good but not satisfying

Okay, I know that a lot of people are looking forward to this manga but I have to warn you that it is not what it seems. Firstly, it is not one of those I can consider shoujo, more like josei (which it is rightly classified)-- which kind of disappointed me really. I finished reading all the mangas and... over all, it deals with the development of momoe as a chef. The romance between her and Oda did not start until vol 9. The story stretches very very very long until you just can't wait but to think... when will Oda start looking her way?!! And when they did start having that understanding, its not that romantic at all. I even start to wonder if the mangaka is male... sigh. Well, long manga. If you're into josei, it can satisfy you. Its just that... i'm a shoujo fan, is all. And I hunted the raws since it reminded me of Itazura na Kiss...

Great

had been a while since I read a proper shoujo manga, sensible, deep into the chars and their emotions, meaningful relations and realistic feelings. The plot is really simple, a girl in love with a passion for food that matures along the series (in all meanings), Momoe is an incredible char, so real, sweet and caring yet weak and strong (maybe strong in her weakness) since she gradually accepts herself as she is, struggling over big and small thing like a normal girl and maturing. The other chars are nice but t Oda is dull and a bit annoying, at least till the later eps, Takahashi on the other hand is great and felt real. The only real complaint would be that it's too positive, one way or another almost all mini-stories end well, I don't dislike happy endings but it felt a bit forced, well it's also a bit slow as they say, but for me that was not a minus, I actually enjoyed it taking it times and doing things proper for once... What fun would it be if Momoe and Oda from acne was done in a few volumes as said above?, it would turn this into the "satisfied fantasies of a spoiled brat", not something I'd like to read.

A Good Read.

It was a really enjoyable read, though I agree with the other comments mentioning the somewhat rushed ending. The plot was great and all together the characters were likeable and entertaining. If you're looking for a manga that fits the genres then this is a must read.

The only problem I had was the lack of main character romance. I wish that the relationship between Oda and Momoe had developed quicker. Though I loved Momoe's constant and unwavering love.

It was a free flowing read. It did get rather rushed towards the end but I enjoyed the description of dishes and the authors honest desire to sweep the reader into a world of good food.

It's definitely worth a read, it's funny and different plot. Main characters are likeable though I found the ending a bit rushed? There's not much passion between Oda and Momoe... Even though it's a long series, I never once got so bored that I skipped ahead or thinking about giving up.

Absolutely Amazing

Despite all the challenges and heartbreak Momoe deals with in the manga she always stayed true to her rock-solid personality. She never changed and always snapped back to her cheerful self after some self-reflection.
I really do wish that Momoe could have had some love interests or serious dates in the manga, besides for Oda. I just got a little frustrated of focusing too much on Kanako's love life when I was just stressing out about when Momoe's finally gonna get some. Lol.
I wanted to see more of the designer dude and his grandfather that Momoe was staying with in the middle of the manga. I was kind of confused about why they were just suddenly introduced and then cut out of the manga.
The characters all became like a family where towards the end it became obvious that business and love don't have to be separate in the restaurant business. We learn that cooking brings people together and Momoe expresses this in her entire being. I am so happy to have come across this manga.
I really related to Kanako (for personal reasons), and I'm surprised that the author could even conceive to make such a realistic character with such deep psychological turmoil. Sure the story moved along kind of slow, but the pace was completely worth it when it came to the character development.
This story is so memorable, it was so heart-warming. I hope to read it again someday and see if maybe I can still relate to Kanako and her changing perspectives on love.

Too much cooking

Well, I really like mangas that take a realistic view on relationships and don't jump to conclusion right away but there was something lacking. Sometimes there were no progression in the relationships for very long chapters, only complicated names of dishes and stuff. And then, when they change theme into feelings, there is suddenly whole chapter only about this. The peace was just weird.

What's more, there was really too much drama.

I get the drama in Kenji-Kaneko relationship, since they both had to be broken to pull off this reason for a break up. I mean, it looked like an ideal one, I couldn't imagine how Kenij could fall out of love with her and be with Momoe and when she slept with Kaoru I really thought maybe mangaka will let them be together, yet it still didn't feel right. Actually, the whole plot with Kaoru, since the attempted suicide, was just bad. Before his character was very nicely made but afterwards it was terrible. She saved him once and suddenly, there was nothing about him being sad. They were such a good friends but then they didn't spoke once since he hired her. Come on, mangaka made him talk only when it was convinient for her relationship development with Kenji. And they even gave hints of him being in love with her without realising, just to don't say a word about it.

There were many useless side-plots that were just boring and hard to read, just to squeeze everything in last chapters, without even properly finishing the series.
Frankly, if you want to read how a girl succeeds in a man-oriented job, being cheerful and sweet, yet not having all the boys fall for her, this manga is for you. Also, if you like cooking, I guess you will like it too. I don't, so I was counting more for some nice romance but that's just not this. Maybe it's really the cooking theme, cause another similar manga about theather has hit it off right away with me and I loved the slow romance there. With this one, I was pushing myself to read it

cause I was curious about the Kenji-Kaneko split.

What a great manga. I was shocked to come across this. I love food manga that's actually about the food and not stupid battles or harems, and yet I'd never heard of this. I was captivated from beginning to end. It's wasn't just the food but the way the characters loved it and lived for bringing it to other people, and how all of this changed as they grew in the manga. It was just lovely. The heroine was a good one too, clearly drawn and understandable as she journeys through her character's arc. I wish this hadn't ended. Thank you to everyone who scanlated it because evidently no one was interested in bringing this over to the US for English speakers to read, and we would have completely missed it.

I watched the drama...love the main character!

I'll keep this short. Whoever wrote the plot and dialogues for this manga is intelligent and wonderful.

The main girl is nothing like the other characters I've seen. She has this hidden maturity and funny perspectives about life that only comes with age. I love how amusing she can be. Hilarious!

Korean drama based this: "My Name is Kim Sam-Soon"

I am really impressed! It been a long time that I read a manga with such realistic characters and plot! Most refreshing thing about this manga is that the main female role isn't a drama queen at all smile I love it and highly recommend to those who like to have "goal achievement" for main course and "soft romance" for dessert! \o/ and I don't understand people who says art is not very good, I like it from the start smile
Anyway this was the first story that I ever read from this mangaka but I can't wait to read Makimura-sensei's other works now!
