It's really a matter of taste

Hahaha Aoi-Tenshi's comment was so funny XD I agree completely. Stuff like this is pretty much why I stopped reading shoujo. Comedy can do a lot for a series but it's really difficult for me to read when it's the only redeeming point to something that's supposed to be more of a romance--if you can really call it that (I don't get how a boyfriend treating his girlfriend poorly is called love, regardless of whether or not he's a tsundere). Still, I get why some people love this series.

This is your typical shoujo manga. The female lead has nothing to offer (personality-wise) and is boring overall. She falls in love with a douche and makes it her lifelong goal to capture his heart like a goddamned retard. And like almost every Shoujo-School Life-Romance Manga out there she makes you want to change your gender because everything is just that pointless and absurd. Anyway the only thing that kept me reading was the main guy, who could be gintokis long lost brother, and of course the art. People who have a weakness for really good art should give this a try, But you shouldnt expect much story wise because the male protagonist is the only one who gets to develope his personality (and that one 2ndary male character -.-)

Hot Gimmick-y

For people who liked Hot Gimmick, this is a less plot-oriented version of it. It's a guilty pleasure manga that's oriented towards a certain kink.

It satisfies that masochist inside, I guess, with a bit of "oh-I've-managed-to-change-him" satisfaction.

It is not bad and is less cliche then the premise holds, as in cold attractive guy x simpleton average girl (though the premise alone is still horribly cliche). Why? Because it's comically centered - there is hardly any real drama. All conflict is eventually resolved rather peacefully instead of dragging on (which is good). This cliche'd premise actually works, but still can't go above and beyond that.

Liked: The characters stay true to who they are. Kyouya is cold but can also be reasonably considerate. It's the same with Erika. She's sort of too eager/ditzy (like a dog) but can also be reasonable by compromising. It's these good and bad things about both of them that make them balanced (somewhat normal) people (as well as making their relationship work).

Disliked: Scattered plot-line = boring. Unfortunately this is what makes it a so-so series. So far the whole of the plot is just using side character mini-arcs as temporary conflict sources and jumping around from random situation to situation. It's sort of episodic and wishy-washy. Since the story lacks dramatic tension (to utilize humor), there's really not much more to go off of. I'm also saddened to see the side characters left in the shadows after each arc... they might as well be main characters! :<

But the story IS solely about Erika and Kyouya - aka "Wolf Girl and Black Prince". So if you like them and them solely, this will do. To me, it's a nice story pass to time with~

This manga is the kind that you either end up liking or not. I ended up not exactly hating it but not liking it either.

I jumped onto reading this because the art looked nice and the premise(though it's been done before) might turn out interesting with the mangaka's creativity. It's pretty average, I guess.

Our female lead, wanting to belong among her peers who've all had boy-experience, lies up an imaginary boyfriend(with the aid of her bestfriend) to impress the 'it' girls (who, amusingly, the hero comments to himself as the 'bitch duo').

Pressured into showing evidence of her boyfriend, she takes a picture of a hot guy she happens to pass by. Things happen, he blackmails her into being his dog, yadda yadda, he helps her pull off the fake relationship. So far, the story goes like that.

There's bullying of the heroine, an a**hole of a hero, a he's-so-mean-but-oh-noes-I-love-him heroine, and so on...the usual shoujo stuff.

I could have looked past it all if only it was written better. I really liked the art and really tried liking the characters (which I did around the beginning) but this just turns out pretty 'meh' for me. I'll come back if the plot gets interesting, like, Oh I dunno, some hero groveling maybe?

I'm a huge fan of hero groveling (because he's freaking lucky to have some girl, albeit a pretty wimpy girl, put up with his shit) and I love seeing it in stories where there's such a huge imbalance in the dynamics of the relationship. I hope it happens here and soon because I'm on the edge of dropping this.

As the reviewer below me said, I too would like to see some backbone from the heroine. This story can still be saved and maybe the comments in the future can read "oh, it was bad in the start but turns around around chapter *bleep*". Hopefully.

Contrary to what the masses of people are trying to convince you to believe, this manga is not "amazing." It has a reeeeaaaaaallllllllllllyyy hot male lead, so I can understand how so many girls can just look at him and go "THIS MANGA ROCKS." But that is only the physical aspect of the lead, I don't think his personality is appealing. He has no charm point that I can discern. I have no problem at all with the way he treats the female lead "cruelly" as one of the previous reviewers described it. I don't think he's cruel at all. He just stinks as a character, that's all.

On top of that, I just cannot sympathize with the female lead and the "predicament" that she's only in because she chose and continues to choose to have "friends" like that. She created her own problem and could end it at any point. In other words, as so many people are fond of using this terminology, she is a "weak" female lead. (Though I really detest the words "strong" and "weak" as they are used because being strong or weak is no reason to for you to believe a female lead is good or bad. Your assessment of her as a person should be the deciding factor.)

All 7 points of the points I've given this are for the male lead's looks (Yes, his name and the female lead's name are not worth remembering.)

im giving it a rating of 5 only because of the art. Sata-kun is really well drawn bishi but gawd, the heroine annoys the *bleep* out of me. I read alot of shoujo mangas, being able to read korean, chinese and japanese means i can read a lot more titles compared to just limited to the english translated ones (so yeah, trying to boost my cred here haha)

tl;dr, art is good, but the heroine is so $^&$%*%^#$%## it was a huge struggle for me to read this past the first few chapters. she was so annoying to the point that i made an account here just to comment on this manga...

this is your typical shoujo manga, as in [stupid] normal/avarage girl who fell in love with the prince of the school. plus you add the unrequited love that turns requited. bull's eye. very. shoujo. cliche. plot.

and the reason why i said that it's "not really cliche" is because this manga is not focused on the dramatic side of the relationship. rather, it's your typical shoujo but presented in a comedic way. it's about the ups and downs of a relationship that does not dwell on drama. probably there is, but instead of feeling the angst, you will just brush it off with a laugh which is why i really like this manga smile

As someone else said, from the cover I was also hoping the heroine would have some backbone to her. But she is just M beyond while also being a hypocrite over it. She gets mad he is mean to her when she is all shallow to keep her so-called friends? I felt really bad for San-chan, the one decent character.
I suppose I like Kyouya, even if he is mean. All because I feel like she deserves it for being all so stupid with no real character development. Please, get some. Stop obsessing over what being a couple should be like and stop being so horribly shallow, Erika. And all those unnecessary things she does. Sigh.

Either way, it's not that bad. It's just another generic shoujo. If you like the cliché ones, you will like this. At the very least, the art is good. And San-chan and Takeru are good. ... ... ... They should meet and hook up and then it should center on them and then it wouldn't be so bad anymore. Nvm, not happening.

I assure you to keep reading till the recent chapter. I know, at first you'll get annoyed with main girl behaviour or maybe with the guy too. The girl, well, she's just thick-headed, optimist, and lively (a bit stupid but it's okay right being not perfect), but she isn't a weak girl. Yeah, she does cry but not a lot, even in a positive way. I mean, she's reflected of what she does and she cried but then she'll improve/fix her behavior (not much, though).
About the guy, kyouya, he's a tsundere. You'll find cute and manly at the same time.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
he's an ex-playboy, so it's natural for him to be a jerk. But he changed a lot after dating Erika. Basically, Erika is his saviour. There's a saying that a playboy will make a good husband, right?
