As expected from Mizushiro Setona, this manga is another one of the her great works. She is skilled in story telling; the readers can empathise with the two protagonists and experience the emotions that they went through. This is definitely a good read for anyone who can tolerate a subpar art standard.

This classic manga has been in my favourite list ever despite the seemingly-bad art. I was in awe to discover that this manga was of the same author with The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese series which I was very fond of. Dont be let down just by the art because it was so great a manga that it moved your heart and even shed your tears. The love-making scenes were also very .. yummy, haha, considering this was drawn in the 90ies.

I have only one comment though. This is not a tragedy. And it is clearly said in the few last pages of the manga, see it for yourself. This is, for me, a happy ending.

If you come across this manga, pick it up and read it. Don't pass it. It's worth the read!! The reviews already posted here cover everything. I agree with most of them and I think they would be a good guide to the manga.
It's funny how sometimes it is so easy to look past the art and still enjoy the manga. This is one of those cases. The characters and story are so gripping that you don't concentrate on the art. I am not saying the art is that bad, I don't think it is. I find it unique/different. But i didn't focus on it. I was more interested in the progression of the story to notice the gaps in the art.
The story feels like it is capturing a real time period in shanghai's gang history and these two characters seem very real. Their history and the events that happen to the main characters also are very plausible. I don't like reading tragedies but If i imagine a happy ending I don't think it would befit this story, so the author did justice to the manga by keeping it strong and in its element. I applaud the mangaka for creating a powerful manga, with a consistently strong and gripping plot, right till the end.

I'm so sad after reading this. But it was good.

The art is rather the nineties-ish (which is no surprise since it was made in 1996, haha), but you get used to it after a while. One thing though, sometimes it's hard to distinguish one character from another, because their haircuts are the only thing different about them (and some have the same haircuts, agh!).

The plot is like a modern Romeo and Juliette.

This is truly a must read! The art work is not really good in my opinion but the story is fantastic! If you was to escape from all the yaoi mangas just based on sex this will be for you! By the time i got to the end of Chp. 2 i was captivated by it! So beautiful and just wonderful! I over looked this manga more than once but once i read it i couldn't get enough. It will definitely not disappoint!

I can not believe how much I cried at the end of this manga. It's just so sad....and really pretty at the same time.

I read this manga once or twice a year, because it just really is an awesome story, which will leave you feeling like total sh*t afterwards. xD

But it's totally worth it! Read this yaoi classic! <3

Anyway MIZUSHIRO Setona is one of my fav author and she never disappoint.

Aaah I loved this. Their hidden relationship was so heartwrenching and gosh I loved every page of the manga. It was so fun and exciting to read~~ I just love this angsty story!

I rarely give good critique and i can say that this is worth it!!!!!
If I have to say, no words can express how beautifully crafted this piece of work of art is.
It made me fall in love, happy, lonely, sad, angry just you name it..
It delivers all the emotions in me...
The bad art and cover of the manga didn't affect me at all because i felt the feelings the manga wants to convey.
The ending is not tragic at all and it gives you a hint of hope that things that may not be what you expect it to be..

I really truly love this manga and I will never forget this as long as i live!!!!

Beautiful written story about a tragic love, but ain't those not the best ones? (^~^)

I was not expecting this manga to be this good. Normally I am hooked from the very beginning, but with this I hadn't realized I was hooked until half way through. It's got great pace; even though it is slow, it gradually builds up and always makes the reader anticipating what is happening next. It's not one of those manga with dramatic moments, but has good flow between lows and highs.

Highly recommended. Great art as well - albeit a bit confusing, but as long as you take time to actually look at the characters, it shouldn't be so hard.
