I got the first volume of this series as a Christmas present ( oh side note: dont give ppl books unless u know that they really wanted that book bc I got 6 different series n I hate all of them..), and as I mention ina really long side note, I hate it. The main character.... I CAN'T stand her.. she is so man crazy!!! I read the pre-quel in the magazine and I freaking love it (I read the prequel 3 times!) So I tried to reread this again.. this time I got up to 1.5 volume before I gave up.. so if u hate useless, man crazy girl, then dont read it. I like the rest of the characters though (esp. The main boy.. oh myyy xD)

The characters were likable. They were well-drawn and developed along the way. The art, though not great, is still fine, too. But what really hit it for me was the plot. It is amazing. There wasn't a point where I got bored. It's refreshing since it's not your ordinary type of shoujo. The ending's very well done too. There were no loose ends and it was satisfying.

I just finished reading this and it is absolutely fantastic. You wouldn't regret reading this.

This is my second time reading through this manga series, and it used to be my favorite one. But after rereading it, I've changed my opinion. I really liked Usagi at first, both before and after my reread- I thought her antics were cute (although her laziness did annoy me a bit) and didn't mind too much of the friendly teasing with Goemon... but then it got too much. Usa just uses the people around her... She basically just plays Goemon and gives him hope, then takes it away, and makes Hanzo jealous and whatever. Then she doesn't tell useful information when she needs to. She's cruel and just a bother to everyone. Plus, she cries all the time and has this passive-aggressive attitude- one moment she's cuddling Goemon and then the next hitting him for yelling at Hanzo. Please.
Also, it's pretty unrealistic how much everyone around her loves her. I think her and Hanzo make a cute couple, but I really do doubt "the most handsome man in Iga" would go with a girl whose frequently mistaken as a boy and acts like a child.
It also gets pretty overly dramatic towards the end. I can appreciate the story being similar to the history that it's based on and that it's not happy-doody throughout the entire series, but everyone just seriously drops all their grudges and listens to Usa ALL THE TIME-- in the power of love or whatever.
Also, Usa always has to be saved. Always. There are so many near-death moments but then just someone conveniently comes in to save them.
I've also read the entire series but, really... I can't take it anymore. I used to love it but now I see how annoying Usagi truly is. I love Mamezo and Uribou and the puppy though, as well as Goemon and Ranmaru (speaking of Ranmaru, did he really fall in love with her after meeting her once?), and I thought Hanzo was pretty cool too. Just... Usa can be really annoying and was made more "special" than she was, and I kinda hated Yuri too.

These are really just the main, gnawing flaws though... there are more flaws, but there are also more strengths too. I still really love the dynamic between Usa and Hanzo, and that it isn't as typical as other Shoujo romances. It has some really good times that had me crying and really connecting with Usa. I also appreciated Usa's knowledge in medicine. Just wish there was slightly more depth and realism to the story.

To be honest, I really hate the main female lead's character in the beginning of the chapters. I was going to drop this series then but I continued (reluctantly) anyway. I'm glad I read it till the end though.

It gets pretty interesting half way through (I can't remember which volume it started cause I read it long ago). One of my fav shoujo back then. I wouldn't have thought it will turn out they way it did, but I'm glad. smile I love the characters growth. I didn't even like the main male lead at first, but he turns out pretty okay I guess. In fact, I think they make a pretty good couple. I love them both.

So I guess you have to tolerate it a bit before finally getting to the good parts. I fell in love with the characters and stories at the end. smile There are a lot of drama though, which pains me a bit. I can't handle sad stories. Haha

I'm happy that I finally read the prequel to this(never knew there was one) so now things make a bit more sense. Although I put this series on hold because I CAN'T STAND how boy crazy the main girl is, she's so superficial in my eyes. Other than that, the art is beautiful, and I shall try and finish it.

I love this series. I wish there are more manga like this. Although i am biased since im a fan o the mangaka. But even if im not, i still would love this. I love hanzou! I love the historical plot, even if im not japanese! You would still find it interesting. And i love how the male lead fell inlove with usagi. I also love Usagi's little side kick. He's just so cute. Mannn i love this manga. I wish i havent read it and just starting to read it so i could enjoy it again. Definitely one of my faves. I usually forgot the proagonists' names after finish reading it but in this manga, i still remember their names.

People are being so harsh about the heroine! She isn't that bad at all! I actually love how she isn't the yamato nadeshiko-type. She isn't cute at all either lol, and that's one thing that usually annoys me about manga females sometimes--that they're supposed to be tear-inducingly "kawaii."
The fact that she is the most useless ninja ever is really endearing to me, and I think that the humor and the seriousness of the story line are really well balanced so far.

I just started reading Tsuki no Shippo today and was shocked to realize that I'm already nearing the end of volume 3 bc I was so wrapped up in it. Soooo still reading it (after all there are 15 volumes--yikes!) so I'll make sure to update my review as I go along smile

*Update (vol.6 chap.36) : I really do not like the way that Hanzou keeps saying "lose weight to be my bride." Buddy, eff you!! Rant complete.

I don't know why everyone is saying that this manga is bad and all, but I find it okay! But of course, I never really liked how Usagi act. In the beginning, I actually enjoyed seeing how she acts, especially the part where Mamezou was bullied and how she protected him and yelled at Suzune, it was very nice! But when it comes to Goemon when he was hurting, she kept on telling Hanzo about "Goemon this, Goemon that" IT'S SO FRIGGIN IRRITATING!!!!!!

I bet I would even act like Hanzo if someone I like does that to me. And after that, during the climax of the story, I feel like slapping her when she says that she wanna marry Yukimaru, JUST because she reminisces of how Yukimaru has been so nice to her and all, and she decided to yell it out loud. What a fool. So foolish and acts as she likes. I thought she has grown into a strong character after that war. Ugh. The storyline is good, don't get me wrong. I just dislike how Usagi acts like sometimes. She's strong sometimes, but then she'll fall back to being a stupid girl as well.

Mind you, I gave it a 9.5 because of the BISHIES!!!! Oh gawd. Hanzo is such a friggin' hottie. Oh right, and before you read this, make sure you read the prequel to get to know the characters like Sara and blonde hair Hanzo. But the Hanzo from this main story and the Hanzo from the prequel seems like a complete different character. I mean, how come the Hanzo in this manga acts like as if he's a very decent guy but in the prequel, he acts like as if he's the carefree type, I mean, how come he can accept the marriage of him and Sara so quickly without seeing her when in this manga, he rejects the marriage proposal with Usagi so quickly. I find this very weird. It's like a change of character between the Hanzo in this manga and in the prequel one. Whatever. As long as the ending in this story is good.

As with most shoujo leads the char is pretty annoying, but thats not my main problem with this story. it was great when it was just a simple romantic comedy with ninjas, but then the author wanted to make everything effing dramatic. DRAMADRAMADRAMADRAMA and not one bit of it was any good. To top it off the author seems to have no commitment to the crappy drama, and lets everything just go off to unrealistic good outcomes. people with 3 year vendettas, and grief over their suicided wife just up and forget their problems cuz she said so. All of the forced grief and sadness is almost totally ignored. overall from the middle up until the final 2 chapters this story is a flat out train wreck that deserves nothing short of being burned. Fortunately the final time skip was rather entertaining/romantic(great to see the little kids outcome, as well as the happy creepy glare family... those little girls haunt me...), and the beginning half was funny/sweet so it saved itself. Overall i would suggest just skimming through the last half.
