This is soooo lame comment, if you are not adult yet don't read it, if you have a moral dilemma don't read it. About harem face it a male populations in the earth is only 1/4 populations in the world, so 3/4 is female populations. So why not have 1-4 spouse, is that not logic for you. It is a Seinen and doesnt need to place any moral lesson for the kid.

[sigh] A manga by a coward.

I really liked the first few chapters of this series, I mean REALLY liked them so I'm pretty upset that I just finished Vol. 2 and I'm dropping this series. The series is nothing like what it starts out to be, and it's one of those things where you should just read chapter 1-2 and drop it so you can preserve that memory of it. Or not read it at all.

The art: the art is beautiful, I mean, I sketch and this is just a guy who can bring you to your knees with some of these arts. The sweeping scenic views off cliff sides and especially if he chooses to draw something from beneath the water he gives it this amazingly vibrant look to it. It made me want to swim in the sea lol. To be clear, I'm a total sucker for these scenery-porn-light-plot-slice-of-life series... that is not what this is by the way.

The plot and characters: chapter one starts off real good, you have this young guy who's arriving on the island to find this place in a photo of his dead mom. No deep meaning, no dark drama, he's just wants to see this place in his life. He meets this sweet girl (really nice, a little airheaded... you know this type of character) and she takes him up to this cliff. It's a little stereotypical but it does what it does really well and it's a happy read. This goes down hill fast.

By the end of volume one alone it spirals off into this insane plot of coincidences and bullcrap. Yes, it's a harem. It COMPLETELY ABANDONS THE ORIGINAL PLOTLINE to make him the God of some local shrine and sets up these three girls to be his servants, so yes, it's a harem. If you're not writing for the small group who has a thing for harems (like the first few chapters will draw in people who don't) it's a hard thing to do, because, you know, you have to actually write a plot and have girls who are girls and not... props. This is the worst kind of harem, it treats girls like crap, no one female in this story has any backbone or wants to do anything besides *Sigh* please their man and cook. Has the mangaka ever met a real girl? NO ONE TALKS LIKE THIS.

The harem goes nowhere and you are set up for 8 volumes of dumb middle-school esque sex jokes and gosh the tough life of a guy surrounded by these airheads who will he choose someone shoot me now... I'm sorry, why does everything just fall into this guy's lap? People fall in love with him for no reason, his dad pays for everything and he doesn't work, does anyone else hate this dumb stuck-up guy who think he knows everything?

So why couldn't the author just write something fun and original, 'cause chapter one shows he knows how. OK, maybe not original but nice and not stab-your-eyes-out annoying. Is he just insecure? That he writes this crap, where it's like a retread of a retread of a retread of a plot. And these beautiful places with such boring people. Everyone on this island seems to just be rich, they all have nice houses, and creative architecture, and fantastic wildlife and clear blue skies and beautiful beaches and they're playing out this shitty second rate harem plot? What wasted artistic talent!

about the eroge similarities....

well having played a few eroge in my time and allthough its not exactly same scenario ( but quite close in a way ) ever heard of "Come see me tonight 2" ? (if not read this link http://www.animetric.com/Review/Bishoujo-Game-Reviews/Come-See-Me-Tonight-2.ht ml?counter=1) It's an eroge that puts u in the shoes of a shinto priest to be inheritor of a shrine and responsible to choose between 4 mikos ( shrine maidens) the one that will preside on next festival as main dancer but also as primary miko ofthe shrine that will marry to you. I could say that well it has a lot of similarities but there they just end and well unlike the eroge i mentioned this manga has a lot more character development plus the customs and the way the islanders respond as a closed society plus the comic at times relief of the curious teacher that in a way studies them customs like a national geographic photographer in a national african park do add a lot more to the basic scenario. That and the amazing art specialy when sceneries wide views are shown or underwater scenes add for me to the respect i have for that artist.Allthough of course it doesnt surpass in plot Ai yori Aoshi that i still consider one of the most romantic manga i ever read that include a touch of slice of life - the others i d' mention are Yume de Aetara, Nana for its realism, Nana to Kaoru for managing be so romantic even though it explores also the kinky perversions that are also a facet of the sexual aspect of love life of a pair, still i give it an 8 for the effort of fleshing out the emotional turmoil of the characters as well the fact that while the guy is extremely lucky being in such a position (as is the guy in the eroge) he doesn's act like a jerk and he takes into account the feelings of the 3 girls (kinda like Kaoru in Ai yori Aoshi, a good guy overall).

