Well.. i never really planned on reading this manga because i'm really picky when it comes to art but the art for this manga wasn't that old and improved quite a bit in the later volumes. First of all, the story was AMAZING as in one of the best i've read! I mean, it's pretty obvious how good this manga is just by the ratings but wow.. I'm so glad i decided to read it! The characters in this manga are absolutely captivating and strong. You can really see the character development throughout each volume as every character becomes stronger not only physically but also emotionally as well as spiritually. YES there is romance and YES a lot of it (most adventure/action manga's don't have enough right). Although sometimes it would be a bit cliche in my perspective but nevertheless, all 14 volumes were filled with so much adventure, emotions, actions and well.. you'll never get bored and it leaves you wanting more. The ending was very well done also but i won't comment too much on that since i wouldn't wanna spoil it bigrazz.
I'm kinda sad it's over but this is definitely an unforgettable manga.
10/10!

I highly suggest this manga! Very good plot and character development, it never gets old! It's not the average shoujo that seems to be piling on manga lists, but a true classic (like Immortal Rain and Red River). This type of manga is not easily found and it's old enough to be considered a relic, but this is the type that I absolutely adore! The art is an older style, but that's part of why it's so good.
Read this manga!
PS: If you love over protective male leads that are dominant but not creepy, this is your manga!

This is the most amazing and enjoyable manga I have ever read. It has a perfect blend of action, romance, and a dynamic plot, that really sucked me in. It is unique, and once I started reading it, I could not put it down. I read the whole thing in two sittings, and I am so glad to have picked it up. This is a must-read for anyone who can appreciate a good manga!

The shoujo series that i love the most. Full of feelings and cuteness, but not cheesy or weak. Even i like the heroine. She is not cool, too intelligent but she is a real girl, adorable, having a big heart and gentle. She is not annoying, always making a big fuss or attracting attention. Instead, she tries not to be a burden, tries to be useful and protect others. We just can't blame her that she is scared of monster or doesn't have the ability to fight. I like it better that she is a ordinary girl. The scene i like best about her is when Izark left her in grandma's house and she thought "I must smile and say goodbye to him". She is indeed strong than other heroine that i've ever read. The plot is attractive too, i can't stop in the middle of reading. And the endings, i love it. I would totally hate it if he came to her world or they parted. This ending makes the series more real and somehow mature.

I'm reading Kanata Kara for the second time around and still like it very much. How strange, I usually dislike the weak woman - strong man setting but in this manga it doesn't bother me one teensy bit. Rather, it feels natural somehow. And the female protagonist isn't actually that weak, not mentally anyway. nor is she a crybaby. So, yeah, likeable characters, likeable setting, interesting plot, doesn't make me want to grind my teeth together and slap some sense into the girl... in other words, ten out of ten ^^.

I also like Hikawa Kyoko's art very much. It's a bit old fashioned, hasn't changed much in the basic level throughout the years, but I like it. Her characters mirror feelings easily without being melodramatic, and their movement is natural and easy. Lovely.

The beggining was OK, but later on it gets quite boring quickly. The characters are too flat, story too predictable and it has nothing to balance out those shortcomings. It simply doesn't expand on its good points...

There were some aspects of this manga that I really really loved--such as the idea that the girl actually has to learn the language when she gets sent to another world. (this small but important aspect is often ignored in other manga of the same genre&setting)

However, the story felt a bit too cheesy and cliche for me, especially when it came to the villains... The girl, while it is totally understandable that she would be lost and lonely, and would thus need a friend/companion... I just couldn't take her journey with the dude as seriously because I've seen the same thing happen so many other times.

Overall, though, this manga is nice and comes to a definite conclusion--thank god. I can see a happy ending for the both of them, and I truly appreciate that! (who doesn't love a happy ending?!) This manga is not among the top of my list, but I'm still glad to have read it.

... just how amazing this manga is. I nearly cried when it ended because I loved it so much.

