This Manga started out 2002!

Art? Not a huge fan of how Kyoko was designed, but Ren is definitely hot. The author loves details and really cares about this story. I like the story and the characters are all very realistic. The text you gotta read is very long most of the times and it can get confusing since updates are very rare, in the past the chapters were also way longer than they are now. This also had a potential to be an ongoing Anime such as Naruto and Fairy Tail considering how it is still holding on. What is kind of problematic is how slow the pacing altogether is. In the Manga barely a year passes wheras in real life it passed a decade. Even tho romance is the main focus, the main couple only started to confess their feelings for each other... this year :X it is really challenging our patience. I hope the author finds a way to make the progress a bit faster and make longer chapters like she did in the past. It is hard to stay up to date with a manga that is not updating regularly or at least posting long enough chapters to make the wait worth it.

I recommend this manga for anyone who has a good stamina tho, there are some juicy scenes between the main couple so it is not like the romance is completely neglected. It is just very slow.

This is a good series but it's like reading a really long movie. The artist really cares about the story and I respect that. It's in it's own little world and that's okay. I fee like I've seen so much , I hope it finishes soon.

How this is series getting above 9 avg is mind-boggling. I guess the answer lies in having an established fanbase and selling your product to a demographic that is gonna buy it no matter what. It is really easy to milk the cash cow under such conditions.
The series your typical romcom, very similar to kdrama series. It had some very funny moments mostly due to FMC personality, but that's it it is dragging. Is not the first or last that does this example Hajime no Ippo is going on for decades and uses the same formula. If it sells why bother ending it although there is no progression.
The artwork is very basic. It feels like there is no backround artist. What the artist does is use just a plain backround when the area changes and then have white backround with faces covering the whole panel. Talk about having it easy.

My last post for Skip Beat was from back in 2014.... Unbelievable!

What a classic. This series is the DEFINITION of a slowwww burn. No "falling in love overnight" to be found here. The art might not be the best nowadays, but this manga honestly helped me grow up. I didn't have the best childhood/teenage years, but Skip Beat! helped me mature as a human being despite my isolation from a warm family/group of friends. Kyoko is such a tough woman, and it comforted me to see her journey. I remember pondering various themes in the manga long after I read the chapter, just to imagine what I might have done, and how I could improve myself like she always is striving to.

There was a theme of how she empathized with personalities different from hers once she pretended to actually be them. This helped me outgrow my shy self and become a social butterfly in college. Fake it 'til you make it, so they say. It's crazy to think that so many people, myself included, have their lives molded by a monthly comic strip. Such a warm sense of nostalgia... I'm going to tear up ha ha.

Back in 2002 .. when i was 15 ... i came across this manga after falling across it during anime searches. I read it, enjoyed it and it got me sucked in.

Patiently i wait for an update and before i know it, 2020, i'm 32 and have spent over half my life reading this manga!

Update have gone monthly from fortnightly and weekly before that but yet i still have to keep going. 282 chapters in and the story is only JUST beginning. Lets see now where the relationship goes.

Next update, 2022 .. titled "the kiss" ... most likely as it seems to take years for any progress to happen!

Skip Beat is a really good manga. It touches on some really dark stuff, doesn't rush the plot, and also has a good sense of humor. The problem is that if you find out that you like it, be prepared to wait for it. I remember seeing this when it was first releasing chapters back in '06, and I decided to wait. Then about 8 years ago a friend of mine convinced me to start reading it, and I didn't check to see whether or not it was done. That was my mistake, because that was 100 chapters ago, and only about 4 months long in the manga time-line, which included several time skips. I've heard rumors of it coming to a close soon, but I expect that in maybe another 15 years at this pace...
The story spends a lot of time focusing on the personal growth of each of the characters. Which is one of the reasons it takes so long, but at the same time makes it so good. The characters have their fair shares of ups and downs and they have their own issues and we get to slowly see them resolving them and working through them.

I liked Kyoko's whole revenge thing, and her growth in her acting abilities. What I don't like is Tsuruga Ren...seriously, i find the guy pretty creepy. Shou is pretty annoying too, but i know he's supposed to be like that, and then miraculously change as he realizes he's in love with her or something (read: i haven't read further than 50~ish chapters, so idek...)
MC needs some freaking logical thinking though, girl is so dense it's CRAZY! The whole love part of this manga isn't needed imo, could've managed with just the acting bits 🙂

I can't believe I still read this manga. I also can't believe how long it has been! For a shoujo to be this long and still be interesting has me baffled to say the least. Usually the 2nd arc of a shoujo dwindles into trash and I become bored out of my mind.

Some arcs I really enjoy, and have reread them over and over. While others I will never reread, but I am enjoying the journey, and believe it or not, I am glad it has lasted so long. Some of my favorite moments happen late into the manga. While I do hope this manga will end before I die, I also hope that when it finally does end, all the loose ends are properly tied or laid down neatly.