This manga isn't bad. I love the development of the characters and the story, itself, but...

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I can't seem to take this series seriously anymore. Everyone has ridiculously round and cute faces, but at the same time, they're having sex, and... I can't help but find it strange.

after reading the whole manga , i just hope that the protagonist will have a good ending and the girls either . The story is going to the direction which a man must choose one of the three girls who love and have affection toward him but if he choose one, sadly the other two will have broken heart. I just hope that this manga have a good end just like on Honeymoon salad manga that i read.

Love to hate

Here i read person after person putting hate on the main character and the others which is why i felt forced to post.

I love this story for the fact that the guy is not a wimp nor an imbecile nor the typical shounen retard, this makes it one of the extremely few male leads i can sympathize with and root for and not wishing death and destruction upon. I see him as an clear slate so that you can project yourself into his shoes. In my mind I,ve named him Lucky F**ker

The girls are all developed, a hell of a lot more than you get in any other harem, some more than others. Karin is the only believable one though. To me its only her or the first girl he met that are the true competitors and by right Karin should be the one to seduce and win him. For Shizuku to get him would just be wrong, as if a first meeting would mean more than an extended period of time growing to know a person. Too bad i dont find tomboys endearing.

Oh and the art is truly exceptional and makes up for the story being so awfully slow paced.

I kinda hate the whole harem thing which I try to avoid nowadays, but put it aside and you have a great manga with, and i mean it, AMAZING art. Not fot the characters, who are plain, but the sceneries... The only manga I read where I actually stopped in front of a picture for a whole 10 minutes. The main guy does get everything a little easily, but it didn't really bother me. I only hope that it won't have a coward harem ending, and I root for karin who is way better than the others ( but i fear Shizuku will win, being the first girl he meets and everything)

I won't say "read it !" but if you have a little time to spare just give it a try, you might like it.

Ok read

I didn't dislike it, at least not up to the first dozens of chapters that I've read thus far. The story was ok, but like many have pointed out there is not much that's new. I think the story is lacking some kind of unique twists and the main guy just gets everything too easily. This might be why I stopped reading this further. =(

On the other hand, if this is the first of the genre you've come across, then by all means go for it - although really, among the bagillions of similarly-themed mangas out there, I'm sure there's something out there that you'll find better.

A typical one...

Let's start with the easy ones first:

Artwork:It's been 9 years since Ai yori Aoshi began, and comparing it with Umi no Misaki i can't find much of a difference on this one.Same faces, same expressions etc.Well most artists stick to their own unique personal style.
Back in 1998 i wouldn't complain, but a harem manga in this time and age could have better drawn faces. The backround scenery is amazingly nice though and very picturesque.I think the artist knows how to draw pretty damn well, but for a reason i cannot comprehend why he/she chooses that style on the characters faces.Maybe it's easier to alter their expressions between funny and serious i suppose. You will get used to them easily though.

Story:It started dynamically but quickly betrayed my expectations as it turned into a typical harem manga where nothing happens until chapter 80 which is currently the last chapter i happened to read.It kinda reminds me of Pastel, not as a story, but it has the same flow.Meaning that in both series you read the story without expecting sth, just so as to pass your time.Ai yori Aoshi surpasses this by far.It had a good plot which alternated between drama and comedy and soothed my mind when i wanted sth easy to read. This one, looks more of a bad imitation of it's successful predecessor in my opinion.

Characters:The usual. Each girl has a different personality so as to have difficulty who to choose, exactly as a dating sim.Two are tsundere of a different kind though and as time passes they become completely dere, other is a tomboy and not to forget mentioning the loli teacher.

Only, for a quick read and if you haven't sth better.I would recommend Ai Yori Aoshi before reading this one.Maybe you will have a different viewpoint and like it more.