Art:
Old fashioned, but soooooo impressive and awesome. It added to the rustic, intense feeling of the manga. There were a few pages where it was a little iffy as to what the mangaka was trying to draw
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
like in one of the last scenes, when Izark was fighting Keimos and you couldn't tell which guy was Keimos and which was Izark because in one panel it showed Izark cutting a hole in Keimos's barrier and jumping through, but in the next it had the hole by Keimos and Izark far from it
but it was pretty even and clean throughout. She was really consistent but added changes to the characters as the story progressed. From the beginning to the end, I estimate that Noriko was in their world for about two to three years, and it showed in her hair length and the way she carried herself, and in the faces and statures of those around her. All the fight scenes were well done and intense. 10/10

Characters:
Gah, where do I begin? All of the characters were great, including the bad guys. I loved how
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
at the end, when you think Rachef is going to kill Noriko, he instead says that he just wants to be loved, though he does it a little more violently and round-about than that.
All the characters were well-developed by the end, especially Noriko and Izark. Normally you don't see many changes in the main characters in mangas like this, but Noriko and Izark underwent many trials and grew from them instead of acting like they never happened. All the side characters existed for a purpose and had their own stories, but it never got confusing for me. 10/10 for everyone, including the bad guys and the nameless characters.

Story:
This manga left a very deep impression on me. For example, the whole bit about
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
choosing between light and dark and having no set destiny.
This entire story was deep and meaningful, but still very intriguing and worth the length. I've seen some people complaining about how long it is, which is understandable, but every single one of the 14 volumes was worth reading and rarely was any of it boring. I don't feel that this is a waste of time in the least, long or no. I love love LOVE "From Far Away." <3 At the end, everything was resolved, in this world and in theirs
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
but I can't help but wish that it had shown Noriko pregnant in one of the last panels. I thought it would have because for quite a while it didn't show from her chest down, but no, she wasn't preggers. Also, you just know that Noriko and Izark will stay together forever, it just could have had a teensy bit of closure. The rest of the plot was well finished, though, and the implication that they get married in the Noriko's Diary thing at the very end was all the confirmation I needed.
Oh, and it was great how Noriko had to LEARN their language instead of just knowing it upon entering their world. You don't see that often, and it just made the story perfect and maybe a tad realistic, like how Noriko grew stronger after the first few volumes both physically and emotionally. You don't see her crying much unless something happens to Izark, which was awesome. (IZARK AND NORIKO'S LOVE STORY IS SO CUTE, but I liked how it wasn't the entire focus of the plot. There were also politics, war, and the whole Awakening/Sky Demon thing to round out the story.) I also love how the story makes a complete circle in all their travels and you meet characters in the epilogue that you met in the very first volume. It was really great. 10/10, absolutely. This is one of the of the best resolved and written mangas I've ever read, and I've read A LOT of manga.

All in all, this manga is a must-read. I loved it so much that I literally hugged my computer after finishing it just so I could express that emotion. You will not regret reading this manga, I promise you. I don't, and I never will. I have a feeling that I will be rereading this manga many times in my life, that's how much I adored it. Please, give it a chance. The first volume is a little meh, but after Noriko learns their language and some villains start getting introduced, it gets much better. I love this manga, and you most likely will, too. smile

I've reread this about 5 times already and I will probably reread it again when I find I have nothing else to read! I love this manga and it never gets old. Sure it's super cliche but it's done in such a cute and awesome way. Wish the mangaka would do a sequel of this like she did some of her other works! >_<

Let me start off by saying that the first work of this mangaka that I read was Miriam. So as far as heroines go, I wasn't expecting anything better than Miriam.
Besides that, I wasn't disappointed. Yes, it was ridiculously cheesy and was chock-full of the supernatural cliches, but it was a shoujo cliche done right. The "realistic" aspect of her actually having to learn the language was just amazing, and the way the author had her assimilate to the culture was natural, as if the readers became her and were undergoing the assimilation process as well.
Because it follows the guidelines of the shoujo supernatural, you automatically have the good versus evil. Not particularly surprising. But how the mangaka executes this is clean, not overly crowded with characters, and a intriguing-enough plot.
As for the ending, I thought it was exactly what I would expect from a cliche supernatural story. I wasn't quite expecting anything more than that.

By the way, one of the most annoying things about this manga is that it's incredibly difficult to start in the middle. Because there aren't really any fillers and there are new characters that help propel the plot forward every arc, you will end up very, very confused if you do. So if you have say, 5 hours to spare on a day, take that time and read this through from the beginning to the end. The sappiness will make you laugh as much as I did, or at least make you smile.
