As I read it, I was thinking: Shame they didn't have Mohammed as an absent 3rd roommate.
This does provide an ousider's view of society without being too serious. Maybe it will encourage readers to find out more to learn where the characters deviate from history.

I adore Arakawa Under the Bridge, so I keep trying to read this and I can never get in to it. It is mildly amusing at times, but the fact that the two are supposed to be Buddha and Jesus is mostly happenstance and has little influence on what they do or the jokes which are told. There is a gold mine of jokes waiting for be made there and it just seems like a missed opportunity.
SO Out there...

If you're expecting Saint Young Men to portray either Jesus or Buddha accurately, then you're in for a disappointment. It's much less religion-heavy than it sounds. But this also means you should give it a chance even if you're not Christian or Buddhist.

if you want to use jesus and buddha...it comes with...some responsibillities
this is not jesus and buddha
this have nothing to do with religion
it is about 2 nerds living their weird life filled with wants and needs in tokyo and they just happen to have magical abbilities they dont use very often
if jesus and buddha had these sort of tendencies they would not have been remembered today
it is funny
but it tries and obviously to some degree win easy points with using jesus and buddhas name
i would have liked it better if the MCs would have been named
joe and bob

While I knew this was a comedy, I was hoping for it to have something of a philosophical outlook, but it's really just a gag series. I suppose I shouldn't hold that agains it, but it feels like a missed chance.
A little more annoying is that Jesus is mostly an outlet for "a Westerner in Japan" jokes. The author doesn't seem to know anything about him other than some of the miracle stories. How can you tell good jokes about something you know next to nothing about?
